  1. This FanGraphs article isn't solely focused on Corbin Burnes, but the first several paragraphs are specifically about his pitch mix transformation: Finding Corbin / By Ben Clemens
  2. I won’t be shocked if the three highest paid relievers on that list aren’t with the team when 2021 gets underway.
  3. MLB Trade Rumors: 2020-21 Top 50 MLB Free Agents With Predictions Their Brewers predictions... 36. Robbie Ray – Brewers. One year, $6MM. 38. Carlos Santana – Brewers. One year, $6MM.
  4. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but leaving him off the 60-man player pool this summer made me less hopeful they see him as an option at the major league level anytime soon.
  5. Which is why I think they’re likely to trade that Competitive Balance Round A pick. Doing so will save them approximately $2.2 million. I would certainly prefer they keep the pick and use that money to leverage their draft options accordingly, but their previous track record coupled with it being a year where they’re going to be checking the couch cushions suggests that pick is likely to be gone.
  6. FanGraphs provided the ZiPS projections for Ha-Seong Kim a few weeks ago if anyone is interested: Ha-seong Kim Has Big MLB Aspirations and Projections Also, today FanGraphs released their 2021 Top 50 Free Agents list and Kim’s projected contract per Craig Edwards was 5 years for $60 million ($12 million AAV). He also estimated a posting fee of around $10 million. So a total estimated commitment of $70 million to land Kim. Sounds like some think Kim will be better suited for 3B in MLB (a position he has also played in KBO). I know it’s not likely an option for the Brewers, but if Kim realizes his ZiPS projections then he would certainly be worth the money.
  7. Matt Arnold has interviewed to become Angels GM according the Ken Rosenthal... In addition to many names previously reported, former Giants GM Bobby Evans and Brewers assistant GM Matt Arnold have interviewed for Angels’ GM job, sources tell The Athletic. First round, consisting of approximately 20 interviews, expected to be completed early next week.
  8. Via Jon Heyman: Not one team claimed Brad Hand for $10M. He was a top 3 finalist for AL reliever of the year with a 0.77 WHIP. and 16 saves. Time to revise free agent contract projections downward! (Hand is now a free agent after Indians then declined the $10M option and paid $1M buyout.)
  9. Via Haudricourt: Stearns said could still have interest in either Sogard or Gyorko depending on how offseason plays out.
  10. Brewers announce that Sogard's option has been declined (link)
  11. So by declining Gyorko's $4.5 million option the Brewers will be on the hook for his $1.0 million buyout.
  12. Sure performance wise he was solid, but I heard he wouldn't listen to the hitting coach.
  13. FanGraphs released their 2021 Top 50 Free Agents list. It includes both crowdsourced contract estimates as well as Craig Edwards best guesses.
  14. On one hand, I'm a little surprised at them declining Gyorko's option. On the other hand, I'm fascinated to see what they're going to do at infield corners for 2021.
  15. The Tigers are on the verge of hiring AJ Hinch and it somehow isn’t even the worst managerial hire made in the AL Central today thanks to the White Sox.
  16. The Atlanta Braves reportedly declined the $3.5 million team option for Darren O'Day. So another solid reliever that will be on the free agent market.
  17. Since the season is over the waiver priority order is just reverse standings across all of MLB regardless of league. So the Brewers would need these 14 teams above them to pass on Hand's contract (listed in order of waiver priority): Pittsburgh Pirates Texas Rangers Detroit Tigers Boston Red Sox Baltimore Orioles Arizona Diamondbacks Kansas City Royals Colorado Rockies Los Angeles Angels New York Mets Washington Nationals Seattle Mariners Philadelphia Phillies San Francisco Giants If he gets past that gauntlet of the Angels, Mets, and Nationals I'll be very surprised.
  18. This was my thought as well. Relievers always seem to have more value in-season anyway, but if this offseason is beginning with Brad Hand available to whomever will pay him $10 million, then we probably need to temper those Hader trade proposals a bit further.
  19. Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak commented yesterday about the team’s trade of Randy Arozarena last January (Article Link): Mozeliak pre-emptively addressed the Randy Arozarena Experience and said that he would "own" that trade and that it would necessitate the team knowing its personnel better and not making the same mistake again. Edit (found the exact quote): "I will own that. That's on me. You need to know your own players. We will revisit how we rank our own players and make sure that we don't have something like this happen again."
  20. Agreed, it’s not going to be a good year to be a mid-tier free agent. The unknown of when they’ll be able to pack the stands again coupled with the fact we’re one year away from the expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement will make this an offseason where teams won’t go beyond one year deals unless it’s for the top crust of the free agent class.
  21. More details per Jeff Passan: In the second inning tonight, the lab doing COVID tests informed MLB that Justin Turner’s test from yesterday came back inconclusive. The samples from today had just arrived and were run. It showed up positive. The league immediately called the Dodgers and said to pull Turner. When the Dodgers return to their hotel tonight, everybody will be given a rapid PCR test. On the field right now, as they celebrate, the Dodgers are wearing masks. Unclear as to whether they’ll stay in Dallas area before traveling back to Los Angeles. Situation fluid right now.
  22. That's really bad timing. No celebrating for him! Maybe he felt ill during the game and received a rapid test? So many questions, but regardless it seems like an unfortunate yet appropriate way for the 2020 baseball season to end.
  23. They are reporting Justin Turner left the game tonight due to a positive COVID test. Don’t they get the results to those before the game?
  24. Now officially just five days from the start of the free agency...
  25. Brett Phillips, World Series Game 4 hero. Unbelievable. ...also that defense from the Dodgers on the last play was remarkably awful.
