  1. Well just a couple minutes away from first pitch of the Brewers 2020 Postseason adventure. The worst thing that could happen to MLB in this Wild Card round is the Brewers knocking the Dodgers out of the playoffs. Let’s go Crew!
  2. Gio Urshela is one of many good examples of why you shouldn’t always decide who a player is after they struggle at the MLB level in their early-to-mid 20’s. Player development is far from a linear progression.
  3. Devin Williams told reporters he thinks he’ll be back of the Brewers make it to the next round, and is crushed having to sit this one out. Let’s do it for Devin!... and Corbin!... oh, and Brett!
  4. One reason I want a Brewers win tonight (beyond all of the obvious reasons) is I’m sort of curious if the websites that give Postseason odds would give the Brewers a greater than 50% chance to win the series if they went up 1-0? It feels like they might still favor the Dodgers to win two straight in that scenario.
  5. For the Postseason the Brewers social media team appears to have switched over to a power outage type of graphic which may prove apropos.
  6. Now five of the first six Cardinals batters have hits and the announcers just said the Cardinals are “pouring it on”.
  7. Goldschmidt 2-run home run in the 1st inning against the Padres. Four of the first five Cardinals batters have hits. Now 3-0.
  8. Jesus Aguilar 2-run home run might be the dagger for the Cubs hopes today. Marlins up 5-1.
  9. Twins record Postseason losing streak is 3 outs away from remaining intact for at least another calendar year.
  10. Not to mention there’s no extra runner rule in Postseason extra innings, so you could have a marathon game you have to cover [see Reds-Braves currently in 12th inning and counting]. Having the potential for 27+ innings to be covered in three days without a lot of arms that will go multiple innings seems like one more would make sense. I guess they probably wouldn’t hesitate to send someone to the injury list in order to add someone from the taxi squad if needed. Whatever, hopefully Freitas or Healy hit a grand slam and it looks genius.
  11. So far it appears the NL Central hitters have picked up where they left off in terms of futility. That being said, Trevor Bauer’s performance against the Braves lineup was also very impressive. Reds-Braves still scoreless in the 11th inning.
  12. Here is the more official looking version of their Wild Card roster. They won’t be announcing their playoff taxi squad like many other teams are doing.
  13. Matt Arnold becoming the next GM seems like a move that’s been signaled for a while now.
  14. Only 3 lefties against a lineup that is substantially worse against lefty pitching is an odd choice. They did load up on the inconsistent power righties, though, with Rasmussen, Topa and Black. That is a lot of heat, but also potentially a lot of very straight fastballs that can leave the park in a hurry. Looking at that roster which includes missing 3 of your best pitchers (Burnes, Williams, Anderson) and seeing a third catcher and Ryon Healy included makes me think they must’ve really soured on Eric Lauer more than I anticipated.
  15. At this point I am much more worried about the severity of the injury since he’s already missed significant time after one Tommy John surgery. Hopefully nothing to that level of concern, but obviously it’s enough to keep him out for at least the next three days.
  16. The Brewers only have 12 pitchers on their Wild Card roster despite the high probability of heavy bullpen usage. No Eric Lauer for those of us that were wondering if he’d get a shot.
  17. Devin Williams is not on Wild Card series roster according to Jeff Passan. Arm injury. Passan: Huge blow for the Milwaukee Brewers: Rookie right-hander Devin Williams, the best reliever in baseball this year, has been left off the roster for their wild card series against the top-seeded Los Angeles Dodgers, sources tell ESPN. He's dealing with an arm issue, sources said.
  18. Devin Williams has been left off the Wild Card roster due to an arm issue according to Jeff Passan. Per Passan: Huge blow for the Milwaukee Brewers: Rookie right-hander Devin Williams, the best reliever in baseball this year, has been left off the roster for their wild card series against the top-seeded Los Angeles Dodgers, sources tell ESPN. He's dealing with an arm issue, sources said. Per Haudricourt: Brewers put out playoff roster without Devin Williams. He has right shoulder soreness. Hearing it's not really bad but enough to keep out of best-of-three.
  19. I believe it's due to MLB by Noon CT.
  20. A few notes on Walker Buehler: The most innings he went in a game this year was 6.0 IP, and he only did that once. As mentioned elsewhere he hasn't thrown more than 71 pitches in a game since August 21st. His four-seam fastball (throws it 54% of time) has been nearly unhittable this year. Hitters have a .102 BA on it, just a .119 SLG against it, and a .165 wOBA. That's pretty bonkers for a starter. Buehler's most hittable pitch has been his curveball (throws it 16% of time), which has actually been hit very hard this year. That includes a .750 SLG and hitters have hit his curveball with an average exit velocity of 94.2-mph. The Brewers as a team saw a ton of curves from RHP this year (top 5 most in baseball which was partially because they weren't great against them). I would love to see Hiura get into a Buehler curveball tonight (although he'll probably see nearly exclusively high four-seamers). Buehler does throw the pitch that was sort of the Brewers' kryptonite this year, a sinker (Brewers SLG % against RH sinkers was worst in the league by .116 points below the next worst team), but it's among his least used pitches (9%).
  21. I agree with reilly’s assessment, and I expect the part about sitting in the weeds and waiting to see who doesn’t get a big multi-year offer to be the case again this year. Next year is Yelich’s last at $14 million (he jumps up to $26 million annually starting in 2022). I am hoping they use that opportunity to give a decent one year “prove it” contract to someone who doesn’t get the multi-year offers they desired. In that past couple of years we’ve seen that happen to players like Yasmani Grandal and Didi Gregorius (who the Brewers reportedly finished runner up to signing last offseason).
  22. Via Robert Murray: Daniel Vogelbach will be on the Brewers’ Wild Card roster. The complete Brewers Wild Card Roster should be announced later this morning, will post it here when it’s out. Here it is: Dodgers Wild Card roster doesn’t include Gavin Lux: Brewers Lineup
