  1. I'd think we'll get through the 5th and maybe the 6th and then there could be a long delay.
  2. Perhaps we should be sac bunting after we get the leadoff guy on. Or stealing.
  3. The best part was Grandal pointing to first as if Arcia hadn't already made up his mind. MVP level tag by Grandal.
  4. That's great. But why? Not understanding the question I guess. He's been activated because he's no longer injured and optioned because he's an AAA pitcher. Plus if he stayed on the 10 day they would have to continue to pay him an MLB salary.
  5. Meh. I think the situation is fluid. If the current starting staff pitches like it has in the last week then obviously Corbin will remain in the pen role similar to what he was in last year. If we need another starter, perhaps he will fill that role (although I'd think that Nelson will be tried a few times first). We have a tremendous amount of versatility within our pitching staff, and that is a good thing.
  6. Chris Hook with his 7th straight dominant coaching performance. First place at this stage after playing this schedule is a kind surprise I'll be happy with one more win this weekend, but a sweep would be grand.
  7. Against the Cubs I dont know if I go to a mop up reliever unless we are up 7 or more. Go Guerra again and then maybe save Hader if needed but the Cubs can score in bunches. Knowing that Hader is there if needed makes the switch possible, but Guerra another inning wouldn't be bad.
  8. It's so much fun to watch victories playing good baseball while the opposition plays bad baseball. This is a fundamentally sound, quality baseball team a la the Giants in the early 2010s that won 3 championships.
  9. Although I didn't bring the topic up while Perez was diving for a nice defensive play and spinning around on his rump to throw a crazy hard strike to Aguilar to beat a guy by a half step with another guy on base... I haven't seen Hiura play at all, but from what I read there is it sounds like a 0% chance he makes that play--and that was a big one.
  10. Tough to blame him when it wasn't 100% that Grandal was breaking home on contact, and the ball pushed Rizzo right towards him. He was basically at the bag when Rizzo threw home, so he would've been dead to rights had he left for third at any point on that play. I haven't gone back and looked at it, but from where he was, wouldn't he have seen Grandal breaking for home right on contact? Rizzo had even less of a play at 3rd than he did at home especially at that angle. Grandal didn't break for home on contact. He froze, then saw Rizzo dive, then went for home.
  11. If we win, it matters not. But yeah, that's what I was thinking. And Gamel did fine.
  12. The strange time when the contact play NOT being on resulted in the run scoring AND saving an out. Had Grandal broken for the plate right away, Rizzo goes to first to get the out.
  13. they're sticking with their 3rd time through the order logic/math. Time for Burnes to be what he was last year. Exactly what he's needed for here. Burnes can K Baez, as he did. Gio can give up a 2 run dinger to Baez and relinquish the lead. Combination of a rested bullpen, a baserunner, 3rd time through the order, 3 straight righties and only a 1 run lead make the move to Burnes a pretty good move.
  14. I like the move. 3 righties coming up. Especially after the 3 pitch K.
  15. Some may say that Greinke's ERA was very fair since he was kind of a weirdo who was honest-ish with the media. The capricious baseball Gods can be confusing to the laymen.
  16. Well, welcome to the real world Dallas, where almost every job has become a "what have you done for me today" judgement on your value not your history. Workers are another commodity to be managed by companies and not a part of the company and now it's becoming part of Baseball. Too bad for the ballplayers, while they have made millions and will continue to make millions, a vast majority of working American's just move from job to job trying to pay bills and feed their families. Tough luck for Dallas... That's not a bad thing! That means we all get to go to the local dollar store and buy unbelievably cheap milk, eggs, bread, toilet paper and smart phones. If we so choose, we can even buy cheap-ish water (although my local dollar store is often out of water....strange world)!
  17. With Hiura in the lineup in San Antonio tonight, it looks like the "no's" have it. Hopefully Perez/Shaw can have a big weekend and the "No-no's" will prevail as well!
  18. I'm not sure what the Cubs' or Maddon's intentions have to do with this discussion, or how we typically do against either lefties or righties compared to the rest of the league. If we were facing 3 righties this weekend and Erceg Or Ray were both mashing and likely to be called up in the next couple of months, I'd hope that we would bring one of them up for the Cubs series as well. Games against the Cubs and Cards are basically twice as important as games against everybody else. We should give ourselves the best chance to beat them whenever we play them. If anybody actually thinks we'd be better off this weekend with a 13th pitcher or Saladino, I'd honestly like to hear their rationale. If they don't call him up it won't be a horrible mistake or anything, but if they do call him up it wouldn't be a horrible mistake either. Still, they should give themselves the best chance to win the next 3 games, and having Hiura on the roster will do that.
  19. Not only would it help the starting lineup, but then we'd also have a non-Pina RH bat on the bench in Perez as well. It seems foolish to go into this series "as is" with our position player roster. I'd be okay with Saladino, but I don't see the point in delaying Hiura unless the Brewers plan to either keep him down ALL year. Even if that is the plan, you could still bring him up for this series then keep him down until June of NEXT year and it would be a decent option. The matchups fit too perfectly right now and the reasons against it are almost nil (outside of some psychological maturity thing where the Brewers think it would be jarring for him to be moved around and could significantly hinder his development....which seems like a pretty big reach to me).
  20. Very simple 2 part yes/no question/poll- 1. Will Keston Hiura be brought up to face the Cubs this weekend? 2. Should Keston Hiura be brought up to face the Cubs this weekend? Please, no discussion allowed in this thread as there is already a lengthy Hiura thread. Only "yes yes", "no no" or "y n" "no yes" type responses. Thank you. Looking to see what the fanatics think our GM should/will do.
  21. Having Hiura play 2nd base against the Cubs this weekend increases the chances of the Brewers winning the division this year. Send down Burch Smith. When we need another bullpen arm, send Hiura back down until well after the super 2 cutoff. DFA Hart, Wilkerson or Spangenburg (.213/.300/.326)
  22. Chris Hook is continuing his dominant coaching for 6 straight days. I'd love to see Woody pitch until 105 pitches or so.
  23. 6-0 lead should help. With his lively fastball he shouldn't have to be too picky. Challenge them early in the count and see if they can hit it.
