  1. I know this may be a pipe dream, but I would really love for the Brewers Triple AAA team to be in the state. I love that Appleton has the T-Rats and the Single A team and the close proximity to Milwaukee for fans to watch the prospects. I would truly love to see Green Bay, Madison, Sheboygan...someplace else in the state pick up the Brewers Triple AAA team. It would be really interesting to see the Brewers try to do with a local team, similar to what the Cardinals just did with Memphis.
  2. Better yet, maybe they will trade for him. I think a Norichika Aoki and Aramis Ramirez for Domonic Brown deal looks fair.
  3. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9995925/philadelphia-phillies-re-sign-veteran-catcher-carlos-ruiz Yuck. First Marlon Byrd, now this. So let me go partially around the horn here: In 2014, with the ages they will be for a majority of the season: C Ruiz (35) 1B Howard (34) 2B Utley (35) SS Rollins (35) RF Byrd (36) I have no clue what Ruben Amaro is doing.
  4. My god...I listened to MLB Network Radio this weekend and I have an even greater hatred for Cardinals fans. The amount of whining by Cardinals fans calling in regarding Molina not winning MVP was barely tolerable already. However, having to hear the whining about Wainwright not winning Cy Young was downright unbearable, especially when you compare his numbers to Kershaw.
  5. If they would substitute Ramirez for Nelson, for a package of: Ramirez, Henderson, Davis, Hellweg, Taylor, Kintzler For Fielder, Porcello + $40 million I think both teams might do it.
  6. It was the idea of trading Braun and essentially blowing up the current roster that made me ask the question, not the quality of the article.
  7. http://mlbreports.com/2013/11/09/braun-2/ This got me thinking...It certainly appears the Brewers are not going to be competitive in the next few seasons given the state of our roster versus that of the Cardinals, Pirates and Reds. Additionally, given the state of our MiLB rosters versus those three and the Cubs, the future isn't exactly looking real bright either. Does it make sense for us to blow it all up and start over again? Barring something unforeseen, the Brewers should be a 78 - 84 win team for the next few seasons with the current roster, but a playoff appearance in the next few seasons definitely seems unlikely. If this is the case, should we not be making a play to be competitive in 2016 or 2017 versus fighting to remain .500 in 2014 and 2015? Would it be better for the team in the long term to make tough choices today, like trading Ryan Braun, Carlos Gomez, etc... in order to have a young crop of high end talent HOPEFULLY rise at the same time in 2016/17? Curious to what everyone's feelings are on this...
  8. Gallardo. I don't even think they are considering anyone else to be honest. Like Paul said, he is more of a franchise face plus I think the organization believes his 2013 season to be an anomaly.
  9. How did Matt Carpenter get 6 2nd place votes? I got it, he led the league in R, H & 2B. I can see the votes for him over Molina, but not over Goldschmidt. Goldschmidt led the league in HR, RBI, SLG%, OPS+ and TB. If the Diamondbacks even sniffed the 2nd wild card, Goldschmidt would have won MVP easily.
  10. This trade actually might make some sense for them. Although, I would be more apt to throw them Aramis than K. Davis so they could move Cabrera back to 1B. Weeks, Ramirez & Henderson for Prince & $40 million. The Tigers pay $31m to Weeks and Ramirez for 2014 + buyout for Ramirez and an additional $40m to the Brewers for Fielder for a total of $71m. The Brewers take Prince and $128m over the next 7 years. Tigers would save $56m in the process and, arguably, become stronger in 2014. This trade will never happen but it sure is fun to speculate.
  11. One guy who has always intrigued me is Logan Morrison of the Marlins. I would love for the Brewers to look into his availability given he is becoming expensive for the way the Marlins operate, hits left handed and is entering what should be his prime. I wouldn't give up much for him but I think he would be a solid addition for the 1B competition.
  12. http://www.freep.com/article/20131113/SPORTS02/311130112/detroit-tigers-prince-fielder-trade-rumors Oh man...I bet Attanasio would be all over this if true. Prince is still owed 7 years $168 million ($24 AAV). If the Tigers were to kick in say $40 - 50 million, I imagine he would do whatever it would take to get Prince.
  13. Weeks/+ $$/ + for Porcello would where I would start with Detroit. Follow that up with a Aoki + for Jeremy Hellickson. Take a flier on Phil Hughes. Whether that is realistic, I have no clue but I would feel pretty excited with a rotation of: 1. Gallardo 2. Lohse 3. Hellickson 4. Peralta 5. Porcello Hughes, Hellweg, Nelson, Jungmann, Thornburg, etc...waiting in the wings in the event of injury. That would be an ideal off season for me.
  14. Deal...and I would hang up the phone before they had a chance to change their mind.
  15. I like your idea of moving Braun to 1B. However, I seriously doubt if he is moved to 1B for 2014 and in 2015 the Brewers will shift him back to the OF. If Braun is moved to 1B, he will be a 1B for the remainder of his career, save for some spot starts in the OF.
  16. http://nypost.com/2013/11/07/how-an-improved-mets-lineup-could-look-in-2014/ Aoki for Ike Davis...Would you do it? At first glance, I am not sure Aoki would bring a larger return than Davis. Aoki is unlikely to be here past 2014 so I am tempted. Not sold on the idea though.
  17. You're not simply analyzing the prospective deal if that's how you're framing the question. You're tying in objectively unrelated issues -- not to say that I don't understand why you or other folks might approach looking at this not completely in a vaccuum. But imo you can't say a deal does or doesn't make the club better if you use elements that aren't part of the deal to evaluate the deal. It would be similar to saying that you wouldn't want to trade four quarters to receive five quarters because you also need more dimes & nickels. The reason I would pull the trigger on this deal is that (as stated) I feel SP > Position Player. The rest of the roster construction has nothing to do with what I believe is objective analysis of a potential deal like this. I digress. Looking at a Segura-Miller deal in terms of value, I will make this deal 100% of the time if I am the Brewers as I agree that SP > Position Player. However, when analyzing the deal in terms of outcomes, I see the following: 1. A major league SS is not currently in the organization to replace Segura, creating the need for a corresponding move. Not impossible but required given a Segura-Miller trade. 2. StL's lineup currently is better than the Brewers and a Segura-Miller deal widens the gap. 3. StL trades a potential ace in Miller but really is not hurt in the process given the depth of quality young SP they already possess in Wacha, Kelly, Martinez, etc... 4. StL's pitching staff remains better than Milwaukee's. I will not argue with you that Segura-Miller isn't a win for the Brewers because I believe it is. If the Brewers were offered this, I would hope they would not turn it down. It strengthens the Brewers long-term. However, this one move will also strengthen a division rival and at a greater rate than what the Brewers would be strengthened in the short and long-term. The Brewers will still be behind the Cardinals and will still require additional significant moves to catch the Cardinals.
  18. While I am all for dealing hitting for pitching, I just don't know if a trade like this makes the Brewers better, worse or about the same. While the lineup would still include Braun, Lucroy and Gomez, there are no guarantees that Gennett and Davis are what they showed in 2013. I don't know. A Segura-Miller deal feels like a push to me given the questions we would have at 1B, 2B, SS and RF. I do know that this trade would help the Cardinals more than it would help the Brewers given their depth at SP and our lack of depth at SS. We fill one hole by opening another and they close one of their holes but aren't opening another.
  19. Hart should be the choice assuming he passes a physical. If he doesn't pass the physical or is overwhelmed by a contract, I think they should pursue Morse or a LH bat like Morneau or Loney to attempt to balance the lineup. Like others have stated, I just don't believe Morris is ready quite yet to take over 1B on a full time or even part time basis. Let's let the kid develop and not hinder his progression.
  20. Adam Dunn? This has been the most likely scenario in my mind except I don't think the White Sox have the need at 2B. However, bad contract for bad contract in a change of scenery sometimes works well plus it fills the 1B hole for 2014. Not saying that is a good idea but it is an idea.
  21. Realistically, the only thing that could get David Price is Ryan Braun and the only way I am having that conversation is if Price is extended for 5-7 years before that trade is made.
  22. @Logan: Agreed but .500 with was nowhere in the realm of possibility in my mind with your 2-3-4-5 missing the following amount of games: 2. Weeks 60 3. Braun 100 4. Ramirez 100 5. Hart 162
  23. With all the turmoil that the Brewers went through this year, a 74-88 season has to be considered the best possible record the Brewers could have had. If you would've told me at the beginning of the year that Braun would be hurt then suspended for 65 games, plus Weeks & Hart suffering season ending injuries and Ramirez being hurt a good portion of the season, I'd have pegged the Brewers for a record somewhere around 63-99. Being 54-55 from June through September, as well as 68-66 for all months not named May, I would have to say the Brewers outperformed expectations given the circumstances.
  24. Love to have him Sveum back in some capacity, although Narron has been pretty decent as a hitting coach.
  25. So Matt Adams is blocked at 1B.....
