I'm not quite ready to anoint him a future great quite yet. or even a future starter. Sure he has looked great this spring, but so have many other players that never turn into anything. He has had solid numbers throughout his minors career but I want to have him have another season in Nashville and if a spot opens itself up great, if not let him get constant AB's down there and figure it out next off-season if he has a great or even good year
I didnt know if to put this in the what is your lineup thread but anyways RRR pretty much annoucned our lineup today. Aoki Weeks Braun Ramirez Lucroy Gonzalez then he said he is debating between Gomez and Segura for who will bat 7th & 8th. I like the front 5 but then I would go Gomez Segura Gonzalez assuming those are the 8 starters
Actually the depth I am not to worried about. If someone other than Gallardo gets hurt I think we can slide in Thornburg or Burgos or maybe even Hellweg and be just fine.
So Roenicke announced that Gallardo, Estrada, Peralta, Narveson, Fiers is going to open as our rotation. What do yall think? I personally like it. Its about what i expected. I love our depth this year with Rogers, Thornburg, Burgos, Hellweg.
Right now I would go with Axford-closer Gonzalez Gorzelanny Olmstead Henderson Badenhop Kintzler I would use set-up by committee til someone steps up and earns it. Maybe Gonzalez to start. Henderson hasn't earned it this spring but its spring so I'm willing to see if its a fluke and he can regain his form from last year but I wouldn't just hand it to him. I also think Peralta goes to the minors and Rogers is traded with Burgos in the rotation
Its a decent move. If he plays like he did last year he is definately worth it. if he regresses back to his old ways hes probably around more of a 6 mil player. So not a horrible overpay. If he continues to improve it is definately a great move. He is a 5 tool player and we now have 3/4 of our lineup locked up for atleast 3 seasons allowing us to maybe make some of our upper level prospects available for trade or depth
Ya I don't get why they can get the throwback right but not the current alternate? and why even put in throwbacks the team never wears in exchange of two alternates that the team actually wears
I saw it at a lids store up here in Green Bay and purchased it right away. Its my nrew favorite jersey by far. So dissapointed its not in the new MLB the Show
That is really interesting. I didn't know that. If, and a big if, they sign Lohse, than I believe I'd go ahead and start Peralta in the minors, but if they don't I might be tempted to bring him up right away. Guess you could just let spring sort it out to.
That is great news in that I don't see his skills diminishing for a few years so we could potentially have our Right Fielder Lead off hitter for awhile
olmsted is on the 40-man roster. major league deal. he has three minor league options remaining, as this was the first time he had his contract purchased and added to a 40-man roster. Ok, thank you for fixing that for me. I knew he had never pitched in the majors so I just assumed it was a minors deal
Wolf was solid for the first two years. Same with Suppan. Might be able to get him on a 2 year deal at this point. Besides in 2 years Gallardo Weeks Hart Gomez Aoki Ramirez are all likely to be gone or soon to be gone and we will be rebuilding again. Now is the time to go for it
Don't ya think bad is a bit of underrating him? He would most likely be our 2nd best pitcher. the question is if the upgrade from Rogers/Narveson to him is worth the contract and loss of a draft pick. I can see both sides of the argument.
I remember a thread similiar to this idea last year and thought it'd be a good idea to go for it again so here's mine.... Record 89-73 Division: 2nd(wildcard) All Stars: Gallardo, Braun, Ramirez Disappointments: Estrada, Weeks, Gomez Surprises: Segura, Schafer, Rogers World Series: Rays over Braves
As many of stated, our farm system is down right now, mainly cause our top prospects are in the lower levels. But we might not have an offense this good again for awhile. I don't want to waste this season with below average pitching and just so we can have some player (who has a 50/50 shot of even making it to the majors) help us win 85 games for a few years.
I don't think it would be the end of the world to sign him to a 2 year contract with a 3rd year option for around 10 a year. Could slide in to the #2 slot and make us a legit contender in my mind. His numbers have been really good the last two years and a 2 year contract doesn't kill you. losing the draft pick would hurt but I don't think it kills the system and its not like Seid has a great drafting record anyways
Does anyone honestly think hell replicate those numbers though? I feel it is much more likely he regresses to a 3 or 4 along with Fiers. Right now i feel we have our ace with Gallardo, Fiers & Estrada both as 3 or 4's. Narveson a 5 and Rogers and Peralta anywhere from a 2 to a 5. I think our whole season depends on one of those two stepping up and pitching like it or both
