  1. https://www.fanragsports.com/inside-baseball-no-end-in-sight-to-baseballs-messy-winter/ Further down in the article it states: One team source suggested they offered $110 million over five years, and was surprised to be told “thanks, but no thanks.” There is your floor.
  2. Agreed. Thinking about it further, I would love to do Santana for Puk. Brewers sign a FA SP (Darvish/Arrieta/Cobb) and you still have Woodruff, Burnes, Puk coming...that is nice!
  3. Interesting. I had kind of been thinking this same thing. AJ Puk was chosen one pick after Corey Ray and I remember I was really upset about passing on him. I would do a Santana-Puk + deal. I may even consider Santana for Puk straight up.
  4. I think this is a fair statement. I would go a step further and say the Brewers and Twins probably have the best offer on the table currently. I am guessing until the Dodgers are officially out, the Cubs will keep their offer lower and only up it if it becomes apparent the Dodgers are out and the Cubs are now his desired destination.
  5. Arrieta just seems like the kind of guy that will stick it to the Cubs every time he plays them. The issue will of course be what he will pitch like in the other 30 games per season he pitches in. I'll be honest...I am kind of, sort of, hoping the Brewers roll the dice and sign him. While its risky, the side benefit likely means the Brewers will keep Woodruff and Burnes. Scary signing for sure but would keep the farm together.
  6. 10-12 weeks is roughly half the season Now when you are starting at a week before spring training starts. He'll likely be back by the end of April/beginning of May. On the shelf roughly the first month of the season. I stand corrected. I read it as missing 10-12 weeks of the regular season. My mistake.
  7. 10-12 weeks is roughly half the season
  8. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/22349464/minnesota-twins-pitcher-ervin-santana-10-12-weeks-finger-surgery Gotta figure the Twins will give an extra year to Darvish given this news.
  9. Not with Cain/Yelich (career .300 AVG/.342 OBP /career .290 AVG/.369 OBP) in the 1/2 hole in Milwaukee. Kipnis (career .268 AVG/.340 OBP) is in the #5 or #6 spot in Milwaukee.
  10. As I have stated in numerous threads, Pina at the plate is my biggest fear in terms of a regression candidate. Signing Lucroy to a 2 year $18-$20 million deal would be a priority of mine if I were DS. Do the Santana-Salazar deal as well and you open with: 1. Cain 2. Yelich 3. Braun 4. Shaw 5. Lucroy 6. Thames 7. Villar/Sogard 8. Arcia Anderson-Salazar-Davies-Chacin-Woodruff/Suter/Guerra and determine where you're at with Nelson and at the Deadline if more SP is needed.
  11. Looking strictly from a lineup perspective, with the presumption of a Santana-Salazar straight-up deal (which I believe to be fair), I like the lineup of: 1. Cain 2. Yelich 3. Braun 4. Shaw 5. Walker or Kipnis 6. Thames/Aguilar Without re-signing Walker or trading for Kipnis, the lineup looks a little shallow with a 6-7-8 of Pina-Sogard/Villar-Arcia.
  12. Brewer's currently looking at adding a serviceable catcher for whatever that's worth. This was a quote from HH19's post last night. http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/free-agents/catcher/ This is a list of the remaining free agent catchers. Assuming HH does have a source, this definitely leads me to believe the reunion of Jonathan Lucroy and the Brewers is more likely than it was 24 hours ago. Every other player on that list is pretty easily argued to not be an upgrade on Pina, Vogt and Bandy. I truly wonder if the Brewers are contemplating this. I believe this would be an excellent move but I know I am in the minority.
  13. It seems to line up too perfectly to not work. The only hold up I see is the Brewers valuing Archer more than Salazar and exhausting all efforts to acquire Archer in a Santana package before giving up and moving on to a Salazar and Kipnis deal. I'll be honest...the Kipnis portion of the deal is the most surprising. Depending on the money involved coming back to Milwaukee, I would have to wonder if Walker isn't the better option.
  14. HH19 has gotten a lot of notoriety recently especially from Brew Crew Ball and Adam McCalvy. I imagine the potential/possibility of sharing information would eventually reach back to his source/Brewers FO and cause for some consternation. While I don't doubt he/she has a source, I will reserve judgment as to the authenticity of what he/she has been fed given the immense amount of scrutiny it has received recently. Regardless if it is authentic or not, it sure has been fun to read about the possibilities of things. Its unfortunate there are so many people on this board and others that look at such things with a cynical eye instead of enjoying the presence of rumors. In an amazingly slow offseason, even if HH19 has been making stuff up, it sure has been entertaining and that's what baseball is supposed to be. The attacks on the authenticity is pretty weak stuff IMHO. Furthermore, the cynicism and attacking of longtime posters on this board has become more and more prevalent. I came here a long time ago to post and share information with other passionate Brewer fans. Not to read others being mocked by perceived poor trade proposals or attacked because of a lack of understanding of new age stats. We all love the Brewers and are passionate about them winning the World Series. Please remember that.
  15. It's important to establish that HH is sharing news from his source at 9 - not that news is going down AT 9. So if his news is "the Brewers are confident they will get Darvish" that doesn't mean anything is imminent, he's just sharing thoughts from the inside. No actual signings/trades will occur at 9. Understood. I was thinking more along the lines of the Darvish camp letting the winning bidder know today and HH19's source will be able to share whether the Brewers won and what the next steps will be if they won and if they lost.
  16. Well it is morning time in Japan. It would make sense that the Yu news would be occurring at 9pm Central time...or noon Japan time.
  17. I think this has always been the most likely scenario of "TOR" the Brewers would add. While I don't love the idea of 5 years $125 million, I do love the work ethic he brings. Intensity like that tends to rub off on younger more impressionable people.
  18. This was posted elsewhere but it may portend some good candidates in Salazar and Odorizzi. If the Brewers were to trade Santana for Salazar and Trent Grisham and a lottery pick for Odorizzi, I think the overall depth of that rotation (Salazar-Anderson-Davies-Odorizzi-Woodruff-Chacin-Suter-Guerra with Nelson coming), while not as sexy as having Darvish, would be a playoff rotation. https://www.mlb.com/news/3-starters-who-could-turn-into-aces-in-2018/c-265432782
  19. http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/rays/2018/02/03/surprise-surprise-odorizzi-is-still-with-rays-for-now/ Odorizzi would be solid if the Brewers got one of the top end free agent pitchers. If he is all they add then it is a disappointment Agreed. A rotation of Arietta, Anderson, Davies, Odorizzi & Chacin/Woodruff would be nice. If Nelson returns and is 2017 Nelson, that rotation becomes quite deep. A trade for Odorizzi likely requires an OF based on the article...Trent Grisham and a lottery pick for Odorizzi?
  20. http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/rays/2018/02/03/surprise-surprise-odorizzi-is-still-with-rays-for-now/
  21. Mike Ferrin on MLB on XM just stated the Rays are looking to cut payroll however moving Archer isn't going to be how they do it. According to people he knows in the organization, Archer will not be moved and the Rays are focused on moving Odorizzi. Food for thought...
  22. At this point, I agree. I love Santana but with Braun-Cain-Yelich he is going to be underutilized. Furthermore, Phillips is the ideal 4th OF with the starters as I would feel very comfortable playing Phillips in the event of an injury. I hate losing Burnes but you have to give some to get some. Peralta and a lottery pick really should complete the deal. I understand if Milwaukee or TB walks away if it isn't enough but I don't think TB gets much more than that. Something I have been thinking about...HH19 said the trade is being held up by one player and he said that Burnes has to be in the deal. What if the Rays would take Santana and Hiura for Archer and none of Woodruff, Burnes, Ortiz, Peralta are in the deal? Would we all prefer moving Hiura instead of Burnes? Tough choice for sure...
  23. If you told me that Santana, Burnes, Peralta and Phillips would all be perennial All Stars in Tampa Bay, but Archer would be a part of one World Series winning team in Milwaukee but we would be rebuilding in 2022, I would gladly make the deal!
  24. I need some laughter...what is the link to the Cub board?
  25. I love Brett Phillips as much as anyone. However, if a 4th/5th OF (at least for the foreseeable future with Braun-Cain-Yelich-Santana) is preventing the Brewers from acquiring Archer, with so many other fallback options available as FAs (Gomez, CarGo, etc...), then the FO has ENORMOUS value on Phillips.
