  1. We are also the best at scoring runs by heading home at possibly imprudent times...and the best at getting thrown out at home. The former will be ignored or called "lucky", the latter will be endlessly complained about every single time it happens.
  2. Overall I am very satisfied with the state of the program and the job that Gard has done. My measure of success is that going into every game on the schedule I want to have a reasonable chance at a victory. That doesn't mean they will be favorites in every game (although it does mean MOST games). Gard has had teams of that caliber almost every year--2018 excepted. If you have teams of that quality, postseason success WILL eventually come. However, if the talent level of Wisconsin and Minnesota HS basketball is the same in the next 10 years as it was in the last 10 years, I honestly think that there is another tier higher UW basketball could achieve--or at least the next decade could get back to the level it was from 2003-2017 when UW made the Sweet 16 nine out of 15 years...and the down years they were an 8 or 9 seed. UW got their fair share of Wisconsin recruits this last decade, but with a more appealing style of play I am hoping UW could nab a few more of the blue chippers that our great state and the slightly lesser state to our West produces. Bo was able to regularly turn two and three star recruits into All-Americans; Gard just hasn't quite gotten to that type of development with those types of recruits (although Ethan Happ was a Gard guy). Gard HAS definitely shown that he and the staff knows what they are doing in the portal though, which could make up for not getting the likes of JP Tokoto, Tyler Herro, Tyrese Halliburton, Joey/Sam Houser, Dawson Garcia, Seth Trimble, Jalen Johnson, Kon Knueppel, Amari Allen, Davion Hannah, etc.
  3. The problem wasn't necessarily taking A shot with 12 seconds left, it was taking THAT shot. Although only a dunk or uncontested layup would be an excusable shot in that situation. Crowl was wide open for .5 seconds, Unfortunately it takes Crowl 1.5 seconds to get a shot off, and in that time the defender got in his grill. Then it became a difficult shot, but the die was cast... This was a long discussion for a possession that was less than ideal but not nearly worthy of all this hand wringing. It was far far far from a game losing decision/possession even if it could have been handled better.
  4. I don't see how he gets away unless he is really unhappy. There aren't many guys left! Sounds like Winter is coming back...then you have some rotation pieces in Janicki and Amos but nothing they have to PAY for...then some young guys like Freitag who can hopefully develop. Gotta add a stud and another solid veteran in the portal. Who knows? Hayden Jones might be a contributor.
  5. Great season! Good game. BYU deserved to win. UW wasn't great, particularly in the first half, but they weren't terrible either. Took care of the ball and shot okay. Tonje did his thing. Fun finish, but it would have been a stolen game had we won. If you HAVE to lose in the 2nd round, this was a good way to go. I'm happy to cheer for BYU and the B1G the rest of the tournament.
  6. Again, they can make money when they are out of the country if they are not being paid (directly) by an American for specific services...i.e. employment. Teams who played tournaments outside of the country or did one of those summer travel tours were able to get their foreign players paid/NIL/whatever-you-wanna-call-it. Even if a team doesn't schedule one of those things, players are free to travel on their own. It's not that hard to get around the red tape.
  7. There's been enough interesting games overall, but the lack of games coming down to the wire in the last 3 minutes has been disappointing. Hopefully the drama ratches up this weekend.
  8. I am suggesting that there are ways to get around the rules, he committed to IU because of money, and the coaching change gave him an excuse to re-open the bidding war while knowing what the bottom of the market is (his deal with IU). Also, I am a know-nothing internet speculator whose thoughts on the subject have no basis in any reality other than reading between the tea leaves.
  9. "Offered" doesn't mean what it used to. The Blue Jays "offered" Vladimir Guerrero more than a half a billion dollars this past offseason and VGu said "no thanks." I think something similar may have happened with Zrno albeit with fewer zeroes.
  10. Here is my entry: POS | Player | Team | Value C | Cal Raleigh | Mariners | 100 1B | Pete Alonso | Mets | 100 2B | Mookie Betts | Dodgers | 50 SS | Corey Seagar | Rangers | 100 3B | Vlad Guerrero jr. | Blue Jays | 100 LF | Christian Yelich | Brewers | 25 CF | Aaron Judge | Yankees | 200 RF | Jackson Chourio | Brewers | 75 DH | Shohei Ohtani | Dodgers | 200 Total: $950
  11. They would get to play Auburn in Lexington though, which is like an hour's drive away. Pretty crappy for Auburn to have to face a severely underseeded team an hour from their HUGE, rejuvenated fanbase. Both Auburn and Louisville could be pissed.
  12. Great post @Cool Hand Lucroy. I concur with everything. At first I was annoyed by the Thursday game with the travel, but that is like 98% influenced by the fact that UW shot 22% today and because the Milwaukee/Friday placing would have been SO ideal. Other than the shooting, I thought they looked pretty good and moved well. It was an up and down, intense game and the defense was on point for the most part, so it didn't LOOK like they were tired-- it just became the common excuse for shooting that bad. It's not the committee's fault the times and locations could have worked out so nicely for UW. They won't be tired on Thursday. If they had to play Tuesday, it might be an issue, but these kids will be fine by Thursday. Montana isn't very good and looks like a good matchup. The seeding and matchups are great--A LOT better than oh, say a Michigan, Maryland, VCU, or Louisville/Auburn got. And as long as they win on Thursday I like having the game right off the bat during the opening window for games. As far as the committee having "contingency brackets" depending upon the result of the B1G Championship game--both Matt Norlander and Gary Parrish (CBS guys) said later on their podcast that they think that was a lie. Trying to reconcile seeding with BOTH resume metrics like WAB/Quadrant W-L records AND predictive metrics (overall efficiancy margins(kenpom and Torvik/T-rank)) is an impossible task--particularly this year. Is Gonzaga as good as the computer's say? Or as good as their record says? Same with North Carolina, who can ONLY be justified by predictive metrics. Glad I'm not a West Virginia fan.
  13. Yep, but the made up for it with the call on McGee vs Richardson 10 seconds later where they got their feet tangled up and MSU had already thrown the ball away.
  14. I think Tony Bennett will coach somewhere eventually. If there is a governing body for college sports that instills some enforceable rules to create some order in the current NIL landscape it will be somewhere like MInnesota--a struggling high major program that has potential...or maybe even someplace that doesn't appear to have potential a la Washington State. If the chaos continues, I could see him going DIII or NAIA or something like that. It won't be this coming year though, and probably not the year after that either.
  15. Good stuff. On the other end, barring injury it's hard to see anybody doing a lot WORSE than those FG projections. Contreras could disappoint and Yelich/Mitchell could be hurt...otherwise it's basically excellent defense and okay pitching with a good bullpen--and the depth in the pitching staff leads me to believe finding UPSIDE there is more likely than downside, since if a guy stinks we just replace him with a different talented-ish arm.
  16. It got better😮😃...(the watchability, not the reffing)
  17. That would be crazy genius, assuming the guy has lots of European connections to pull in top tier teens from that continent. The NBA phenomenon of guys like Luka/Jokic/Wagner bros/Domantas Sabonis/Josh Giddey[Aussie, but still] is amazing. They play the game differently and extremely effectively. St. Mary's has been getting it done this way for decades, perhaps never as effectively as this year with Marciulionis and Murauskas anchoring a top 25 team.
  18. Best knock knock joke ever. Thanks guys.
  19. What an eclectic group of seniors! Transfers, walk-ons, preferred walk ons, all americans, all-conference players, development stories, Wisconsinites, Minnesotans, foreign players, graduate students, little guys, big guys, medium guys, shooters....scorers....more shooters.
  20. Minimum salary is not guaranteed...only receive it pro-rated while on the MLB roster.
  21. Looking forward to today's game. I'll say that things go opposite to script. MSU makes shots in the half court, but turn it over to give UW more opportunities. UW rebounds and takes care of the ball, but only shoot okay. If the refs call it fair I'll say UW pulls it out, but if it's a wrestling match or Blackwell/Tonje get in foul trouble MSU wins by 10.
  22. Baseball has a ton of weird, intense movements. Our bodies weren't really made to throw a ball 90 mph or swing a stick around the axis of our spine. It leads to a lot of soft tissue injuries in the core/back/arm. While this isn't one of those, it's just the way it is.
