  1. Billy Butler anyone?
  2. WOW! What an overpay by St. Louis. I hate that move if I am a Cardinals fan. Wainwright-Masterson-Lackey in Games 1-3...is that better than Lohse-Gallardo-Garza? Now take away Craig from the lineup and the Cards have: Adams, Wong, Peralta, Carpenter, Holiday, Bourjos, Taveras, Pierzynski.... I like our chances versus the Cards a ton better today than yesterday.
  3. Brewers Deadline 2014 - Awfully Quiet Around These Parts A move for a 1B (Morneau/Napoli), backup IF (Prado) or RP (Ziegler, Reed) has to made doesn't it? The Brewers are in this thing and some small tweaks are definitely needed. I hope they don't stand pat, but I also hope they don't go crazy and deal a ton for Price.
  4. Wow...Seriously? Has Prado fallen that far or do you value Jungmann that much?
  5. How about a Prado and Ziegler package deal? Would the D'Backs be interested in some combination of Schafer, Jungmann, Haniger, or Roache if we take on Prado's entire contract?
  6. Would've liked to have seen him in Milwaukee at the beginning of the season but not at this point in time.
  7. For no reason other than intuition, I foresee Lucroy playing more and more at 1B and Maldonado moving into the lineup more as the everyday catcher. Like I said, I have nothing to go on other than feeling, but this seems to be a route the Brewers could go to get a different bat into the lineup. Perhaps this outside the box thinking could result in the Brewers targeting a catcher at the deadline such as Yasmani Grandal.
  8. Count me in on Nori being our 4th OF!
  9. Um...he is pitching right now
  10. Exactly and this is why the Brewers should not be entertaining any ideas of trading Nelson for another pitcher. The issues with this team are an overworked bullpen, as evidenced by Will Smith's recent struggles, and offensive consistency, as evidenced by the three game losing streak. Starting pitching has not been an issue for the Crew this season and dealing 6 years of Nelson for 2 months of Lester would be stupid.
  11. After taking a few days to think about it, I am out on Price. Whether or not the Brewers make the playoffs is completely independent of acquiring the ace that Price is. The rotation as of today is better depth wise than most in the National League and should match up with anyone, save the ace of each of the Dodgers, Cardinals, Reds and Giants. After the ace though, I will take my chances with each of their #2s (Greinke, Lynn, Latos & Hudson) versus our #2 be it Peralta or Garza or Gallardo. Trading Nelson plus whatever other Brewer top end prospect to get Price will unlikely have a dramatic effect on our ability to reach the postseason if our offense continues to flounder. The only caveat remains if one of the aforementioned teams acquires Price to be their #2 and then the Brewers would be in real trouble making the postseason let alone winning a series. Having said that, any realistic package the Brewers put together for Price could easily be topped by the Dodgers (Pederson & Seager) or the Cardinals (Taveras & Miller) so I won't be too upset when/if they acquire them.
  12. Just what we need to break a 3 game losing streak: Price-Wainwright-Lester. We need the bats to wake up!
  13. Yes. Him or Napoli. I will roll will Lohse-Garza-Peralta-Gallardo-Nelson if we can acquire a competent 1B, even if the Cardinals pull off a deal for Price or Lester. I like our chances with that rotation and an addition of Morneau or Napoli to our everyday lineup.
  14. How about whoever replaces Logan Schafer? Put simply...he is an awful MLB player. Please find a new 4th OF Doug.
  15. I hope it's the Cardinals and they have to part with Taveras and Miller to get him. Would love to see Lester then re-sign with the Red Sox after 2014 as well...after the Cardinals finish in 2nd place behind us. Hey, I can dream can't I??
  16. Pass...not because it is unreasonable, but because it doesn't allow us to field a competitive team in the short or long term. Great we have Price for 1.5 years (assuming no extension) and have a great rotation of Price-Lohse-Garza-Peralta-Yo, but we now have an everyday lineup that includes Rickie at 2B, Reynolds/Overbay at 1B and Segura at SS. Short term, I don't see a championship team riding Rickie as an everyday player at 2B and having that 1B combo. Now longer term...Brewers just lost a cheap, productive piece at 2B at the MLB level. These are not the type of players they can afford to trade if they have designs on re-signing Price or re-signing Gomez for that matter when the time comes.
  17. Honestly, anything I can do to hold onto Nelson is the way I would proceed with this deal especially if the Brewers are without a commitment from Price long term. If there were a way to focus on Thornburg, Smith, Coulter, Arcia, Taylor etc...and keep Nelson I would be more interested in this deal. A rotation of Price-Lohse-Peralta-Garza-Nelson is what I would love to see in 2015. I would give Price the contract extension as well and try to scrape together a lineup that would include a ton of cheap pieces in positions not currently manned by Braun or Lucroy i.e. Gennett, Segura, Davis types. Gomez, Ramirez, Gallardo, Weeks would all be squeezed out as part of a Price extension and Schafer, Plouffe and Nelson-types would be the replacements.
  18. Seconded... Brewers have to think long term here. Nelson, Peralta & Garza look like a good start to a future rotation when Lohse and Yo are gone. What happens after 2015 when Price, Lohse and Yo are gone? Peralta and a 32 year old Garza is good but who fills out the rotation. If you could guarantee me Price, Peralta and Garza as the 1-2-3 for the next 3 years, I am in for dealing Nelson. Without that guarantee though, I am not sure this trade makes a ton of sense for the Brewers. I just don't like the idea of moving Nelson unless Price is re-signed to a long term deal immediately.
  19. After the weekend he had hitting at Miller Park, he would make sense for the Brewers to target for 1B. Have to imagine that if the Mets wanted Thornburg for Ike, they would want Nelson for Duda. This obviously is a non-starter but is there any other package that we could put together to entice the Mets into dealing us Duda?
  20. A pen of consisting of the following is ok by me to head to October with: CL: K-Rod SU: Henderson, Jeffress LHP: Smith, Duke LRP: Gorzelanny, Estrada Add in Thornburg if he can make it back and I think we have a winning pen. As we have discussed, the issue for the staff is whether or not you need an Ace in October like Hamels or Lee. I for one don't necessarily want to pay the price to get one of those guys because it means giving up Nelson which is not in the Brewers long term interests in my opinion. I would feel comfortable with standing pat with the offense today. However, an injury to any one of the Braun, Gomez, Lucroy or Ramirez would likely sink the season given the lack of a quality backup at each position save C. So I think a pre-emptive move to acquire a Plouffe for a backup IF spot or a 4th OF would be smart.
  21. He is owed 2 years $60 million with a team option of $23 million or a $10 million buyout...the absolute only way I take him is if the Phillies pay $60-$65 million of the $70 million he is owed over the next 2 seasons. Howard on a 2 year $7 million obligation would be ok provided we don't have to trade anything other than a never will be prospect...
  22. Oh man...I see a Howard/Reynolds platoon coming. It makes too much "sense" not to happen.
  23. I posted this in the Morales to the Mariners thread but anyone think that the Brewers have any interest in seeing if they can acquire Corey Hart now that the Mariners have Morrison, Morales, Smoak and Montero for 1B & DH? I would definitely make the phone call if I am Doug Melvin as I can't imagine the Brewers would have to give up much of anything to re-acquire Corey.
  24. If I am Jack Z, now that I have Morales back in Seattle, I am calling the Brewers and saying do you want Corey Hart back? I have to imagine that all parties involved wouldn't mind a re-do given Corey's lost season in Seattle, the Brewers mediocre play at 1B and the Mariners crunch at 1B/DH now with Morrison & Morales, Smoak being optioned to Triple AAA & Montero also waiting in the wings at Triple AAA. I would imagine Jack Z wouldn't mind giving Corey an opportunity to come home given his newly found depth at the 1B/DH position. Perhaps Corey Hart is the Jerry Hairston of 2014.
  25. I don't feel good about any Game 1 pitching matchup against most of the potential opponents in the postseason (Dodgers, Giants, Cardinals, Reds). Lohse vs Kershaw, Bumgarner, Wainwright, Cueto likely means a 0-1 deficit after Game 1. I would feel much more excited about facing the Braves, Nationals or Pirates as I think we match up ok against Santana, Strasburg and Liriano.
