  1. There are very, very few reasons to name a PTBNL before one has to. Unless you want to change his position, get him under your coaching staff right away or put him on the MLB roster it would just be dumb. Usually a PTBNL isn't pre-determined, it comes from a list of players that the team gets to choose from, and any team would want to take as long as possible in case something drastically bad happened to one of the players on the list.
  2. Anybody else see the 5 (or so) year old kid in the stands throwing up the "T" behind Morgan when he was getting his eye flushed out? That was great.
  3. http://brewersbeat.mlblog...ewers-reacquire-f-lopez/Nice! He's at least a legitimate MLB hitter, and versatile. Completely forgot about him after the Rays sent him down earlier this year.
  4. It looks to me like Soto was actually backing up and Prince gave his glove a good forearm shiver while sliding at the plate. Next time I think Prince should drop the shoulder and jab step right at him then back off and avoid the tag. I think he would have been safe if he tried it right there.
  5. How many WS appearances have your favorite GMs made?
  6. I'm not sure how Hall could be a stupid idea. He is a super utility player who is a year away from hitting 17 homers. I guess from his time here and the fact that he's moved around so much this year I suppose that there may be some on-going attitude issues. Some familiar faces might be good for him--or perhaps it would be bad for him, hard to know right now.
  7. The problem is that moving Betancourt to 2nd kind of mitigates his [relative] defensive strength of a decent throwing arm. He doesn't have a cannon, but I can't remember him throwing a ball away from SS, either. Meanwhile, his lack of range will be exposed nearly as much from 2b as from SS.
  8. Any interest in Jeff Baker or Blake DeWitt in a pre-game trade?
  9. Fixed. Thanks. Yunisell would make a good SS. Let Yuni bat and Counsell play defense. Perhaps in the World Series this could be worked out. There is no way that Roenicke or Melvin can tell me with a straight face that Counsell is a better hitter right now than Yo. The rest of the rotation is pretty close to CC as a hitter as well.
  10. If McGehee can get back to his 09-10 form for the next 4-6 weeks that would pretty much replace the lost production from Rickie. Plus there is no way that Rickie's replacement could perform worse than McGehee has, so it is actually still conceivable that the offense won't fall off too much. I know that nobody around here actually thinks he can do that, but his past success at least makes it feasible. Granted, if Rickie were healthy AND McGehee gets back to form the Crew would have likely had the best 1-6 in the league.
  11. This has been my experience as well. The first times I sprained my ankles badly back in high school it took 4-6 weeks to get back to normal. Each subsequent sprain since then would seem to heal quite a bit faster despite having the same amount of pain for the first 6-12 hours after the injury. My ankles kind of look permanently swollen now just from all the scar tissue built up around the joints but they seem to work just fine, even if the joint is a bit "looser," and more susceptible to being turned.
  12. Rickie is a tough [expletive deleted], and if this is "only" a soft tissue injury in the ankle I would be very surprised if it ended his season. At the very least, he can PH in the playoffs and DH for us in the WS http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. EDIT: removed "SOB" --1992
  13. It's hard to say that the guy who leads the league in K/9 has trouble finishing guys off.
  14. At this point I think I'd rather watch Zack nibble than serve meatballs. Although as has been stated, he's been pretty good for the last month+ outside of that crazy NY start.
  15. {chirp} {chirp} Sorry. Can't help you.
  16. Strawman. Demonstrate the correlation between Duncan and pitching performance. You know, addressing the argument, and using evidence. Chris Carpenter, Jeff Suppan, Braden Looper, Joel Pineiro, Kyle Lohse... Meanwhile I'm hard pressed to think of any Cardinal pitcher who performed poorer as a Cardinal than as a member of different team.
  17. My top 10: 1. Stosh Wawrzasek 2. Scooter Gennett 3. Maverick Lasker 4. Zelous Wheeler 5. Michael Fiers 6. Kyle Heckathorn 7. Jesus Sanchez 8. Brock Kjeldegaard 9. Tommy Toledo 10. Josh Prince Bottom 10: 116. Alan Williams 117. Mike Roberts 118. Jim Henderson 119. Greg Davis 120. Jim Nelson 121. Steve Peterson 122. Mark Rogers 123. Matt Miller 124. Jason Rogers 125. Ron Johnson Also, since I've never seen any of these guys actually play (Mark Rogers excepted) I just ranked them based on the coolest names. Ron Johnson bringing up the rear is PURELY coincidental, no need to send this thread off to the political board.
  18. How much did we have to give them?
  19. Jim Bowden just compared the Cards "giving up" on Rasmus to the Brewers "giving up" on Gary Sheffield!
  20. I'm probably overreacting to the overreaction to that call but I don't think it was the worst call I've ever seen. It was a terrible tag by the catcher, and even on slow motion replay it's pretty close as to whether he grazed his leg with the glove or not. Do I think he got him? Yes, but it's a lot closer than what the reaction has been. In real time I might have called him safe too since on the high speed swipe his glove didn't even deviate from it's position as it went past the runner's leg so it's hard to tell if contact was made. Unless the catcher was going to throw to first there was no need to do a swipe tag like that.
  21. Count me among those who are totally un-excited about the upcoming sports week. I understand that anticipation and speculation is a big part of sports fandom, but for some reason I have never been able to get into the minutiae of the Packers roster moves and the surrounding hoopla about the NFL. I love football on Saturdays and Sundays in the fall, but between the Super Bowl and Labor day I just don't care. I am excited about Russell Wilson though...
  22. Just because Green is currently one of the Brewers top 5 guys at AA/AAA doesn't make him a major prospect. He isn't a major prospect by any objective prospect rating measure; he is merely a "major" prospect on BF.net because the Brewers system is depleted right now and we have a glaring hole at 3B on the MLB roster. Those two facts have drastically elevated his status around here.
  23. What's up with that HOF graphic that FSN just showed? Robbie Alomar was in CWS gear and Blyleven had an Indians cap on. Is that how they went into the Hall? That would be pretty weird, especially since Blyleven has been working for the Twins for the last 15 years. I would guess that each of them could go in as either of two other teams.
