  1. Christian Yelich playing left field is becoming Khris Davis level’s of maddening.
  2. Josh Hader prior to June 7th: Josh Hader since June 7th:
  3. Update with three more batters faced last night (15 batters faced over last 3 outings): Walk Single Hit By Pitch Walk Strikeout Walk Sac Fly (Lineout) Hit By Pitch Walk Sac Fly (Lineout) Single Lineout Walk Single (Hader throwing error for extra bases) Home Run After giving up the home run last night you could see a kid in a Padres City Connect jersey among those aggressively booing him as he walked off the mound. The second night in a row he’s been booed by the home crowd, and it’s legitimately becoming a tough scene to watch. I can’t remember a player going so quickly from “fan favorite” of one organization to this level of disliked by another fan base. Maybe Joey Gallo is a slight parallel, but even that wasn’t this rapid.
  4. I think some of his struggles probably have to do with his different release point this season (much higher vertically) creating a easier angle for hitters to pick up his pitches, and also possibly contributing to his frequent loss of command and control. While it sounds like it should be an easy fix, I assume it’s probably a little difficult in the middle of a season to just alter your release point and maintain it consistently with all of your pitches. The Brewers have seemingly been at the leading edge of many recent pitching trends and advances including the role arm angles play in generating deception, movement, and seam shifted wake. At the very least I do wonder if the Brewers pitch data for Hader this season was setting off alarm bells to the point they believed he’d continue to struggle for the remainder of the season.
  5. In Josh Hader’s last two outings he’s faced 12 batters. It’s gone as follows: Walk Single Hit By Pitch Walk Strikeout Walk Sac Fly (Lineout) Hit By Pitch Walk Sac Fly (Lineout) Single Lineout On the bright side no extra base hits, but yeah that’s pretty rough. The walk last night was on 4-pitches with the bases already loaded.
  6. With the exception of Willy Adames, the hitters on the Brewers current roster have actually had quite a bit of success against Wainwright for their careers.
  7. The Brewers have pulled within 0.5 games of the division lead entering a stretch now where they have 10 of their next 13 games against the Cardinals and Dodgers. Who ever wins the series in St. Louis this weekend will be leading the division on Monday.
  8. I think this first part is true since they basically have a monopoly on the local sponsorship and advertising dollars for live sports entertainment. Also, Kyle Glaser of Baseball America pointed out that San Diego is the 8th largest city in the US and with the surrounding area it’s the 16th largest market size in terms of metro area. He also pointed out they have 5 very wealthy communities within driving distance of Petco and their market numbers don’t include those beyond the border into Tijuana. Glaser said while if you go deeper into Mexico the Dodgers have the stronger support, the population near the boarder is very pro-Padres.
  9. Sigh, yet another game that slipped away. I’ve stayed mostly positive over the past week, but I’m losing faith in them holding things together over this upcoming stretch against quality teams. At this point all I ask is if they are indeed going to miss the playoffs just make it a complete tank and lose enough games to the point where you can use September to start to form next year’s roster versus leaving a sliver of hope alive to the very end only to inevitably fall short.
  10. Those are the teams that ground into the fewest. It reads fewest to most.
  11. Possibly only the Blue Jays, but I’m guessing they have a lot more baserunners than the Brewers in the first place.
  12. Believe it or not there are 5 teams that have hit into more… https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/grounded-into-double-plays-per-game
  13. If they don’t walk it off here I like their chances in extras since they haven’t even used Williams or Hader yet.
