  1. Sprintin' Todd Coffey is reportedly fully recovered from Tommy John surgery and looking for a team to sign with. Come on Indians, it's Coffey-time!
  2. Selection #10 - New York Mets Nick Gordon, SS, Olympia HS (Florida) Gordon slid a little here, and he is just too talented (not to mention good bloodlines) for the Mets to pass up at 10. He fills their system with a rare HS kid that may actually stick at SS. If he doesn't, he has a potential career on the mound to fall back on. Other enticing selections here were Bradley Zimmer and Touki Toussaint. I have been down on Toussaint until recently when the latest reports have his control improving on what is possibly the top three pitch repertoire (fastball, curveball, change) in the draft.
  3. I have done the same and haven't heard back in a few days. I am going to make a selection on his behalf and hope he can join us for his next pick.
  4. Kiley McDaniel posted his updated Draft Rankings: Overall Top 116. One added feature of his list is it includes the current age of players, which can vary as much as a year or more among HS seniors, for example Brady Aiken (17.8 years old) vs. guys such as Sean Reid-Foley (18.8), Luis Ortiz (18.7), and Foster Griffin (19.0).
  5. colbyjack, any update on Weaver's velocity this Spring? I know his FB was sitting high-80's to low-90's earlier in the Spring, but haven't heard more recent updates. It seems like both Weaver and Brandon Finnegan have an above average likelihood of becoming relievers at the professional level. Maybe that includes some bias against their size showing through, but I would be somewhat concerned if the Brewers took either one with their first selection.
  6. As a young Brewers fan I remember reading a story in the game program about Molitor playing every position except pitcher and catcher which instantly made me root for him to get put in at pitcher for an inning.
  7. Selection #1 - Houston Astros Carlos Rodon, LHP, North Carolina State Selection Breakdown: I felt a lot more confident in this selection two months ago. But while Rodon has certainly struggled at times this Spring, he still flashes the ability to be a top of the rotation arm (see 15 SO effort last Friday vs. Georgia Tech). When on, Rodon still possesses a mid-90s fastball, and a slider that looks at times like it belongs on a MLB mound right now. I do really like HS guys like Aiken and Kolek, but ultimately if Rodon maintains his health he still appears to be the best bet of the group right now to be a major league starter. That isn't to say those other guys won't eventually pass him, but they are simply too far away right now to justify passing up on Carlos Rodon.
  8. Well it is May 1st, and officially time to begin our BF.net Mock Draft. As we make selections I will update the original post to reflect the results. At the minimum post your pick selection when your pick comes up. Try to post your selection within a day after the pick before you being made, but we won't skip anyone ("auto-pick") unless it has been a full 2-3 days since the previous selection. Any brief description of reasons why you made a specific selection are certainly welcome also. Comments on picks are ok as well, but the in-depth 1st round prospect discussion should still take place in the dedicated thread, Brewers 1st Rd Speculation & Draft Prospects. And now lets begin the 2014 BF.net MLB Mock Draft.
  9. Here is another note on the Brewers bullpen from Baseball Prospectus before last night's game:
  10. I am afraid when I fall asleep tonight, my dreams are going to look something like this... http://giant.gfycat.com/GrizzledMisguidedLcont.gif
  11. Tyrone Taylor raised his batting average by .065 in two days. Very impressive gain considering he is almost 100 AB's into the season. Nice to see him have a couple of breakout games in Brevard.
  12. +1. If I could make one upgrade to Miller Park, this would be it. Watching games from a well placed centerfield camera is infinitely more enjoyable for me.
  13. Gallardo shaking his right hand after that slide isn't exactly encouraging.
  14. Coming into tonight's game, the Brewers are five times through the rotation. Obviously the pitching all around has been very good in the first month of the season. My question is which Brewers starter would you be most confident in sending to the mound in a playoff elimination game this season (i.e. Wild Card game or Game 7 of the World Series)? All starters have looked solid to start this year, but none appears to be head-and-shoulders above the rest. I tend to lean toward trusting Lohse to give a great effort if the season were on the line, but he certainly isn't the most physically gifted of the group. Seems like a special intangible is required to give a great effort when everything is riding on it. Who would you be most confident in with the season in the balance? Here is look at some of the rotation stats five games in (via Fangraphs): http://i58.tinypic.com/jqq1q0.jpg
  15. Looks like a 15-13 month to me as well. Will be happy with anything that keeps them at the top of the division into June.
  16. On the final minute of the Fringe Average podcast from last week they mentioned 150 tickets were sold for the event. Also mentioned that Klement's is hooking them up with sausage for the event. Getting excited for it!
  17. Do you have a better lineup idea with Braun and Segura out? Could have gone this route...
  18. Good Question. Posters can make their pick earlier if they are ready. The one day limit isn't strict, but is more of a guide. I am planning to message those who are "on the clock" when I can since I figure not everyone will immediately notice they are up. I figure it will have some ebbs and flows in that a few picks may be made in a single day, and then a day or two goes by until the next pick. Quite honestly it is all kind of an experiment this year, and hoping we can continue it and improve on it for future years. If anyone has suggestions before we start on Thursday or as we go, I am certainly open to them.
  19. What was amazing was how utterly blatant it was, the Red Sox bench was just standing at the edge of the dugout in disbelief. It was certainly blatant, especially coming off a start where everyone knew he had Pine Tar on his hand. Still, I was a little surprised the Red Sox actually complained about it considering the Red Sox pitchers received some accusations of doctoring the ball last year, and this is Jon Lester during last year's World Series. http://coedbc.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/lester-glove-green.jpg http://coedbc.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/10457715163_c952bdd02c_o.gif Also, here is a good BP podcast with Dirk Hayhurst from earlier this week about pitchers doctoring the baseball. Hayhurst is the one who called out Clay Buchholz last year for doctoring the baseball with a substance on his forearm last year. And here is Hayhurst's Major League Pitcher's Guide to Doctoring a Baseball as mentioned in the above podcast.
  20. The amount of mistakes this team has somehow overcome to win games these past few days is incredible. It is like the universe just won't let them lose.
  21. Every time I watch him pitch, I am more thankful Will Smith is likely to be Brewer for the remainder of this decade.
