  3. Here is an Article Link regarding the concern over Eric Thames’ thumb. He is scheduled to get an MRI today.
  4. Craig Counsell confirms there is “some concern regarding Eric Thames thumb injury”. He said it is a ligament issue on his glove hand, but didn’t elaborate other than repeating there is “some concern”.

  6. I am always up for the Community Mock Draft, but understand if it would be a little too deep and time consuming this year. Every year the draft is a crapshoot, but trying to predict this year’s draft seems even more volatile than usual. The MLB Draft is one of my favorite baseball events each year, so I would be happy to help with whatever is decided. Here are a few ideas if we decide to forego the standard Community Mock Draft: 1) Find a few posters (5-10) that can be available over a smaller timeframe near the draft and assign 2-4 selections each for a first round mock draft. 2) Anyone that wants to participate can list their own individual first round mock draft predictions. 3) Have everyone predict a few items such as who will go #1-#5, who their favorite hitter and pitcher is in the draft, and who they think the Brewers will select. Could also have everyone select the three best players they think will be available at the Brewers selection. Just a few thoughts, hard to believe the draft is only six weeks away already.
  7. They have former 2015 Brewers draft selection, SS/3B Jonathan India, going #18 overall. India has had an exceptional season for the Florida Gators this year including a 1.391 OPS through 40 games.
  8. Has anybody taken note of how impressive Jed Lowrie has been so far this season? I would say there is nearly 100% chance Lowrie is going to get traded this season. IMO, he would be an excellent upgrade over Eric Sogard’s roster spot.
  9. It's still early going but I don't think this stat is a coincidence. Well 9-2 with Yelich in the starting lineup now, and 6-1 in games started by all three of Cain, Yelich, and Braun. Yes, I know many of these games have been against bad teams, but it's still nice to see the early success when the core players are healthy and in the lineup.
  10. I don’t think it was a catch either. His glove never stopped moving and the ball flung out of it. When they clarified a couple of years ago I thought it was more focused on not costing someone a catch after they had clearly secured it and were trying to transfer the ball to their throwing hand.
  11. I just don't understand all of the Sogard hate. He was a .393 obp guy with good defense in 299 PA last year. That's a 1.9 bWAR player in half a full seasons worth of PAs. And I'm not trying to single out you, it seems to be a lot of people around here. I'm willing to give him some more time. What I am concerned with is Santana, after a terrible spring, he has one XBH on the season and doesn't seem to be a regular starter now that we're back at full strength. Is this how it's gonna be for him? Basically a bench bat for the season? Take one crazy month out of his stats and see where they are. He was terrible outside of that month. He plays decent defense but to expect any production from him offensively is grasping at strings. Edit: One reason I tolerate Villar more is upside. He may find that speed power combo. Sogards upside is so blah. He will never hit for power or steal bases consistently. He is just limited in tools. He has to be a OBP monster just to be sort of relevant. Sogard’s OBP since July of last season is just .309 with only 8 extra base hits and 0 home runs (over 188 plate appearances). That includes last night’s “double” that should have been an error. Edit: And does not include the strikeout he just recorded.
  12. With the Brewers heading to Kansas City this week it will be our first chance this season to see the lineup using a DH. Assuming the return of Manny Pina and Orlando Arcia here is a potential lineup with the DH... 1. Lorenzo Cain ® CF 2. Christian Yelich (L) RF 3. Ryan Braun ® LF 4. Travis Shaw (L) 3B 5. Eric Thames (L) 1B 6. Jesus Aguilar ® / Domingo Santana ® DH 7. Manny Pina ® C 8. Jonathan Villar ® 2B 9. Orlando Arcia ® SS
  13. The Marlins starting pitcher, LHP Caleb Smith, has some loose Brewers ties. Smith was taken by the Brewers in the 2016 Rule 5 draft and then traded to the Cubs. He was ultimately returned to the Yankees. He pitched in nine games for the Yankees last season including two starts. This past offseason he was traded to the Marlins along with Garrett Cooper in exchange for RHP Michael King and international bonus pool money. Smith still has prospect eligibility. In the Baseball America Prospect Handbook he was listed as a relief pitcher and did not rank within the Marlins top 30 prospects. While the sample size is relatively small, left handed batters have had success against Smith. Here are his splits versus RHB and LHB...

  17. Well this team appears to be having some fun right now... VIDEO via Brewers Tweet.
  18. The Brewers are 7-2 in games Christian Yelich has started. In those games they have scored 7 or more runs four times. Among the 12 games Yelich did not play in the Brewers never scored more than 5 runs.
  19. For those who may have missed Arcia’s ankle injury here is a Tweet that includes the video.
  20. According to Counsell regarding Arcia’s injury, “the X-rays were negative” which is obviously positive news. Sounds like we won’t know the severity of the likely sprained ankle until tomorrow.
  21. So I still wasn’t worried here with the bases loaded until Counsell just waved on Oliver Drake. Time to buckle up.
  22. Are you kidding me. Man, in an 8-0 game. This team seems snake bit with the injuries. I assume it is a sprain, but obviously the severity could be within a wide range of outcomes.
