  1. Jerry Meals has had one of the more pathetic all around showings from an umpire that I can remember in sometime.
  2. Very encouraging start for Corbin Burnes tonight. He’s done a great job of limiting hard contact. Even in the 5th inning when the Indians strung together a couple of hits those two balls were put in play at 80.7 mph and 72.9 mph.
  3. It’s been pretty poor. Takes some of the enjoyment out of it when you have to hold your breath after every pitch wondering what it’s going to be called.
  4. No kidding, it seems like the Brewers have fallen victim to those types of “hits” all season.
  5. I have this strange feeling they‘ll turn it around this weekend and start playing much better. It’s either that, or gas.
  6. Heard this stat on the Effectively Wild podcast today and turns out it’s true... The Giants and the Brewers are currently both two games under .500 and are the first two teams out of the NL playoff picture. The Giants have 7 hitters in their regular lineup with a higher OPS+ than the Brewers best hitter’s OPS+. The Brewers best hitter in terms of OPS+, Christian Yelich, is actually currently tied with the Giants 7th highest mark (Brandon Crawford) at a 118 OPS+. The 6 other Giants hitters above Crawford/Yelich are as follows: Brandon Belt (183 OPS+) Mike Yastrzemski (176 OPS+) Alex Dickerson (140 OPS+) Donovan Solano (133 OPS+) Wilmer Flores (131 OPS+) Evan Longoria (127 OPS+) If you are wondering, Mauricio Dubon currently has an OPS+ of 83. Another Giants player, OF Austin Slater, has an OPS+ of 203, but is on the IL and has just 59 total plate appearances. The Giants currently being out of the playoff picture with a lineup that hot is sort of incredible.
  7. Some additional explanation from Adam McCalvy... Vogelbach will primarily get at-bats as the Brewers DH. First base will be a mix of players. Gyorko, Jace Peterson and even Keston Hiura will play first, per Craig Counsell. Re: Hiura at first base. He hasn't done any work there, so you won't see it imminently. Might not see it at all. But it's possible, as the Brewers consider all of the possibilities to get something out of this offense.
  8. I added this to the 2020 Lineup thread, but will share here as well. Counsell discussed the future of 1B playing time in his pregame press briefing today. Via Will Sammon... Counsell: Vogelbach's ABs will predominately come as DH. Gyorko will see action at 1B. Mentioned Peterson and Mathias as guys who could get innings there. Added Keston Hiura could see action there, too.
  9. Counsell mentioned Keston Hiura as someone that may see some time at 1B in his pregame press briefing today. Via Will Sammon... Counsell: Vogelbach's ABs will predominately come as DH. Gyorko will see action at 1B. Mentioned Peterson and Mathias as guys who could get innings there. Added Keston Hiura could see action there, too.
  10. Via TMZ Sports from 2016: SEATTLE MARINERS ROOKIE GETS CHRIS FARLEY TREATMENT... Chippendales Lives!
  11. It’s encouraging that the Brewers think highly enough of 2019 7th round selection Gabe Holt to add him to the player pool. He’s had limited game experience since turning pro, so this would seem to indicate the Brewers front office considers him a legitimate prospect.
  12. Corbin Burnes: Batter (Indians) vs Pitching Stats Carlos Carrasco: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  13. Dude, trademark that! 2021: “Daniel Vogelbach with another AmFam Clam Slam.”
  14. In case you develop the desire to watch 6-minutes worth of mostly "Vogel-bombs"...
  15. I don't think Vogelbach is any great upgrade over Smoak, and it is a definite downgrade defensively... BUT.... I would much rather give opportunities/ABs to hitters that are nearing the peak of their theoretical aging curve than those approaching their mid-30s trying to scratch out one more productive season.
  16. Yes. His first month was fantastic (1.195 OPS), and his first half overall was much, much better than his second half. Here were his 1st half/2nd half splits in 2019: [pre]Split G GS PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS 1st Half 85 76 341 277 49 66 11 0 21 51 0 61 79 .238 .375 .505 .881 2nd Half 59 53 217 185 24 30 6 0 9 25 0 31 70 .162 .286 .341 .626[/pre]
  17. [Not So] Fun Fact: Daniel Vogelbach currently trails Robin Yount by just two All Star Game selections.
  18. Someday we'll be able to utter the phrase, "Daniel Vogelbach, the biggest Cubs-killer of them all"
  19. Per Rosenthal: Brewers DFA Smoak, get Vogelbach, source tells The Athletic.
  20. Are there any corporate stadium logos others do like? From what I've seen most corporations want their logo to be unaltered (including color) and to serve as the clear centerpiece. Someone took a stab at it 6 years ago and did some cartoonish MLB stadium logos that were sort of fun: Redesigned MLB Stadium Logos (scroll down the page for the larger versions) If you liked those, here is the NFL stadium logos version. The designer that did those now works for a company that does actual team logos/branding. One real-life stadium logo that comes to mind for me as decent is the updated Petco Park logo...
