  1. Well, so as not to stack lefties. But clearly would have rather had Thames in that situation if you could pick. And Thames leads off with a double. Sigh.
  2. No matter how bleak things seemingly get one small bit of solace is knowing Grisham, Yelich, and Hiura should be three of the top four hitters in the lineup for the foreseeable future. That’s a solid starting point to build upon.

  4. What would you guess the success rate of such an attempt to be for someone with Ryan Braun’s present day speed? I would guess it’s much, much lower than swinging for a base hit.
  5. Ryan Braun drag bunting with two outs and no one on base in the 8th inning with a 2-run deficit. http://static.skaip.org/img/emoticons/180x180/f6fcff/manshrug.gif
  6. As much as I am usually reluctant to get on Counsell’s case (I don’t typically think managers are that important) I really think he mismanaged the use of Hader in that inning. It seemed like they rushed getting him ready, almost like he wasn’t expecting to pitch when the inning began. Just leave Albers in and have Hader start a clean 9th assuming Albers holds the lead.
  7. Hoping this one turns out better than the day game in San Diego when Grandal’s 7th inning 3-run home run gave the Brewers a two run lead that they ultimately blew after letting an infield pop-up fall between defenders at the pitchers mound. The Brewers lost 8-7 in what was one of the toughest losses to stomach this season. Let’s get a much better outcome tonight.
  8. [sarcasm]WE NEVER STOPPED BELIEVING IN THIS TEAM!!!![/sarcasm] Please, please hold on to this one.
  9. Somewhat surprisingly Piña and Grandal have had identical caught stealing percentages this season (coming into tonight) at 29%.
  10. I would have agreed last year, but coming into tonight Cain had a .309 OBP against LHPs this year (139 plate appearances). Ben Gamel has a .448 OBP versus LHP this year (58 plate appearances) and Grisham had pretty even lefty/righty splits in the minors.
  11. I think I would just pull Chase at this point and try for something bigger here. He’s only likely to go one more inning even by staying in here. EDIT: Or lay down a likely DP bunt so the Twins will commit an error.
  12. This will be the Brewers 39th game of 120 against LH starters, 32.5% of our games. Per BRef's league splits page, 1006 of 3560 games have bern started by LHP, 28.3% of all games. Which means to this point we've seen about 5 more LH starters than an average MLB team. One thing that is interesting about the NL Central is outside of the Cubs none of the other three opponents have had many starts from left-handed pitchers with the exception of 11 starts from Steven Brault (Pirates) and 3 starts from the previously injured Alex Wood (Reds).
  13. Yes, I meant “short on it’s bonus pool” as in a team that’s not using all of it’s allotted bonus pool money. If you were a team under your bonus pool budget I’m not sure what would stop you from negotiating with other teams senior selections made after the 11th round. I assume it’s a non-issue, but a seemingly strange loophole nevertheless.
