  1. All Betancourt had to do was get a glove on it. It was hit hard enough that he would've likely thrown him out. What do you know? Another 3 run homer after poor defense. This is ridiculous.
  2. I guess this may work out. Our middle relief is awfully thin and shaky right now, especially since we didn't activate Saito. Gallardo for an hour and then a delay probably wouldn't have been the best thing. The system looks to be moving pretty quick so hopefully they get started before 9.
  3. This is dumb. It looks like they could be playing for 1.5-2 hrs before it really rains. Instead we are probably looking at a 930-10 oclock start or a rainout. So probably a rainout. And it's not even raining.
  4. It wasn't a hard roll though. His bread and butter was as an innings eater, but he got into far too many pickles.
  5. So is the defense. I don't think that Gomez, Braun or Betancourt knew where that pop-up ball was going. They just saw it off the bat and sort of ran in the general direction of the ball. Gomez went backwards and Braun ran to a spot ten feet to the right of where the ball landed and Betancourt is Betancourt.
  6. Even though their best players are Sabathia, Teixeira, A-Rod, Granderson, (and Cano, but he doesn't fit the profile), there is a reason that their most beloved players are Jeter, Posada, Mo Rivera, etc. I would imagine that Cano will eventually make his way into that group.
  7. CC is going to groove one to his buddy here. I would welcome ending the grand slam drought here.
  8. Yeah, it's hyperbole to say that he isn't happy in New York, but it's also telling that he called three months in Milwaukee the best time of his career despite winning a World Championship the very next year with the Yankees; all the while drawing a gigantic paycheck. I would dismiss this as fluff if he was saying it to FSN Wisconsin and BA and Bill, since it could easily just be dismissed as him being a nice guy and telling them what they want to hear. But he said this to the YES network and to their announcers doing the game.
  9. Is Wolf really trying throw a slider up and in or is he just that far off?
  10. Wolf looks terrible here. He's not just barely missing, he's all over the place. Also, Yanks might have 6-8 steals today. 3 so far.
  11. Boston DFA's Cameron. Pick up Cam? Trade for Hardy? Can we get the band back together? Doug Davis was released as well...we could use a lefty in the pen. We missed out on adding Hall though. This should all be ridiculous, but the gap between our good players and our bench/filler guys is so great that a lot of it actually makes sense.
  12. This game is on MLB Network with YES coverage. They just showed a short interview with CC about his time in Milwaukee. He loved it here, at one point saying that pitching against us would be just as weird for him as pitching against the Indians and that even though it was only 3 months, he felt like he played here his whole career. Best time of his career by far. I hope he has some sound advice for Prince. Live within your means, invest well, and 120 million plus being happy is worth a heck of a lot more than 200 million and not being happy.
  13. This might be the most well pitched 4 runs in 4 innings for a pitcher this year. Marcum has been all over the corners. Yet another three run homer against the Crew. Wall scraper, no less--not that it wasn't hit well it's just kind of sickening to be 5 feet from an out in a bandbox with two guys on base.
  14. I'd complain about sending Hart there, but it just doesn't matter since A. Betancourt was up next with 2 outs, and 2) We are going to lose anyway.
  15. Gimme a break. They just swept the Twins and this is the 4th inning of a 7-2 game. Time to light a fire? After a 30-15 record since May 9th, going from 4.5 back to being in first place by THREE GAMES and you want to press the panic button after 3.5 innings of a poor outing??? I really don't know what to say.
  16. STL also has a large voting fanbase, and since Pujols went down I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them voted for Fielder in order to keep a Red out of the starting lineup. This brings up an interesting dilemma, however. If you were Prince, would you cede your defensive spot on the field to Votto in order to slightly increase the Brewers chances at having home field advantage in the World Series?? Since they will both get in the game anyway, should we as fans vote for Votto as well? If the NL loses the game partially because of poor fielding by Prince and the Crew go on to make the Series that would be a real kick in the nuts to lose the advantage. Hmmmm...
  17. He's from Minneapolis, I believe, so I'm guessing that he is just a Twins fan.
  18. That's a tough one. Both Gallardo and Marcum have that Game 7 Jack Morris/John Smoltz type of attitude about them that I really like in those kind of situations. You never really know though about that kind of thing, though. Greinke has the best stuff, so if he is sharp in his previous outings at the time it's hard to go against him too. Assuming that all are pitching well though, I think I'd have to go with Gallardo due to his hitting prowess http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.
  19. Barring anything ridiculous (Kotsay regularly playing in CF is as close as it comes, but I don't consider 5 games a year to be regular), I am very comfortable giving RRR credit for winning. As others have stated, the most important part of managing a baseball team is managing the players and their personalities in order to get them to play their best ball, and the best way to measure that is if the ballclub is winning. In game strategy and bullpen management both have smaller roles to play, but there are certain instances when strictly playing the percentages will have a much larger negative effect on the clubhouse than the positive effect it would have on the field.
  20. As a general rule, starting pitcher's perform worse as the game goes on, so it's no surprise that a #5 pitcher would have below average performance the third time through the order. Managers in general should have quicker hooks with mediocre/average starting pitchers, regardless of their performance in that particular game. This is probably true if the object is to win the current game and the current game only. The way rosters are constructed these days it makes the application of this pretty hard to do though over the long haul. If everybody were healthy this season for the Brewers, they would have a pretty decent roster this season for being more liberal with the pen, with lots of fairly interchangeable arms that have minor league options in order to keep guys fresh.
  21. I simultaneously cringe and smile whenever he opens his mouth. From the snippets of reality TV that I've seen, I have a similar reaction to that sort of thing, which is why I don't watch it. I love Plush, but I just can't help but think that at some point the fuse is going to reach the powderkeg and something is going to blow up.
  22. Probably, but it just shows you how much the Dolphins care about the Marlins. It was originally scheduled that way, but the first concert tour was cancelled and was when it was re-scheduled the Marlins scheduled had already been made, but lost the precedence battle.
  23. That's true, but this is also what happens when you are just a renter in the stadium you play. Drawing between 20,000-30,000 fans paying $30 apiece for tix for a three game series pales in comparison to drawing 70,000 fans paying $250-$500 apiece for a concert. Not to mention parking, concessions, etc. I don't get why they didn't just play it at one of the numerous minor league stadiums in Florida though. Or perhaps in Puerto Rico. They might even get a better gate attendance at a more intimate minor league stadium, as sad as that is.
