  1. Let's assume we get the 2012 Garza and Gallardo and the 2013 Lohse, Peralta & Estrada. The numbers are: Garza: 3.91 ERA, 1.17 WHIP Gallardo: 3.66 ERA, 1.33 WHIP Lohse: 3.35 ERA, 1.16 WHIP Peralta: 4.37 ERA, 1.41 WHIP Estrada: 3.87 ERA, 1.07 WHIP That would be a rotation average of 3.83 ERA, 1.22 WHIP. Would you take that right now? And if so, where does that land us in terms of wins? If it doesn't take us to a playoff level, where could we realistically see any improvement from the players listed above and would that improvement be offset by any regression? I guess I look at this list and see a pretty accurate reflection of where our rotation will stand in 2014. I could see some regression from Lohse and Yo, however I see it being offset by Garza and Peralta. If the Brewers have this production from the staff, I see them as a solid 85 win team. Now if Scooter and K. Davis hit in their first tastes as everyday big leaguers, and the rest of the Brewers O remains what they have been, I see a chance for a high 80 win team.
  2. I would do this trade, but substitute Hunter Morris for one of Nelson or Jungmann. I have significant concerns about Ramirez being able to stay healthy given his age. Additionally, this allows the Brewers to get significantly younger, cheaper and possibly better, as well as potentially finding long term solutions at both 3B and 1B. An IF of Butler, Gennett, Segura & Moustakas would be pretty sweet if you ask me. While it might make us worse in 2014 at 3B, I think overall both teams would be better in 2014 with this deal.
  3. @Yoshii: I have always liked the idea of Colvin. I think he would profile perfectly as a LH backup to Mark Reynolds at 1B, as well as a 5th OF in a pinch. Our bench would have a little more flexibility at that point in time versus keeping Overbay, who should only play 1B, or Francisco, who should never see the field period. The only problem with Colvin is...man are we becoming former Cub filled. Ramirez/Garza/Colvin
  4. I still don't understand what Seattle did with Logan Morrison and Corey Hart with Justin Smoak still on the roster. Additionally, I won't be surprised when Kendrys Morales doesn't find an offer he likes because of the draft pick attached to him and has to come back to Seattle on a discounted contract. If that were to happen, the Mariners would have Hart/Morrison/Smoak/Morales to all split 1B, RF & DH and none of those guys should see RF. I agree with Briggs that it wouldn't be shocking if Smoak or Morrison is in Milwaukee for the right deal, provided Morales re-signing back in Seattle. How is Smoak's D at 1B?
  5. Here is the article: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mil/phil-rogers-feel-good-vibes-prevail-in-milwaukee?ymd=20140127&content_id=67163932&vkey=news_mil I wonder if the Brewers would entertain trading Ramirez and move Reynolds to 3B if they could get a quality 1B in return? I for one think this is not the best idea, but worth mentioning since the article discusses the idea of a Ramirez trade.
  6. I definitely understand you not wanting to trade for Ike specifically, but I just don't understand the thought of having another player who hasn't played 1B, be our regular 1B. Haven't we learned our lesson with Francisco, Gonzalez and Betancourt?
  7. Agreed, but I think that thought permeated Brewer fans' opinions about Rickie during that time. That was my point.
  8. I think the real reason why people are pushing for Davis, myself included, is that he represents a potential at 1B that Morris, Reynolds, Overbay & Francisco do not. I liken Ike to the 2007-2008 Rickie Weeks. Those two years combined, Weeks had a slash of .234/.357/.414 with terrible defense and was beginning to look like a bust, much like Ike is now. Whatever your feelings are now on Rickie, I think we all can agree that from 2009-2011 (until the ankle injury) that Rickie was finally developing into the 2B we thought he would become with a .269/.357/.472 slash while providing significant pop at a non-traditional power position. Will Ike have this same type of mid to late 20s revival? I don't know and am not willing to deal Thornburg or Nelson to find out. However, if we could deal a lesser pitching prospect like Hellweg, Pena, Blazek or combination of lesser pitching prospects, I would be willing to take that chance given our lack of promising options for 2014. I think the real interesting proposal would be Hunter Morris for Ike Davis straight up. I would do it.
  9. While I disagree with you, I understand your opinion. This deal would be so beneficial for the Brewers on multiple levels, provided Garza remains injury free. While on paper the Brewers in 2014 may look like at most an 85 win team, they could conceivably play a little above their head and reach close to 90 wins. I don't think they have a shot at this without Garza. Now they could also play below average and win 77 games. Garza's contract, provided health and pitching to his form, is a very trade able contract and could bring back multiple prospects, see the Cubs-Rangers deal last season. I just see this as a win-win deal.
  10. Thought I would start a 2014 Random MLB News & Discussion thread: http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/10345565/boston-red-sox-ceo-larry-lucchino-says-new-york-yankees-big-bucks-signings-help-rekindle-rivalry Is anyone else put off by the Red Sox constant hand-wringing and whining over the Yankees and their spending? Don't the Red Sox do the same on some level? I have honestly gotten to dislike the Red Sox more than the Yankees because of this issue precisely.
  11. Absolutely agree with this 100%. If you can lock a medically cleared Garza in at $13 million for the next four year, you do it. I understand budgets but this isn't something that should be deterring the Brewers or Garza for that matter from moving forward especially if you are talking about a contract breakdown of something like $10, $10, $16, $16 or $8, $14, $15, $16. I can't imagine either side walking away from something over things like this.
  12. Well played Sveum! Well played! ...and now I am sad because it's true!
  13. This has me confused as well. Are Heyman, Rosenthal, Haudricourt, McCalvy, etc... all not following up or is there truly nothing to be reported? If it is the latter, that seems even more odd given how sure everyone was yesterday that the deal was done. Ken Rosenthal tweeted that Garza had taken the physical the Brewers were prepared to hold the press conference yesterday. So what could be the holdup?
  14. So let's say the Garza deal doesn't go through and Jimenez becomes the target as Foamboy states and the Brewers lose another 1st round pick. Whew...that would certainly epitomize the franchise.
  15. Aw yes...the Personal Grudge. I know it very well. Like mine with Jim Gantner. Beloved by every other Brewer fan but hated by WTP.
  16. Butler will likely require a deal of Thornburg and/or Nelson. I think he is a little rich for my blood especially if the Garza deal falls through. I'd rather take my chances on a lottery ticket like Ike for a Hellweg than deal the SP prospects likely necessary for Butler.
  17. @Turbo: Molitor had 2,200 hits with a .303/.367/.444 slash over 15 seasons with the Brewers and is the 2nd Brewer in the HOF. I think he genuinely deserves it whether or not he left on bad terms.
  18. One source said the sides simply needed more time to hash out the final terms of the agreement. This to me sounds like a backloaded deal with no-trade clause language or something to that effect.
  19. This would be super disappointing if this isn't finalized. Garza, at this price point, would be a real nice acquisition for the Brewers. If they lose him and you believe some of the chatter on Twitter that it isn't related to the physical, you have to believe that something that isn't on the up and up is afoot.
  20. Yo is signed this year with a $13 million team option for next season. I am fully expecting to see some of the Yo of old this season though, so I anticipate him being here in 2015. Lohse is signed through 2015 as well. I really hope Melvin holds Thornburg, Smith and Nelson. Thornburg and Smith fit very nicely with Kintzler in the pen in 2014. Hellweg can be dealt as far as I am concerned and if the Mets want him for Ike, that is a done deal for me.
  21. I am so glad I was so off in my early season prediction of 5 years $75 million for Garza. That additional year and $23 million would have been a significantly worse deal for the Brewers. As I posted in the Transaction Forum, I think this will free up some young pitching to make a trade for Ike or another 1B now.
  22. Now that Garza is a Brewer, the rotation seems a bit crowded. 1. Gallardo 2. Lohse 3. Garza 4. Peralta 5. Estrada, Thornburg, Nelson, Smith, Hellweg Given this, does anyone believe that we now have an expendable young pitcher to make a deal to get a 1B that isn't Mark Reynolds, Juan Francisco or Lyle Overbay? I have to believe that the Brewers FO is now a little bit more willing to have serious discussions with the Mets regarding an Ike Davis trade or potentially include a young pitcher in a deal for a different 1B. While I still do not want to deal Thornburg or Nelson, if the Mets were willing to take Hellweg for Ike, I would do that today. Thoughts?
  23. Looks like discussions still but having numbers out there makes it sound close to me.
  24. 4 years $52 million
  25. If Yo returns to pre-2013 form, Lohse remains what he has been for the past three seasons and Garza puts up Cub Garza numbers, the Brewers have 3 legitimate #2s in their rotation. Things could get interesting...
