  1. Does this mean the Nationals are out on Greinke? 1. Stras 2. Gio 3. Zimmermann 4. Haren 5. Detwiler
  2. Let's say we did sign Hamilton...Is that the best #3-#4 in baseball? Not looking at the contracts or anything else, just purely based on on-field performance. Is Cabrera-Fielder better? Gonzalez-Kemp? I'd have a hard time taking anyone over Braun-Hamilton.
  3. I really don't have much interest in trading Corey Hart unless someone really blew me away. I too feel he is VASTLY underappreciated for his contributions to this team.
  4. A simplified version of this is actually what I would like to see the Brewers go to on a full time basis. Small ball and glove on the chest with the number on a full white jersey.
  5. Second this...Nothing is more frustrating to me than watching a guy with amazing natural abilities not being able to harness it. Whether it is fair or not, I always felt like Parra never had the mental fortitude or mental toughness to be as good as he should be.
  6. Braves and Nationals are really starting to look like the class of the NL.
  7. Wow...I drastically undervalued Walden. That is a crazy haul for Walden who is probably their 7th inning guy (Kimbrel, Venters, O'Flaherty)!! That is a GREAT bullpen.
  8. Ditto. I really have no interest in dealing what may actually be our best pitching prospect for a 7th or 8th inning guy. I would struggle trading him even if Walden were to be our closer.
  9. I second that. I think Hughes has a load of potential and is a mid-3 ERA guy in the NL. I will say that it is hard for me to trade one of the Cs as we now have depth at the position I don't remember us ever having. That being said, he could be a solid #2 that could extend the rotation and a backup C who plays 6 times a month is probably expendable. As HTR stated though, he is a FA after the season and is likely looking at $10-ish million/year extension. Would you be willing to go there? I think I would.
  10. I seem to remember the Brewers asking about him when they traded Hardy for Gomez. As I recall, the Twins said he was off limits. My memory of this could be way off though.
  11. Another team out of the Hamilton sweepstakes.
  12. If we want a grizzled veteran to put in the rotation instead of rolling with Fiers, Rogers, Peralta, etc...why didn't we just re-sign Marcum? I don't understand why we would go long term with Dempster when we had a younger, better if less durable option in house.
  13. Would you trade Gamel for him? I think I would. My thinking here is the Angels may want to put Gamel at 3B given their lack of a 3B and it also helps Gamel is LH as a majority of that lineup is RH (Pujols, Trout, Bourjos, Trumbo, Kendrick, Ianetta). Gamel for Walden...I'd do it.
  14. Usually love MLB The Show. Played every year since 2008 or 2009. Typically will get to July in season and play every game in doing so, thereby wasting 100s of hours of my life. I never tweak the settings and it usually produces exceptionally life-like games. There are 2-1 games. 10-8 games. 5-4 games. Generally speaking there is a lot of realism in the types of hits too. Not just singles and HRs like a lot of baseball games were. However, MLB 12 felt like a huge step back for me. I all of a sudden couldn't hit and when I did square up anything it was a little nubber to the pitcher. Even when it says meatball with perfect contact, I was hitting soft grounders. Like I said, I have played this series now for 4-5 years and this was the first disappointing year. I would wait for The Show 13.
  15. How does Cincinnati afford these contracts? Votto's $200 million deal and Phillips $60 million deal and now $7 million/year to Broxton. Don't really like any of these deals to be honest.
  16. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/31067/predictions-where-hamilton-ends-up 3 of the 11 questioned had the Brewers landing Hamilton with only the Rangers outpacing them with 4 of the 11. Ugh...I am starting to get on board with the idea of Hamilton in Milwaukee. Maybe I am just bored with the Brewers relative inactivity and lack of rumors because it really doesn't make a whole heckuva of a lot of sense given the need for bullpen and presence of Gomez and Aoki.
  17. I actually Melvin thinks the Hamilton move makes sense from the standpoint of a long term contract. Let's say Gomez does exactly the same thing in 2013 as he did in 2012, 20 HR 40 SB & a .260/.300 slash with the same gold glove D. Do you give Gomez a 5 year $50 million contract he would likely get in the open market or do you give Josh Hamilton 5 years $100 million? I think that is the view Melvin is taking and why we are mentioned in the Hamilton discussion. I will be curious to see what BJ Upton gets in free agency this offseason because I think you will be looking at a similar deal for Gomez if he repeats his 2012 season.
  18. Awful...Absolutely awful.
  19. I would love to have Logan Morrison in Milwaukee; I just don't know where you play him.
  20. I wonder if this is really a promotion done because the Brewers are genuinely looking into a re-branding of the team. I hope so. As for a re-branding, I don't want something new but rather I would love to see the Brewers incorporate the two iconic logos from the past into one uniform. COLORS: I would really like the Brewers to go more with a modification of the blue/yellow tone they have gone with. I would take the navy of the present uniform and the yellow from the ball and glove era and combine those. Think University of Michigan color scheme. HAT: I for one would want the Brewers/Braves block M on the hat with the ball and glove logo as the alternate hat. UNIFORM: I like this concept for the away jersey, but with the navy and yellow color scheme. http://chancemichaels.tripod.com/brewers_images/classic_road.jpg As for the home jersey, I would like to see simple. No cursive or that type. Maybe just the block M or ball and glove on the chest similar to the Yankees or Cubs. This is exciting to me as I just don't have love for the current uniform and would welcome a change as long as it keeps the uniform simple and doesn't go all Marlins on us.
  21. Braun and Posey should be the only two in the discussion in my opinion. It's those two and a HUGE gap after them. While all 5 had great seasons, Braun's & Posey's numbers simply dwarf the numbers put up by any of the others.
  22. I'm with you on everything except something new. While I don't have love or hate for the M and barley logo, if we aren't switching to the ball and glove or the original block M, I am all for staying with the M and barley. My feeling on the current logo is it just feels too corporate and tied to Miller so I would be comfortable with a return to the past or no change at all. I am still dying for the Brewers to introduce the late 1980s away gray throwback. I would buy one of those so fast.
  23. http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/8577812/ervin-santana-traded-kansas-city-royals-los-angeles-angels Kansas City! Brandon Sisk seems like a decent player without digging too deep. More than K/IP and a 1.25 WHIP in two Triple AAA seasons. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=sisk--001bra Let's go get Haren!
  24. Averaging 30 HRs over the next 10 years I don't think will be a problem for Braun. Let's look at the next 5 year window at the end of which Braun will have just concluded his age 33 season (Braun was born in November) and just coming out of his prime. I think he will be around the 40 HR mark for the next 5 seasons, an additional 200 HR putting him at 402. Additionally, I fully expect Braun to continue at the 190 hit per season pace for those 5 years as well, an additional 950 hits putting him at 2,039. I don't think 98 HR over the final 5 years of that 10 year window to get to 500 HR will be an issue unless Braun falls off significantly or injuries limit him. 961 hits may be more of a chore but if he is at 500 HR and say 2,800 hits, it will be seriously difficult to keep him out of the HOF. Put another way, Chipper Jones has 468 HRs and 2,726 hits. Do you think he won't be in the HOF?
  25. If getting an SP with experience is the path that Melvin wants to go down this offseason, I could get on board with the Brewers going after Santana or Haren provided the Angels: 1. Pay $10+ million of Haren's $15.5 million 2. Pay $10+ million of Santana's $13 million 3. Trade is the equivalent of the K-Rod trade where the Brewers give up very little in terms of a prospect. Haren will be 33 in September of 2013. Santana will be 30 in December of 2012. I honestly have always wanted to see Haren in Milwaukee so I would definitely be on board with Haren. I could see him posting a Greinke-esque ERA (mid 3s) & WHIP (1.15-1.25) minus the Ks. In fact as I am writing this I am becoming excited about the possibility of him being a #2 to Gallardo. Santana is a different story. That would be more of a flyer than anything else. His HR totals are scary though for Miller Park.
