  1. Can't Wait!! http://www.fangraphs.com/not/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/betancourt_escobar_2013-03-15.gif
  2. Man that Kyle Lohse signing looks really good now!
  3. We need to focus on the positive here I agree. 1. The Lineup. We have zero position battles and that is a good thing. The OF has speed and power and a gold glove CF who may be on the brink of breaking out. The IF has a potential stud at SS and the C position looks set for 7+ years. Solid vets at 1B, 2B & 3B. 2. The Rotation. Yo is gold. Estrada may be a late bloomer who is cheap and could match what Marcum did in his first 4 months in Milwaukee. Lohse could be if he just pitches sub 4 ERA for 2 of the 3 seasons. (BTW it's crazy to think Greinke got 3 more years and $114 more million when Lohse was arguably better the past two seasons.) 3. Young pitching. Fiers, Peralta, Hellweg, Thornburg are not being counted on heavily in a season where we could get to 85-90 wins. They can all be interchanged in one spot (#5)depending on who is performing. There are a lot of positives here guys. Sure there are things to hate but we aren't the 2002, 2003 or 2004 Brewers here where a 50 or 60 win team is likely. We have a chance at the playoffs. Let's enjoy it!
  4. I will pray for the average between his 3.11 ERA of the last two years and his career ERA of 4.45. That would give him a 3.78 ERA. Heck I will even take his 5 year ERA with StL of 3.90 and a 1.27 WHIP. Those numbers right there would make him worth the $33 million if he can replicate that for 3 years. Lest we forget Zack Greinke's ERA and WHIP in his 1 1/2 seasons with us were 3.67 & 1.20 and we were offering him $20/m per season.
  5. I think I would rather have had Dempster at 2 years $27m than Lohse at 3 years $33m.
  6. The anger over this signing is causing rapid fire responses so I will repeat myself from an earlier post because I think it warrants real discussion...if you were willing to sign Lohse, fine. But why make this signing less than a week before Opening Day?? He still got $11/per apparently which isn't such a great deal to not have made this contract work 3 weeks ago. When will he be ready??
  7. So what are we looking at now: 1. Gallardo 2. Lohse 3. Estrada 4. Narveson 5. Peralta or Fiers?
  8. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lohseky01.shtml Most similar through age 28, 29, 30...Jeff Suppan. Unreal. 3 years $33 million...Sometimes it is so hard to root for this team.
  9. What also is infuriating is the fact that now we have signed a guy to a "multi-year contract" who isn't going to be ready for Opening Day apparently. If we were going to do this, why not do it three weeks ago so he would a part of the rotation from Opening Day? I really hope we all eat our words after winning the Division in October and Lohse goes 15-7 with a 3.5 ERA.
  10. Wonderful...He was supposedly looking for 3 years $45 million per a report this weekend. Unreal. As someone said above, please tell me it is April 1.
  11. He has an interesting swing. Even on his HR today it looked like his backside was flying out of the batter's box, like he was falling backwards. I wonder how it will translate to the regular season and MLB pitching during it. But wow...this kid looks good.
  12. Not a fan. Look very Minor League-ish to me. Love the Barrelman patch though. That would look sweet on the M with Barley uniform. I agree with you PEM. Way too many uniforms. The real problem though is the Ball and Glove vs. M with Barley debate. I understand the economics of having all this merchandise but I think it is time to simply choose one and move on.
  13. Absolutely true. I find myself rooting the same way and I have been 100% for a Braun suspension if he did use PEDs. The way MLB is handling this though is like a stalker ex-girlfriend.
  14. Agreed. I like Davis and think he could be a great bench bat this year, but isn't that just limiting what he could be? If he could be packaged for a Porcello or Bud Norris type, I might be more inclined to go that route because I don't think Gomez and/or Aoki is going to fail in CF or RF.
  15. Honestly, I would rather the Brewers be a consistent 85 win team with fluctutations to 90ish or 80ish depending on the season. In the current economic climate of baseball, I just want to have a team that is over .500 consistently and has a chance to make the playoffs every few years rather than focusing on winning one World Series. Additionally, while it may be the forced model to consistently win 85 games in baseball economics, I don't want the Brewers to be the Rays either and have to sell pieces consistently as soon as they become expensive. While we may all have personal feelings towards people on the Brewers, I love the consistency of having a "team." Since 2007 we knew who will play LF Braun, 2B Weeks, RF now 1B Hart, and 2010 C Lucroy and moving forward hopefully RF Aoki, CF Gomez & SS Segura. That makes it fun to root for in my opinion and will gladly trade a World Series championship for feeling like those players are part of the Milwaukee community. Look at the Dodgers. Sure it would be nice to have their money to have kept CC, Fielder and Greinke, but do the Dodgers really have a "team?"
  16. Yes please! Anyone other than Gonzalez starting is preferable but this would be a winner on multiple levels: 1. He fills in for Hart while he is out. 2. He is the backup 1B and 5th OF when Hart returns. 3. Is a power pinch hitting bat off the bench in 2013. 4. Is a potential long term solution at 1B if Hart leaves after 2013. I would definitely take a long look at him and would be willing to part with a minor league pitcher for him. Always has hit in the minors and maybe just needs a chance in the majors. Sounds like Gamel.
  17. I strongly disagree with this move despite how good of a closer he is. While this is probably the best move for this season, an Ace, which he could be, is worth far more than a closer. Look at the Brewers success in picking up closers (Kolb, Turnbow, Torres, Axford, Hoffman). Yeah they may have only been good for a season but they are more easily found than an Ace. I think the Reds at least have to see if he can start. On a side note, how upset would we be having paid Broxton $7m/year to be our setup man? Yuck.
  18. Agree with everything here. If we insist on starting Gonzalez, the bottom of the lineup should be 5th Lucroy, 6th Gomez, 7th Segura, 8th Gonzalez or Green, if he ever plays.
  19. Giving immunity players to get info on a known cheater and a guy who the MLB wants to prove is a user is not putting on serious face. Why are they just going after those two? They were not the only two guys on the list. You go after these two because ARod is already public enemy number 1 and he has already said he used. He is very safe to go after. You go after Braun because you think he beat your system and it saves face to find out he did. They are putting on a serious face that they want people to think the MLB is pursuing a much cleaner game Couldn't have said it better myself. While I agree that cleaning up the game is important, granting immunity to known users to get others doesn't clean the game. If so, what precludes Braun or A-Rod from staying quiet about others potentially? I'm guessing immunity doesn't apply to the "big fish."
  20. Gonzalez as our 1B is beyond a joke. Much like the rotation and Rogers v. Narveson, give the younger, more talented player in Taylor Green the 1B spot and sink or swim with him until plays his way out of the job or until Corey comes back.
  21. I absolutely think this a wait and see team given the unproven nature of the rotation however there are reasons to be optimistic. 1. Core offensive players are signed for the next few seasons (Braun, Lucroy, Weeks, Aoki, Gomez, Segura) providing some cost certainties. 2. The offense should be close to as good in 2013 as none of those core players had an extreme career year. You could argue Gomez but his ouput was offset by Weeks' overall poor season. 3. The bullpen simply should not be anywhere near as bad as they were in 2012. The rotation is the only real question and there are even reasons to be optimistic there. 1. Yo obviously. 2. Estrada has had two solid seasons in a row suggesting he may not be a fluke. His ERA and WHIP in 2012 were similar to Greinke's. 3. Peralta profiles to be an above average pitcher. If he gives us anything close to a 4 ERA & a 1.25-1.35 WHIP in his rookie season and with this offense, he will likely win 10-13 games. Same with Fiers. Even after his atrocious finish he still had a 3.74 ERA & 1.26 WHIP in 2012. If he just hits those numbers again he will be an excellent 3 or 4. As great as the 2011 team was, the top four pitchers ERAs were all between 3.52-3.83 and WHIPs between 1.16-1.32. These numbers could very easily be replicated by Yo & Estrada. Fiers and Peralta are the keys to 2013.
  22. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/20/in-focusing-on-braun-major-league-baseball-is-abandoning-the-principles-of-its-drug-testingenforcement-program/ Getting embarassing for MLB if they are willing to let the "small fish" go to get the "big fish." While we are obviously biased towards Braun because it makes our team better, I really hope this ends up with egg all over MLB's face. What an absolute joke.
  23. Combining this with Hunter Morris not hitting this spring, I don't think it is a reach to think Hart may be extended this year yet. If Morris continues his struggles in Triple AAA this year, what's the plan for 1B in 2014? Gamel will be almost two years removed from playing. Hart while always an injury liability, may be the Brewers best option. LaRoche got a 2 year $22 million contract this offseason. Given Hart's want to stay in Milwaukee and relatively soft 1B market, a 2 year $20 million extension may keep Hart in Milwaukee. Although Ramirez' deal (2 years, $30 million, $10m in 2013, $16m in 2014, $14m or $4m buyout in 2015) may make it difficult to afford Hart.
  24. I tend to agree with this. In 2011, when we had a Gallardo, Greinke, Marcum top 3 and our #4 Randy Wolf was arguably the best of the top 4, you could carry a Narveson as your #5. While I think that Estrada could fill the Marcum role at #3, I don't see Peralta being Greinke (16-6, 3.83 ERA, 1.2 WHIP) or Fiers being Wolf (13-10, 3.69 ERA, 1.32 WHIP) in 2013. I'm not saying Rogers would be either but I think Narveson's 2011 is the absolute peak of what we can hope for from Narveson in 2013 (11-8, 4.45 ERA, 1.39 WHIP). Realistically, I think we can expect Rogers and Narveson to post similar #s in 2013 and I like the idea of giving Rogers the chance to succeed before we relegate him to the bullpen and start Narveson.
