  1. This entire paragraph is bizzarro gaslighting. Sentences 1 and 4 are very true and is a credit to the front office ENTIRELY BECAUSE of their "bites at the apple" philosophy. The ONLY reason it is even possible to ever even complain that they don't "GOFERIT"--which is a complaint EVERY YEAR by some people is that they don't "go all in" or whatever. Do that ONCE and fail and you can wait another 8 years to complain they don't go for it because they'll be stuck with a bad overpaid roster winning 75 games a year with a poor farm system and little to no hope to ever even make the playoffs....all to increase their chances of winning a WS ONE year by like 1.0305%. Yes, it is FAR more probable to win a WS by getting lucky in the playoffs any single year of many playoff years when you go to the playoffs nearly EVERY year than it is to mortgage the future and health of your franchise for ONE year to barely increase your chances that ONE year. Gaslighting indeed.
  2. What a comfortable game to watch.
  3. Okee Dokee then...Any chance UWs boosters can contribute to Iowa's "Hire Fran McCaffrey for life" fund? Good Lord. I haven't seen that many open 3s since the NBA 3 pt contest, and almost as many makes. It isn't even shooting above their skill level if they are going to get 2 seconds to shoot and NOBODY even closes out on them let alone actually guard them. Unfortunately kind of a throw away game to be honest. Like a badly scheduled buy game.
  4. Nothing changes for TV watchers...it's the same channel with a different label (FanDuel). Streamers can either use a stand alone FanDuel app or watch as an add-on subscription on Amazon Prime. Streaming prices are yet to be determined.
  5. This happened on Wednesday. I see it was lightly discussed in the Winter Meetings thread...but signing a guy to the MLB roster deserves it's own thread.
  6. The Brewers signed LHP Grant Wolfram the other day. Not sure if there was a corresponding move but he is listed on the 40-man roster.
  7. And honestly, the Brewers maybe even better at finding "dime-a-dozen" scrap-heap relievers in March and turning them into elite shut down relievers in July and August than they are at finding starters...so the Devin for Cortes swap makes sense in that light....except for likely losing the comp pick.
  8. Cortes' results haven't been dime-a-dozen, at least when factoring in '21 and '22. Cortes' expected results and arm/stuff/age/price are a dime-a-dozen and are much closer to his '23 results than his '21 and '22 results. And his arm/stuff is WAY more Joe Ross than Frankie Montas.
  9. I would have preferred to get younger prospects with higher upside. Cortes and Durbin are fine. Just like Civale, Wade Miley, Colin Rea, Joe Ross, Oliver Dunn, Andruw Monasterio, and Owen Miller are fine. Devin Williams is in the conversation for the best reliever in baseball. I would have preferred to keep him and get a comp pick or get some more younger guys with higher upside a la Freddy Peralta from 8 years ago or so. It seems like Cortes and Durbin are dime-a-dozen type guys that are available for near nothing every March 25th.... Also, rostering Turang, Frelick, Perkins and Durbin might be tough....that's a lot of ABs with no HRs. All that said, I trust this front office so am in actuality much more wait-and-see but my initial response is a big "meh".
  10. I feel like my Brewer fandom and Badger bball fandom are mirror images of each other...and not just on the calendar (which is not coincidental). Over achieving regular seasons and a big fart in the post season.
  11. Especially since a budget for 2023 might be a couple of years late....
  12. It's amazing how many "favorite Badger Bball teams" I've had in the last 30 years.
  13. It's most definitely possible. Although I think the ceiling would have been higher for that group. And as those types of things go, the floor would be a lot lower. Storr and Hepburn were clearly distracted in the middle of the B1G season last year--likely due to NIL/negotiations/tampering/whatever. That wouldn't have been different this year at least for guys like CE and Storr (if they were having a lot of success). This team just seems super steady and heady, obviously beginning with the 3 wings-- but also Crowl and McGee and Gilmore. It just seems like an extremely mature, cohesive unit. Who knows though.
  14. Webster was a pure PG...UW has had lots of studs there. Tucker played his Frosh year with a Sr Kirk Penney, but Alando actually played power forward that year. '14 had Dekker, Brust and Gasser--who are probably better but not nearly as individually versatile as the current 3.
  15. I'm still adjusting to be being an offensive oriented wing dominant team. For 27 years or so UW has been successful as a PG and big man dominant and defensive oriented team(s). Tonje/Blackwell/Klesmit are easily the best/most versatile triumvirate of wings that I can remember (since '89 or so...). Tucker was better than any one of them, but he didn't have two other guys to help him out (no matter how much I like Clayton Hansen)
  16. That's the least satisfying 15 point W over a top 10 team I've ever experienced as a fan. UW played GREAT...like, they should have won...by like maybe 5 points.
  17. Travesty of a basketball game...I mean free throw contest...
  18. I would have been very happy if suddenly Bo went down to the bench once UW was up EIGHTEEN POINTS. It's like Longo is our offensive coordinator....
  19. LOL. This is weird. So not UW BBall. And yet....
  20. I think you are like at least 5 years late... i.e. Reds haven't opened for awhile now.
  21. I would just go with seniority for starting. If UW needs size up front, bring Blackwell off the bench and keep the twin towers in the starting lineup. If they can get away with a smaller starting 5 bring Winters off the bench. Blackwell is an excellent "spark of energy" to bring off the bench just like McGee has been (and you often hear about).
  22. Appalachian State is terrible. UW was once again a bit slow out of the blocks...then realized how bad App St. actually is and dominated every facet of the game the last 12 minutes of the half without even trying too hard. The slightest pressure caused turnovers and the slightest aggressiveness toward the hoop led to easy lay-ups. If this one gets back to single digits it will be disappointing. I don't see a lot of anything one can glean from this game though...except maybe it's time to start Kamari?
  23. Interesting game vs. MoSt. Much to the chagrin of highlight reel Badger fans, Kamari McGee and Carter Gilmore are better basketball players than Daniel Freitag and Xavier Amos. Gilmore even played over Tonje down the stretch in the 2nd half....although Tonje played well enough in the 1st half. I assume Hunter is still out?/recovering? Max Klesmit (MKUltra?) will end his career among the more under-rated/under-appreciated Badgers of all-time. He is a winner.
  24. I turned the game on when it was 21-5. Thus I'm just going to pretend UW won 80-40, cuz that's all I saw. Montana St. and App St. are a tier or two above HC. It's going to be a roller coaster this year.
