  1. Carlos Patience Watch.... First AB tonight he saw at least 5 pitches - result = 2B 2nd AB, 1 pitch - result = out 3rd AB, 1 pitch -result = out
  2. Not fooled. Now if you had started the topic with "Roenicke names Yuni starter over Segura" I would have believed it...
  3. If we can steer any future discussion back to Carlos' actual plate discipline going forward, great, thanks. Like when there's actual evidence that he has better patience?
  4. I would much rather see a half-dozen teams that may not have a dire need for roofs have roofs, than to see a dozen or dozen-and-a-half teams that could really use roofs not have roofs. The days of commissioner as dictator for life are over. Commissioners now rule by the will of the owners. While I can imagine you would have no problem getting this into the books when you are commissioner, I would also imagine that you wouldn't sleep too easily once you did. Like a naughty pope, I would expect you to be smothered by a pillow in your sleep and the next commissioner would reverse your roof edict.
  5. In summation: who cares? Glad you found the right thread.....
  6. With the Cubs still in our division, the worst the Brewers can do this year is FOURTH! Yeah!!!
  7. In reality you can't "find" an injury. It has to be documented by people whose professional integrity is on the line. Not to mention Rogers isn't going to go along with a fake injury. Given his history it would be much worse for his career than a bad spring training would be. Even if the alternative was to be cut or go to the minors. Phantom injuries happen all the time. His velocity is down. All the Brewers need to do is say he has a 'tired' arm and a 15 day DL stint will ensue. He can then be sent for a rehab assignment and by the time a roster decision has to be made the brewers will have a few IP of a few pitchers to decide whether to keep Rogers on the 25-man or to waive him. By that time most teams will already be set on their 25man and won't likely claim him.
  8. This makes perfect sense. How can Gonzalez backup short when he's our starting 1B? I know, I know, a traditional GM would have actually plugged the real whole and got a 1B to replace Hart and had Gonzalez be the backup MI. However, Doug once again shows us how he is that dynamic out of the box thinker by leaving the stinker at 1B and getting a wanker to backup the infield. Really unique, what other GM would be so *innovative*....
  9. I would like almost anyone other than Gonzalez at first, but Carlos Lee was pathetic last year. He was league average with Houston last year and pretty bad in Miami with most of the drop in SLG. While he isn't anyones long-term solution for anything he has about a 95% chance of exceeding Gonzalez performance. From all indications he Carlos enjoyed Milwaukee and he would have been a better choice as a backup than most of the bench. Yeah I understand the sentiments about Green, but RR is never going to put him in a role to succeed so we might as well move on....
  10. It gets old having to defend mediocre signings, only because a significant portion of Brewer fans seem to overact negatively.........You need to consider the time value of money. This makes the deal a little better than if it was a straight 3 years, $11 mil/year. Spreading it out saves the Brewers around $1 mil over the course of the contract. Yeah because 3yrs $32m is so much better than 3yrs, $33m..... Thanks for defending the brewers ineptitude, I'm so appreciative of the cross you have to bare....
  11. It seems in past years we always heard about how good advance tickets sales were going, except I don't recall anything this year. Then we hear about the boost of signing Lohse and they jump. Sounds like the decision to sign Lohse was driven by an owner panicking that sales were poor this year and he needed a PR move to boost ticket sales. Sounds like a sound business plan. NOT!
  12. Not his fault we made this deal, my whipping boy is surely going to be Doug Melvin. Let's spread the love and include Attanausea.
  13. The funny thing is that the brewers have spent 70-75% of the cost of Greinke ( on a per year basis) by extending Gomez and signing Lohse. I advocated in the offseason that we should either go for Greinke or trade for Haren or another pitcher with top of the rotation potential instead of a couple years of a mediocre pitcher. While neither of these deals is horrible (no I don't think it kills us to sign Lohse), they clearly show an organization that isn't smart and that doesn't have a plan. That's fine if you have deep pockets like big market teams, but won't do for the smallest market in baseball. We have to be smart and ahead of the curve instead of stupid and following the crowd. A few years ago it was argued by several here we were following the twins model. I just have a bad feeling that might be too true and we can see where that has taken them......
  14. Just show another game on the big screens. Over time brewers fans will get to know what good baseball is..... ok I think I see the problem with my suggestion......
  15. More comments from Cards fans: "I expect this to go about as good as Suppan and Looper did with the Brewers. Have they not learned their lesson?" "While I lobbied hard to retain him, better to face him than Bud Norris."
  16. Day 1: Remove San Jose from the Giants territorial rights and approve the A's move to San Jose. Day 2: Expand the number of teams by 6 (Add New York and LA team, and 4 from Portland, Charlotte, Memphis, Louisville, Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, New Orleans). All 6 teams go into the "second division" and 6 of the franchises with the worst record over the last 10 years (3 NL and 3 AL). That leaves 24 teams (12 AL, 12 NL) for Major league baseball. Go back to 3 division plus 1 wild card for each league make the playoffs. Each year the worst team in the NL and the worst team in the AL are relegated to the second division and the 2 best teams from the second division are promoted. Realignment as necessary based on relegation/promotion. Day 3: Complete revenue sharing by all teams in the Majors. Also all teams in the "second division" share revenues. Day 4: Change service to 1 year @ minimum salary (1st year) and 3 years of arbitration with all players free agents after their 4th year of service. Day 5: Eliminate luxury tax and install a graduated dispersal draft - if a team is under the cap they can protect 30 players on 40 man, as they go over the cap they have 1 less player for every $10million they exceed the cap. At the end of the year a dispersal draft will occur until all players are protected or until all teams are done picking. Order based on Minors/international draft seeding. Second division and relegated/promoted teams are excepted from the dispersal draft. Day 6: Combined international and US Draft for all 36 with a bias in seeding to second division teams. Day 7: Add the DH (sigh).
  17. I love this deal...... I can't wait to get the Brewers STANK off me...... Go Cards!!!
  18. clancyphile only counts as one person you know. Even if he posts it in every thread and in every post.
  19. There's a reason private entities don't have subpoena power. Private entities aren't accountable to the public. Unfortunately our legal system has few disincentives from stopping a huge entity from ruining a tiny entity by burying them in legal fees. MLB has absolutely no case, but they have a lot more money compared to Bosch and they can extort his cooperation by spitting out his carcass just before the last bit of meat is gone. If we had a loser pays legal system lawsuits like this would never see the light of day.
  20. Well in early February I thought 23rd was about right for the brewers. Baseball America in the latest issue have their organizational rankings and the Brewers are ranked, drumroll, 23rd......
  21. I'm all for going to the horses mouth. Then walk to the other end if you want to get a word with Bud.....
  22. Burgos is much more likely to be in the top 100 of many lists next year than jungman, Bradley or Nelson. While Jungman has the potential to be in the list just because of his draft position and he didn't stink last year, but Bradley is going to get dinged a bit for last year unless he has a lights out year this year and I ain't holding my breath. Nelson didn't look great in AA and might need a really good year to move up into the top 100. Burgos already has the WBC exposure to help him and a decent year at AAA should be enough to have him jump on most lists.
  23. Louis, the best option might be to do s video to hdmi. These items: New 3 RCA Composite S-video R/L Audio to HDMI Converter by sunvalleytek Etekcity® Composite RCA video AV S-video CVBS to HDMI Converter,S-video R/L Audio to HDMI 720P / 1080P HD Upscaler DVD CD HDTV by Etekcity @ Amazon have good reviews and are probably cheaper than a dock ($40-47). You will also need an audio out to r/l cable that are ~$4. The 2nd, unreviewed item has better hdmi out specs....
  24. Here's a perfect analysis of Gomez (from BP 2012): Gomez has a terrible approach at the plate, but he has enough athletic ability that his “grip and rip” strategy resulted in a career-high ISO in 2011. That such a phenomenal defensive center fielder couldn't hold his job with a well-above-average rate of extra base hits is stark commentary on his inability to either make regular contact or draw walks. He's still young, though three organizations have yet to make progress with coaching his swing. The good news is that his approach lends itself to a fluky good season if he gets regular playing time, so he's a dark-horse candidate to have a surprisingly high WARP out of the blue. Talk about hitting a bullseye. This one deal doesn't make Melvin a bad GM. It's just part of a series of poor decisions and a reinforcement that he has absolutely no long-term plan that make him a bad GM.
