  1. Arcia throwing down his helmet after every at bat is starting to take on the same look as when I used throw my golf clubs. You have to maintain a certain baseline of success before you can get that upset over a likely outcome.
  2. On this date last year Yelich was still at a single digit home run total. He didn’t hit his 10th home run of the season until June 24th last year. Pretty incredible that he has kept up his second half surge and is now at 27 at the same point this year.
  3. If this road trip has done anything positive for my mental well-being, it’s that I am continuing to be more impressed with Adrian Houser.
  4. I think there are varying degrees of that theory. I would certainly never say MLB team X won’t trade with team Y, and I can’t think of any circumstances which would lead to that type of firm stance. I do think it is plausible that a front office would feel some pressure to “win the trade” if they are going to do repeat business with the team they just shipped away the league MVP to a year earlier, especially if it involves more high profile players. Maybe that thought is indeed a little out there and all of the executives now are able to robotically value players with zero consideration towards past results (not trying to be snide, this very well could be the case), but I also don’t think it shouldn’t be completely dismissed that the human element could seep into the back of their minds while evaluating offers from multiple teams. Ultimately are they most likely going to take what they deem is the best offer regardless of this history? I would assume yes. It is also probably a little premature to make any definitive conclusions regarding any of the players involved in the trade, including Yamamoto after two (very impressive) MLB starts. I genuinely hope Yamamoto continues his success, and would be perfectly fine with it being a trade which works out well for both sides over the long run.

  6. So I guess in the grand scheme of things it could be worse than stinking up a few games on the west coast.
  7. This is the toughest pill to swallow, IMO. It’s impossible to know if any of these game results would have been different, but at least you would have been giving yourself the best possible chance to score runs throughout these six games on the west coast, five of which were against left handed starting pitchers.
  8. [sarcasm]Corbin Burnes increasing his trade value by striking out the side.[/sarcasm]
  9. Trying to stay positive, but the offense has been so lifeless in San Diego that it’s hard to envision them scoring 3+ over the last three innings.
  10. It was a broken bat home run. A giant chunk of the bat shattered right off the barrel and he still hit it out with room to spare. It was sort of incredible.
  11. FanGraphs article on the Padres starter tonight, Logan Allen and His Inner Bulldog are Poised for a Padres Debut From that article: Hitters stepping into the box against Allen are going to see a low-90s four-seam fastball, a plus curveball, a slider he began throwing in 2017, and a Vulcan changeup...
  12. I think this was also mentioned in the minor league transaction thread, but since we had 100+ posts on the subject in this thread we will note it here... Brewers Release Brett Lawrie
  13. Brandon Woodruff: Batter (Padres) vs Pitching Stats Padres pitching prospect Logan Allen to make major league debut Tuesday vs. Brewers (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  14. I would take a Christian Yelich home run right now even if it means this game is going to go 17 innings tonight/this morning.
  15. Tonight was the longest scoreless outing of Lucchesi’s career. Hopefully not a sign of things to come facing two more lefty starters the next two days.
  16. Lucchesi’s season high pitch total is 100. He is at 97 as Aguilar steps in.
  17. Joey Lucchesi has been a slightly below replacement level pitcher both last year (-0.1 bWAR) and this year (-0.1 bWAR), but he sure is in complete control of this Brewers offense tonight.
  18. Well if they have any better options for that sort of situation let me Hiura it? speechless [sarcasm]Blame autocorrect[/sarcasm].
  19. Well if they have any possible better options for that sort of situation let me Hiura it?
  20. Isn’t Freddy Peralta lined up for a multi-inning outing tonight? Maybe they save him for later in the series, but I was under the impression he may pitch some innings today.
  21. That was a much needed 1-2–3 inning, hopefully the offense can show some signs of life now.
  22. Somewhat surprisingly, the Brewers have an .803 OPS versus lefties this year which is tied with the Braves for the 8th best mark in MLB. The Brewers also have 39 home runs off LHP which is 2nd best in MLB, just one home run shy of the Diamondbacks (40 HR vs. LHP). The Brewers are middle of the pack in how often they have faced LHP, for instance the D-backs have 114 more at bats this year against LHP which is likely due to playing in the southpaw heavy NL West. The Brewers have a .782 OPS versus RHP which ranks 12th highest in baseball.
  23. Good catch, I definitely misread that as being "short" rest the first time around. I didn't realize the Padres were doing an extra day of rest for starters this season.
