  1. I'm sure the Mets would ask for that because they probably the worst trading partner ever, but I don't believe we can give up Santana during a run like this, especially the way he is hitting. Phillips, Ray, Hader, Ortiz I would do for DeGrom and a reliever. I actually like this idea. We have the talent to give up and if we get the so called TOR arm, we should do it. I would actually rather give up someone besides Ortiz and give up another bat instead, but I'd be interested what the Mets and DS for that matter would think about that deal.
  2. Not that Ray is crushing the ball or anything, but for all the love he gets, I'm surprised he isn't in the Top 100
  3. I would love to see us put together a package of players DS isn't planning on keeping on the 40 man next year that the Giants might be able to use. The Reed's and Cravy's of the world to round out a package. I still think since the GM is not talking rebuild, they might be interested Braun, but I have no idea how to start constructing a deal. I would love to swap Braun and Samardzija and let some of the young outfielders play. DS won't just give away Braun though. Should be an interesting month!
  4. I agree with this. I also think that statistics can be used to argue for one player or another that you may not even know you have a bias towards. This is why multiple scouts are needed from the same organization to look in on players when being looked at for trades or draft.
  5. I think trading guys who won't make the 40 man next year could be a good compromise. Maybe some prospects that the shine has worn off or someone that DS isn't as high on. Try and get someone that is blocked in minors or a reliever with lots of control left. We may lose those players anyway next year. Trade two or three of them for someone who will definitely be on the 40 man next year. I think that is just smart use of assets.
  6. Is it just me or has Dillard had a great year so far? It seems like he's putting up zeros every time he goes out there. I think a lot of us, me included, don't give him enough credit for his baseball skills and maybe too much for his dubsmash skills....well, ok maybe at least the former is true. Go Tim!
  7. What does everyone think about handing over a "quantity" Melvin-esque package for Quintana. Something like Brinson or Hader along with 3 or 4 prospects in the 20's range that are pushing the 40 man roster or probably won't make the team due to minors depth. I would have to at least make the call and find out if something can be done. Something like Brinson, Gatewood, Medeiros, Demi, Lara, Reed. Might have to change out Demi for Cordell or something, but I think as long as we don't give up much pitching, the rest could be restocked fairly quickly through the draft. Heck, even if we flame out for the next year, we could still get a haul from Quintana next year at the deadline. It would be nice to deal off some of the "depth" for a major piece.
  8. Does anyone think Pittsburgh might be interested in Reed? Apparently they are looking for more outfielders Marte being suspended. While Reed is unproven, he's been killing the ball in Biloxi and should be a good 4th OF when Marte comes back. I have no idea what we would get in return, but with the glut of OF in the system it might be worth a call.
  9. Enjoy your weekend and some much deserved time off Mass!
  10. Those are some nice starting pitchers! Hopefully we see them all in Milwaukee in the next five years.
  11. My apologies for being a little slow on this, but can someone explain to me why they DFA'd Magnifico and not someone else? I thought he was one of our better up and coming relief arms (not to mention an awesome name). It just seems like a big waste. Was the FO down on him or maybe I just thought he was better than he is. Any explanation someone has would be helpful. Thanks!
  12. Welcome! That is a pretty nice Brewer lineup...except Arcia. Hopefully we can put up some runs today! ...we will probably get shut out now that I said this.
  13. That would make for one hell of a week before opening day! I think DS could find some pieces in the Rangers system for a Braun + deal.
  14. or Sogard? As much as I love Aguilar's bat, I would enjoy seeing all the weird combinations CC would come up with with a bench of Bandy, Niewuenhuis, Perez, DeJesus, Orf.
  15. I have to admit, I was kind of rooting for him. It seemed like he was a good leadership presence in the clubhouse for the young guys. Reed to AA? Ouch
  16. Certainly not hitting the panic button yet, but I wonder if CC goes with Bandy/Pina, Pitcher, Arcia for the last three holes in the lineup. This would be one of the situations I would be ok trying that.
  17. I know its just spring training, but its pretty great to see guys who were in A ball last year raking. Erceg might end up in AA yet.
  18. Hopefully Yo Adrianza! clears in the next couple days too. Not sure why I like him so much as a bench guy...and yes, the nickname is obvious but I couldn't resist.
  19. This move doesn't make as much sense to me. At least Adrianza was versatile. Jesus sounds like he will be stuck at 1B. On the bright side, when we pick up the next guy and DFA him to AAA he might mash at CS.
  20. No idea if the Cubs would go for this, but I would do this trade in a second. If Candelario keeps going the way he has been it will take a lot more than Nelson to get him. I'm thinking he is probably more worth Guerra though.
  21. Now they can have a Jett Bandy bobblehead doll and use all the old ones that are sitting around Miller Park!
  22. I totally get that and don't disagree. I think Stearns thought he could squeeze him through (see Liriano) and it didn't work. It will definitely be interesting to see what Diaz does and where he ends up in the next few years.
  23. While I hate seeing Diaz go, Stearns was rolling the dice that someone wouldn't take an A ball player. Protecting Diaz would have caused issues for the next couple years with the 40 man roster. Putting him on the 40 man doesn't just affect this year is what I'm trying to say I guess. He may have thought he would pick up more players (Getz left in FA) or that another trade might come through. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed that he gets rocked this year and gets sent back to us.
