The Brewers now have the second best run differential (+36) in the National League behind only the Dodgers. -
I was just thinking something similar. All of the years they’ve struggled to get even average production from first base and shortstop, now suddenly they may have above average players at both of those positions.

One great underrated thing about the Adames trade is the Brewers flipped the other piece from the Rays (Trevor Richards) for Rowdy Tellez.

The trade involving Jake Cronenworth didn’t turnout to great either, but they have so much quality depth causing roster crowding that it doesn’t seem like losing a few trades is much of a concern at this point. They have such a unique operation, I find the Rays fascinating.

Adames now leads all shortstops with 6 home runs per Will Sammon.

Two on with no out and Mahle struggling with command… this would be a good inning to cash in for some runs.

Ever since his successful Opening Day start against the Braves, Reds starter Tyler Mahle has struggled. Here is his game log (note that it’s listed in reverse order with his most recent appearance at the top): The one thing that remains impressive is despite giving up 16 earned runs in his last 17.1 innings pitched, Mahle has yet to allow a single home run this season. Brewers that have performed particularly well against Tyler Mahle in the past include Willy Adames and Keston Hiura. Adames and Hiura are a combined 7-for-14 with 2 doubles and 3 home runs off of Mahle.

Reflecting on the Urias/Lauer trade with San Diego

The Lauer ascension is yet another example of how starting pitching development almost always takes time. The Brewers have had several pitchers struggle at some point early in their career as starters before becoming more reliably successful as they gained experience. That previously was the case with Jimmy Nelson, Brandon Woodruff, Freddy Peralta, Corbin Burnes, and Adrian Houser. The thing I’ve learned is that if the Brewers pitching development staff believes in a starter I probably should also. -
The thing that will forever remain confounding to me is the Cubs basically became a real estate development company while making little to no effort to stay relevant on the field during a period of time in which the path to competing with the Cardinals and Brewers really shouldn't have been overly daunting given their financial resources. Even in their trades they opted for talent that's years from making an impact at the MLB level. Unless they take a sharp course correction I have a hard time seeing them be relevant again until 2024 or beyond.

If Jace isn’t walking at a high clip his offensive value is going to remain fairly limited.

That’s one of the most elusive profiles in baseball which I think is part of the reason the Brewers have broken their mold to spend on CFs in free agency (Cain, Bradley Jr) and used first round draft picks (Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick). The organization appears to value centerfielders very highly.

Ugh, Renfroe let Stroman get away with a belt high 85-mph hanging slider right over the center of the plate in that at bat. If he had that one back I have a feeling this would be a 2-0 game.

I think the NL Central is the worst division in baseball by a bit of a margin. This has been a couple of years in the making where the clubs made very few moves focused on present day wins. The one club that did seem to make splashy “win now” type moves in the past three years, the Reds, have had the strategy mostly backfire under poor management. In addition to the NL Central being bad in the present, there isn’t a lot of close to the majors prospect talent expected to flood NL Central rosters in the near future. The Cardinals probably have the best “close to the majors” talent in Nolan Gorman, Juan Yepez, and Matthew Libratore. The Cubs have put together an impressive collection of low minors talent (especially hitters), but many of those players are considered high risk as they are still years away from the majors. The Pirates have by far the most depth of quality minor league talent on the horizon, but it’s fair to wonder how meaningful that impact talent will be if they can’t supplement it financially with a competitive roster around them. The Brewers under David Stearns don’t tend to prescribe to the “window theory” as was more the practice under his predecessor, so I don’t expect a lot of “all in” type moves to be coming for the Crew. Regardless, it seems like the NL Central truly is there for the taking over the next couple of years.

Back to back 10+ strikeout games for Lauer. Very impressive, per Will Sammon his career high in a game entering this season was 9.
