  1. The Cardinals did something similar back in 2017 (during the offseason) by sending Stephen Piscotty to the A’s. In that case it was done to get Piscotty closer to his mom who was battling Lou Gehrig's disease. Piscotty went on to have a very good season on the field that year (in 2018), but unfortunately his mom passed away that May. Regarding the proposal, I think the Brewers would probably do a Hiura for Lux swap in a heartbeat, but unfortunately it seems like Hiura’s value, especially for a team without the DH, has taken a drastic hit. Either way, it’s an interesting thought experiment to wonder if there is a team out there that believes they could help fix Hiura’s current offensive issues.
  2. I think if they offered Mitchell the Rockies (or at least any other normally functioning team that isn’t the Rockies) would take that deal, but I have to imagine Mitchell is off-limits for a rental from the Brewers standpoint. I think the cost to acquire Story will be more than what say Manny Machado cost as a rental, especially considering the Rockies may not be overly eager to move another one of their stars given the previous backlash. It seems more likely that someone like Turang or Ashby could be a headliner for the deal, still a very steep price from the Brewers depleted farm system, but not quite to the level Mitchell appears to be rising towards. I think you’d need to see some, but not all, of those things happen in order for a Story rental to make sense. If Woodruff, Burnes, and Peralta continue to appear dominant most times out then adding an impact bat to the offense could be a needle mover towards competing for [and in] the post-season. I still think back to 2011 and wonder what could’ve been if the Brewers had used someone like Tyler Thornburg to headline a trade for Jose Reyes. Although again in that case the Mets were a team that didn’t appear overly motivated to move Reyes despite his expiring contract (and ultimately did not trade him), so who knows if that was even within the realm of possibilities. With the pitching staff in place I think the Brewers at least need to do their due diligence in finding out what it would take for a top 5-6 that looked something like this: 1) Wong 2) Yelich 3) Story 4) Narvaez 5) Garcia 6) Shaw
  3. I am about as optimistic on Urias as anyone, but I don’t think a short-term rental of Story would actually have that much impact on Urias’ development as the long-term shortstop. I think you’d put Story at SS for two months and have a situation where Urias and Shaw split time at 3B (while Shaw also would get some starts at 1B).
  4. Following up on that MLB.com article linked above, if I had to handicap the odds of where Story is playing come this August, I’d go with the following order (from most likely to least likely destination): 1) Rockies (as in they don’t trade him and settle for a comp draft pick in return for losing him) 2) Yankees 3-tie) Reds 3-tie) Brewers 5) A’s After that I guess just bet the field. I don’t think the Rays would make a serious move for Story despite what that article mentions. I think it’s highly likely that Trevor Story signs in free agency next offseason with either the Rangers or Yankees (assuming there is a new collective bargaining agreement at some point).
  5. New article from MLB.com, If Rockies deal Story, these clubs are best fits Here’s an excerpt from the article: Brewers The Brewers are off to a solid start in the competitive NL Central, though Milwaukee ranks 26th in runs scored. Injuries (Christian Yelich) and underperformance (Keston Hiura, Jackie Bradley Jr.) have been an issue, but the production from shortstop has been below average; Luis Urías (31 strikeouts in 94 at-bats) and three others have combined for a .580 OPS, good for 25th in the Majors. The cost-conscious Brewers rank 28th in the league in terms of farm system strength, but as we previously mentioned, rental position players don’t always necessitate a big package of prospects. Whether Milwaukee would be willing to take on Story’s salary -- he’ll earn a little more than $6 million over the final two months -- could also stand in the way of a deal between the Rockies and Brewers, but the fit is there on the field.
  6. Brandon Woodruff: Batter (Cardinals) vs Pitching Stats John Gant: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Cardinals-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Cardinals-Brewers
  7. Outplayed nobody lmao They squared up balls all night when the Cardinals made weak contact for the better part of the first 10 innings.
  8. I’d be more upset, but my expectations for Boxberger have been so low from the beginning that I was a just pleasantly surprised he made it this far without many blowups.
  9. The Brewers have put Carpenter (walk), Williams (walk), and Knizner (HBP) on base in important situations tonight. Those are all hitters you need to make prove they can do something against you.
  10. Well the Brewers are going to lose a game in which they’ve outplayed the Cardinals. What’s new.
  11. I think Hook is gone so perhaps that's why. Yeah, he’s not at the game tonight for some yet to be announced reason.
  12. He hasn’t been good so far this season, but of all nights tonight probably isn’t the one to get extra down on him. He made a nice play to catch a line drive earlier, and has absolutely scolded three balls tonight.
  13. It’s insane how many fly outs the Brewers have hit to the warning track tonight. Why do I feel like without the new baseball this game isn’t 1-1 right now.
  14. So do we think J.P. Feyereisen is an option for the 10th (if it gets there), or does the fact they had him up in the bullpen earlier mean he’s done for the night?
  15. As someone who was frustrated at Hader’s usage in the bottom of the 9th in Miami in the 1-1 tie game, I will say I think it’s much more understandable to use him in the 9th at home (when you still have an at bat in the bottom of the 9th), especially with the Cardinals middle of the order up. That being said, here’s a FanGraphs article that outlines some of the reasoning why high strikeout closers are more valuable than ever in the new extra innings format: Save Your Closer! (Terms and Conditions May Apply)
  16. Yeah, this is one where the Cardinals should feel like they stole one if they pull it out. The Brewers haven’t been world beaters offensively tonight, but they’ve been good enough that they should probably have more than one run.
  17. This is only his 60th career game, but sort of surprised Tyrone Taylor only has one major league stolen base attempt (which was successful).
  18. Especially against Carpenter. He’s a hitter you have to make earn it at this point in his career.
  19. Don’t feel real good about where this is likely headed. Walking Carpenter is tough to stomach in this situation.
  20. I believe it’s only the 4th time in his career he’s completed more than 6.0 IP. He has two 7.0 IP appearances (both in 2018), and one 8.0 IP game which was against the Reds when he out-dueled Luis Castillo, 1-0, in a day game back in 2019.
