  1. Luis Urias on the bench tonight, which isn’t overly surprising given his defensive struggles. Counsell was somewhat candid last night about Urias needing to be able to be able to consistently make the routine plays in order to continue as the shortstop on a team with championship aspirations.
  2. A Brewers version of “Let’s Remember Some Guys” [from bad teams] is therapeutic in times like these.
  3. Daniel Vogelbach’s career line versus RHP Brad Keller: 3-for-6 with 3 home runs
  4. Corbin Burnes: Batter (Royals) vs Pitching Stats Brad Keller: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Royals-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Royals-Brewers
  5. The silver lining tonight is the Brewers didn’t make any outs with a runner in scoring position.
  6. That’s the 5th time the Brewers have been shutout this season. Four of their five shutout losses have been 2-0.
  7. Compounded by being backed up on their terrible calls by a corrupt replay system. Rob Manfred sure is trying his best to make baseball unwatchable. Of course, this putrid Brewers offense isn't helping, either. I used to be mostly “meh” on the Rob Manfred hate, but there have been so few positive steps forward for the game over the past few years. I understand that the Commissioner position is really just a henchman expected to carry out the wishes of the owners, but at least past Commissioners put some effort into the facade that they were looking out for the best interests and overall health of the game. Manfred is pretty much in place to suck every last penny out of the game on the owners’ behalf, long-term implications be damned.
  8. I thought so too. Went back and watched it, looks like he gets the armpit of his jersey with the tag. It’s hard to tell where the runners hand is at that point because of the bad angles, but if I had to guess I would say he was probably out. I don’t blame replay for not reversing it if they didn’t have any better angles than what we saw.
  9. He looked out in real-time. EDIT: How do they not have a closer replay then that in a Major League Baseball game? Those replay angles were horrible.
  10. From Will Sammon... Brandon Woodruff is back at No. 1 in baseball for lowest average run support: 1.58 Brandon Woodruff's ERA (pending): 1.42 The Brewers entered tonight 6-2 in Woodruff's starts this season, but damn.
  11. What an absolutely terrible strike three call to Yelich. Baseball is already struggling with offense plummeting, and now umpires are going to give pitchers 3-4 inches off the plate.
  12. When we get to the 7th inning deadlocked in a 0-0 tie it sort of feels like a 3 inning mini-game. Glad they are now into the bullpen at least.
  13. 163 games spanning over 4 seasons. Lets see what he does over the course of a full season of regular playing time.
  14. Yelich has officially been activated for tonight’s game. Hoby Milner has been optioned.
  15. Today’s Royals starter, LHP Kris Bubic, went 5.1 IP (101 pitches) in a start against the Brewers last September. He allowed just 1 hit and 0 earned runs while striking out 7 and walking 4 that day. The Brewers did manage to win that game, 5-0. Bubic pitched in 10 games last year, and that outing against the Brewers was the only one in which he didn’t give up an earned run. This year Bubic has gone 5 or more innings in his last two outings (5.0 IP and 5.2 IP) despite not starting a game yet this season. He didn’t allow an earned run in either of those past two appearances. His season high pitch count thus far is 80.

  17. The current Collective Bargaining Agreement expires on December 1, 2021. Assuming there isn’t a new deal in place when we get to that date [spoiler: there won’t be], free agency will be frozen from taking place until the new CBA is executed. If the CBA negotiations take up most of the offseason that will leave little time for signings to occur before the season begins. In that scenario I wonder if more players than usual will take the shorter term, higher AAV deals? Of course that’s a big assumption that a deal even gets worked out during the offseason prior to 2022.
  18. Saw this Tweet for the three starting pitchers you’re referring to... Combined stats for [the Brewers “big three”] in 2021: 21 starts 122.2 IP 28 R, 27 ER 180 strikeouts, 31 walks 39% K, .150 BAA, 0.77 WHIP 1.98 ERA, 1.99 FIP
  19. Agreed. At the time it was a little overshadowed by the fact the rest of the defense was completely melting down around him, but that Reyes play was spectacular. I don’t think the Brewers have another player on the 40-man roster that would’ve made that play at 3B.
  20. Per Adam McCalvy: You are correct -- you have never seen a Brewers team give up this many grand slams in such a short time. They have surrendered five this month. They had never done that in any month in franchise history. It is May 16.
  21. Why do I get the feeling turborickey tuned in around the 7th inning. I am not one that puts too much stock in divine intervention, but if any of the offense can indeed be attributed to your absence from following today, then my sincere thanks for taking one for the team!
  22. Well they are definitely “built” on pitching and defense. It didn’t look like it today obviously, but that seemed to be a big part of their strategy this offseason. I mean they certainly weren’t built to put up 10 runs very often.
  23. Orlando Arcia hit a walk-off home run today. That’s 7 home runs in 52 Triple-A at bats. Is he going develop into something for the Braves this season, or is he a quintessential 4A player at this point?
