  2. Two months to go and this has the makings of a fun race! Post Trade Deadline National League Division and Wild Card Standings below: Division Standings Wild Card Standings
  3. Just curious, did anyone see comments or sentiments attributed to Jonathan Villar after the trade? Obviously a tough situation to get shipped into a long rebuild, but realized I hadn’t heard any comments about Villar receiving the news.
  4. Gotta have somebody play 2b... Yeah, it’s Schoop. Thanks, I fixed the typo. But to be fair, we’ve been told traditional infield roles don’t apply to the Brewers anyway.
  5. Jonathan Schoop just left a team sitting at 43 games below .500 and is joining a team 16 games over .500 that is tied for 1st place in the NL. That seems like a decent upgrade on his season outlook.
  6. Here comes a two page debate about whether it was gone or not. Regardless, a nice catch by Cain which made staying up late worth it.
  7. I am going to admit it... I had no idea Moose was as solid of a defensive 3B as he has looked so far.
  8. Aguilar with a close call there. Would have been really nice for him to have gotten that one to drop fair.

  10. Maybe it’s silly, but I am buying into the Kevin Gausman “change of scenery” narrative. I think he is going to do very well in Atlanta.
  11. From the Pirates beat reporter, Rob Biertempfel, it sounds fairly certain to be another of their top prospects...
  12. I think I would have rather trusted Villar to hit against lefties going forward, something he has done well this year and in 2016 (but not 2017), and gone after a catcher upgrade instead. In my opinion, Wilson Ramos would have been a better offensive addition than Schoop, although I do like the possibilities that come with having the extra year of control for Schoop. I don't hate the trade, but I certainly don't love it. I think Ortiz is going to be a mid-rotation major league starter and I wouldn't have been surprised if Carmona had developed into a top five prospect in the Brewers system in two more years down the road. I certainly don't mind using them as trade assets, but I don't know if this is the trade I would have pulled the trigger on. Now that the trade is done, I do kind of wish we would have added a Tigers player so we could have been responsible for weakening every single team in the AL Central outside of the Indians.
  13. Thought all that stuff had to be done by the deadline? It does need to be done. Late to the thread, but noticed this. My understanding is physicals are only done for free agents. I believe trades are approved based on the medical information/records on the players being shared via a central database overseen by the league office. I don't know if that is 100% accurate, but I know deadline trades aren't subject to actual physicals being conducted.
  14. I think sweeping the Brewers over that five games series heading into the All-Star Break may ultimately cost the Pirates more than it gained them.

  16. I must be getting delirious, I started falling asleep and I thought they were getting excited on the broadcast about a Manny Piña triple. Oh, wow... it really happened!
  17. Big trade acquisition for the Pirates. They get reliever Keone Kela from the Rangers. Kela is under control through the 2021 season. Initial MLB Trade Rumors story... Update: Pirates pitching prospect Taylor Hearn was announced as one of the PTBNL. Hearn is generally regarded as a player in the back half of the Pirates top 10 prospects. Sounds like the other player should be announced today. Both players were initially announced as PTBNL because the teams weren’t able to notify them of the trade in the middle of the night.
  18. Yeah, I just watched that. I stand corrected, they got it right.
  19. I don’t think I realized how good Derek Holland has been this year. His peripherals are solid and he is striking out just over a batter an inning as a starter. Good for him to get things turned around heading into free agency this off-season. If the Giants really are dealing McCutchen I have to assume they would move Holland as well.
  20. The only possible answer I can think of is that replay had views that ESPN didnt....??? Well I was watching on Fox Sports, and they definitely didn’t have a convincing angle.
  21. That reversed call on Cain at first is very likely the single worst reversed replay call I have seen to this point. He never came close to touching him, what could they have possibly thought they saw on that? I mean you would have to basically be guessing that somehow the split second you couldn’t see the glove it magically touched the runner. I just don’t know what convincing evidence they could possibly think they had there?
  22. Since he was down three runs I don’t think pitching to Piña was going to get him the win regardless.
