  1. Wow, what a beautiful piece of hitting by Hall. Here's hoping Clayton sees a lot more off days in the future I don't know, but it seems to me that Hall's hands aren't fast enough for the majors. We need someone at short who has fast hands at the plate like Royce Clayton. Did I mention Clayton was a battler? What evidence do we have that Bill Hall is a battler?
  2. However, if I have to choose between the major league deal or no deal at all, I'm all for the MLB deal. Let him walk and take the supplemental next year. He has enough questions that I wouldn't have a problem if the brewers said see ya. Would he really be willing to head back to Southern? Even if he had a similar year at Southerm, he would have no bargaining power when drafted as a senior so I say the Brewers should just say NO to a major league contract. If he threatens to walk, fine. This team isn't one prospect away from succeeding and Weeks still has a TON to prove.
  3. I think you'll find the Brewers to be a fine organization Especially if you like losing! Let's hope your son can help turn that around. Welcome.
  4. Belcher can play center? He's more of a power forward. And how about Johnny Raburn? Three hits last night. Wow, he doubled his production for the year.
  5. most of those guys turned into major league regulars...and most of them were pretty good...i dont think there are any hall of famers on that list...but definitely some all stars Which list? This one (from Harold): Travis Lee (loaned from the D-Backs when they did not have a AAA team) Ben McDonald Jim Abbott Terry Francona or this one (From Batman): 2003 Rickie Weeks - Southern 2002 Khalil Greene - Clemson 2001 Mark Prior - Southern California 2000 Kip Bouknight - South Carolina 1999 Jason Jennings - Baylor 1998 Pat Burrell - Miami 1997 J.D. Drew - Florida State 1996 Travis Lee - San Diego State 1995 Mark Kotsay - Cal State Fullerton 1994 Jason Varitek - Georgia Tech 1993 Darren Dreifort - Wichita State 1992 Phil Nevin - Cal State Fullerton 1991 Mike Kelly - Arizona State 1990 Alex Fernandez - Miami-Dade South 1989 Ben McDonald - Louisiana State 1988 Robin Ventura - Oklahoma State 1987 Jim Abbott - Michigan 1986 Mike Loynd - Florida State 1985 Will Clark - Mississippi State 1984 Oddibe McDowell - Arizona State 1983 Dave Magadan - Alabama 1982 Augie Schmidt - New Orleans 1981 Mike Fuentes - Florida State 1980 Terry Francona - Arizona 1979 Tim Wallach - Cal State Fullerton 1978 Bob Horner - Arizona State ?
  6. Selig has been a decent comish in my opinion,he done some good things and had some things backfire on him.I think his biggest problem is hes not media savy and comes accross bad on TV. It's possible that with some better media relations/interactions he might have avoided a lot of the pack mentality by the press to attach him. However, his choice has always had some fundamental problems. Noone can question Selig's love for the game, but he is the owner of one of the worst organizations in baseball (bottom 3) and to promote him to commissioner/head of baseball causes major credibility problems when trying to make major changes. Imagine taking the apartment manager of the worst building you've lived in and made them director of HUD. Imagine taking the most incompetant boss you have ever had and make them President of the US. Imagine taking the head of the worst performing division within a large company and making them CEO. Selig has always had a credibility gap because his organization has done so poorly. Bud lacks credibility when he says the problems with small markets are more revenue sharing when his small market team can't succeed even with larger budgets than teams like Oakland and Minnesota. If MLB had chosen a successful owner from a small market, they would instantly have more credibility than Bud ever will. You don't put one of the worst people in your group as head and expect to get great PR and have your business plans go unquestioed. If MLB was a company, it's stock would have gone into freefall when Bud was announced as commissioner. He will never be able to get away from his lack of legitimacy, but I do agree a better repoire with the media would have made it easier.
  7. Ok, I'm sold. I don't care if it counts... this time it's GOOD!!! You didn't think it was Good last year? I know it ended on a bad note, but the game itself was entertaining and good.
  8. So, if all things are even, teams more often than not are going to take the guy with the height advantage. We can discuss all the theories we want, but it just comes down to the fact that chicks dig tall pitchers.
  9. Hes just not getting his job done, time to remove him from that role. Are we talking about Rusch or DeJean? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif It's pretty clear that Yost will stick with his players (Clayton, EY, Rusch, DeJean) even when it's clear that throwing them out their isn't getting them over whatever "slump" he thinks they are in. Yost is a rookie manager who overvalues veteran leadership, doesn't understand OBP, and seems to relate to crappy players just like he was. At this point Yost's positives (I'm sure he has some, but I'm pressed to think of any right now) don't outweigh his negatives, but as long as this team sucks it doesn't matter. As soon as we actually get some talent he will be a liability unless he gets a clue. My greatest fear is that he continues to overextend Sheets and we end up with a torn labrum for our best pitcher to go with a 65 win team, He's brighter than Lopester, but not by much and I would shoot for a bit more than that if I was Nedly.
  10. Just wanted to mention that... Al's got a good post on his blog with a link to Baseball Crank.... worth checking out. http://www.grahamsalisbury.com/spam.gif
  11. Well, looks like he at least has a Yale education to fall back on.... Good luck Jon.... Too bad it didn't work out for ya.... He also has that 3rd round signing bonus. Can't say the writing wasn't on the wall since you really need to be able to get the ball over the plate to have any success in baseball. Maybe they don't teach that at Yale.......
  12. et me be the first to say it...dempster sucks Sounds pretty similar to a description of Wes Helms this past winter.......I wonder if we can trust the source? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif
  13. In Ford's 5 starts to date, he hasn't pitched 5 complete innings yet. If he can't pitch 5 innings, he won't be able to win a single game as a starter! That's true. However, considering they are trying to work him from being a 1 inning every week player to an every-5-day starter I would imagine he is on a strict pitch count. Making it to 5 might take some time until he builds up his stamina. The Brewers are taking a guy that they should be looking to build up for the future and slowly eroding his confidence. Most rookies aren't very good their first season. Especially if they are rushed from high-A ball. It's the manager and pitching coaches job to make sure that Ford understands why they have him in the starting rotation, that they expect him to have some rough outings and considering his age and experience he's been great so far. If his psyche is so fragile, then he might as well quit now and open a bait shop. Low stress, low rewards.
  14. He was successful out of the pen...keep him there and see what Burba could do with four or five starts. Why? So we can win 1 or 2 more games? Ford's potential is as a starter and I am 100% behind getting him innings and working him as a starter even if it means some bumps along the way.
  15. Please, National League, adopt the designated hitter rule... http://www.clicweb.fr/clip/dessins/troll.gif
  16. shutup dave I see you're taking debating while at Oxford.
  17. Then you'd a sports writer for MJS. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif
  18. Your thoughts could blow away the works of the greatest philosophers in content, but if you spell like a 9 year-old, you still look like an idiot. What if I spell like one of the worlds greatest philosophers, but my thoughts are like a 9 year-old?
  19. JP said during the game tonight that Rickie Weeks crew and the Brewers have agreed to not publicize any information related to contract negotiations. Wouldn't JP making that statement violate the agreement not to publicize any information related to contract negotiations? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  20. And David, what if I changed this: Hey now, I stopped criticizing Fielder well over a year ago now to this: Hey now, I stopped criticizing Fielder, well, over a year ago now Good ? You are a literary force to be reckoned with. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif My unhappiness with the Prince choice (I had a thing for that Texas kid named Kazmir) has been blown away by his performance to date. I just wish some would put his age and experience in perspective and realize there are many steps until he's a productive major leaguer. I just hope there are some pleasent suprises in the class of 2003 to take away some of my doubts. Maybe next year at FanFest I can beat Igor with the "Sample Size" stick and he can hit me with the "Pessimist" stick. Now there's something to look forward too.... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. Hey now, I stopped criticizing Fielder well over a year ago now WELL OVER a year? One year ago was July 8, 2002. Well over is at least more than 1 week. More like several weeks more than a year. So if we subtract 4 weeks we get about June 8, 2002. Would that be correct? Or do most people think that 'well over a year ago' is more like 1.5 years? That would be before the draft and if I recall Prince wasn't at the top of your list last year. I need to go back and check the Brewerfan.net archives to see if someone might be exaggerating a tad bit in their use of adjectives. I guess we should give our favorite Draft-obsessed poster a break.......but the Kotchman obsession is another story. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. When the Brewers trade Vanderwal is their any reason not to call-up Rushford? He can't hit major league pitching?
  23. If we were another team, I'm guessing we could flip Bud the bird and get him signed for Bullington money tomorrow. Guess what? What! It's funny how a paltry sum of a few hundred thousand dollars is sneered at by fans who want to get their guy signed. As Chris said, there is a very real chance that this is it for Rickie Weeks... I have done the calculations and you can have a comfortable lifestyle if you can get ~$1.3M post tax. Anything more is just tips for the pizza delivery man.
