  1. Cain hasn’t played since Saturday (June 22nd), so if they decided to put him on the 10-day IL he would be eligible to return Wednesday, July 3rd vs. the Reds. They don’t have another off-day until the All Star Break, so playing shorthand for even a few days isn’t ideal.
  2. For those who haven’t clicked on the link of these Adam McCalvy tweets...
  3. Granted the samples are limited, but Gamel is hitting for a .781 OPS versus LHP this year (compared to .709 OPS vs. RHP). Cain has a .744 OPS against southpaws. I doubt that is the reason they would swap them, but found it at least interesting. More likely they are looking to give Cain some more time to heal up from the nagging things that seem to be ailing him. I am not sure what all of those things are and I know it’s incredibly difficult to decipher with Lorenzo, but he hasn’t seemed “right” for awhile now. Back to Gamel, it would be great to see him be a big contributor this week against his old squad.
  4. From Adam McCalvy's most recent Brewers.com Inbox article in regards to Brent Suter...
  5. FanGraphs article on Woodruff’s development and progression: Brandon Woodruff Rebuilt Himself as a Starter
  6. Zach Davies: Batter (Mariners) vs Pitching Stats Marco Gonzales: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  7. The Dodgers are 34-9 at Dodger Stadium this season. Two of those nine loses were to the Brewers. The Brewers are the only visiting team to have won a series at Dodger Stadium this season.
  8. In hindsight, Mike Minor would have been an excellent acquisition this off-season. The Rangers now sit at 42-36 and don’t look like sellers unless things go south over the next month. It would be fascinating to know the details of the offer and how close this really was to happening. There is no doubt Minor’s trade value is quite a bit higher now than it was this past off-season.
  9. All of the teams in the NL Central have a losing road record this season, and the last place Pirates actually have the best road record of the group. It is the only division in baseball that doesn’t have a single team with a winning record away from home.
  10. I guess I missed this (LINK) a few weeks ago, but it appears Brent Suter has been throwing bullpen sessions since May and is on pace for a return to the mound in late July or early August. I assume he would have a lengthy set of minor league rehab appearances, but it’s nice to know there is a possibility he could be throwing meaningful pitches for the big league club this season.
  11. The 5 straight losses to the Pirates prior to the All-Star break last year is certainly what resonates with everyone, but at the start of August last year (Aug. 1 to Aug. 18) the Brewers lost 10 of 15 games. I won’t argue that they’ve been playing great baseball lately, but they haven’t done anything worth proclaiming the “pennant lost” at this point.
  12. Looks like someone saw the scoreboard in Milwaukee and said, “hold my beer”... @BriggsMissions: Missions infielder Keston Hiura hits an opposite-field homer for a grand slam in the T2 at Omaha. It's his 18th homer of the season and his second slam. Missions lead 6-0. And it’s actually his 23 HR of the season if you count his MLB plate appearances.
  13. Orlando Arcia being on pace for a 20+ home run season may be the most convincing evidence to date that the ball is juiced.
  14. Nice to see the Brewers produce a run in that manner (Braun steal of 3B, Thames deep sac fly). Everyone seems to be contributing today.
  15. He isn’t over-swinging either, his forearm strength and wrists seem to be doing all of the work.
  16. I would like to amend my previous statement. The entire Reds roster may be, upon further review, trash. They are expected to be big spenders in the free agency this off-season (only $58 million committed for next season), although I am not sure how well the available free agents fit their areas of need. I could see them making a run at Yasmani Grandal.
  17. Have to give Moose credit, that was a nice DP turn for a player who has started just 38 games at 2B throughout his major league career.
  18. The “joke” probably wasn’t that funny in hindsight, but it certainly wasn’t meant as a dismissal of Woodruff’s hitting ability. I want Shaw to turn it around as much as anyone, but watching him right now it’s hard not to get the feeling his swing timing and vision are just a total mess.
  19. Per Adam McCalvy: Adrian Houser will start Wednesday against the Mariners in Jimmy Nelson's spot. Also from Adam McCalvy: Adrian Houser will be on a pitch count Wednesday against the Mariners, but it’s not just a spot start. He’s in line for two starts before the break.
  20. It seems like we could use a little refresher of how this works for those patronizing this specific thread, so here you go...
  21. Jesús Aguilar is out of the lineup again as probably expected, but he has had some success against DeSclafani in the past (4-for-11, HR). When you only have 25 rosters spots and no DH it is extremely difficult to justify carrying a 1B only bench bat. They are going to have some tough decisions to make in the near future regarding Aguilar. Overall, I like the lineup shuffle. [sarcasm]Hopefully Woodruff’s bat protecting Shaw can help him get going.[/sarcasm]
