  1. Well we have the answer to “how could this game get any worse?” after the Vogelbach apparent hamstring injury.
  2. The Brewers taking down the Dodgers in the 1st round may singlehandedly doom MLBs hope to expand to 16-team playoff for good. (But with the money involved, probably not)
  3. The announcers are talking like the Brewers are headed to LA. Might not want to count those chickens yet. Exactly! Yeah, I didn’t understand why they were talking like that.
  4. I learned my lesson counting down outs in last years NL Wild Card game.
  5. Padres pitcher is batting because their starting catcher was injured and they had to pull the DH and put Austin Nola in the at catcher.
  6. I do think the offense can put up runs against Gomber in the next couple of innings, it doesn’t hurt their chances that he might go 30+ minutes between pitches.
  7. Could be time to start following the Phillies and Giants games much closer.
  8. I don't see Hulk Hogan out there today. They talked about this on the Brewers radio broadcast on Thursday. Apparently the Cardinals staff moved them after every single home game this season.
  9. Gomber has been pretty good this year, but he is the type of pitcher I would expect Braun to do well against. Gomber throws his four seam fastball 54% of the time and his changeup only 5%. He also throws a curve and slider. The fastball profile without a strong changeup to back it up seems like the type of southpaw profile that Braun should be able to hit the ball hard against. I do get the feeling that for a win today the Brewers are going to have break their trend of typically scoring just 3 or less runs. I think they’ll need to find a way to score at least 5.
  10. ESPN’s Jeff Passan has all of the possibilities broken down in this article: Breaking down all the MLB playoff scenarios on the regular season's final (?) day Here is a section from the article specific to the Brewers scenarios...
  11. Luis Urias is in the lineup at 3B. I know he hasn’t looked great down the stretch with inconsistent playing time, but for his short MLB career he is slugging .505 against left handed pitchers (109 plate appearances vs LHP). He is probably the best option at 3B defensively with Brett Anderson on the mound, and obviously hoping he comes through with a big hit or two.
  12. The Brewers enter the final day of the regular season with a “win and you’re in” scenario for making the playoffs. They could still get in with a loss and some help (both Giants and Phillies would need to lose). Despite what felt like too many low points of this season, the Brewers are playing meaningful baseball until the very end. All MLB games start at nearly the same time (2 o’clock hour in the central time zone), this Brewers-Cardinals game is technically the last game to get underway with a scheduled 2:15pm first pitch. The Brewers offense is going to face a left-handed pitcher they’ve seen very little of in their careers (no one on the Brewers roster has had more than 2 at bats versus Gomber). Ryan Braun does have a home run against Gomber in one of his two plate appearances versus the lefty. Going off of track record the biggest Cardinals offensive threat against Brett Anderson appears to be Paul Goldschmidt. Over his 21 plate appearances versus Anderson, Goldschmidt is 9-for-17 with 2 home runs and 4 walks. Let’s hope the positivity train rolls right into the postseason! Go Brewers!
  13. Brett Anderson: Batter (Cardinals) vs Pitching Stats Austin Gomber: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  14. Brewers officially control whether or not they’ll make the playoffs. A win tomorrow and they’re in. They could still back into the playoffs with a loss as well (needing Giants and Phillies loses), but lets not let it get to that point.
  15. Gomber has been pretty dominant overall this year, mostly in relief. He’s only gave up 5 earned runs on the season (25 IP), but 4 of those came against the Pirates 9 days ago. His highest pitch count of the season was 76 in his last start (versus the Royals). Hopefully the Brewers can get to him earlier than that tomorrow.
  16. It was awesome that Grisham had the game winning 3-run home run to beat the Giants last night, this evening hasn’t gone quite as well for him (0-5 with 4 K’s)
  17. Not really, they are locked into the #4 playoff spot and hosting in the first round. That’s why they pulled Zach Davies after just 3 IP tonight.
