  1. Mariners not shy about unloading the very top of their farm system for Castillo. I think 18-year old Edwin Arroyo has a shot at becoming a very good prospect for the Reds.
  2. Via Ken Rosenthal the return for Castillo…
  3. Thanks for putting the effort into the spreadsheet, that’s a helpful snapshot of where they’re at currently. I think last year they would’ve been into the overage tax had they gotten Roc Riggio to sign (which I still maintain they signaled having realistic hopes of doing so by taking him the 11th round).
  4. I think that’s close, but maybe slightly light. I am convinced the Nationals are going to get at least one controllable major league player (or minor league player with MLB experience) as part of the return for Soto. Sort of thinking along the lines of Carlson or Gorman (Cardinals), Lux (Dodgers), Kelenic (Mariners), Abrams (Padres). While I think the Brewers are obviously an extreme long shot, I think their most likely package to get a deal done would be the above (Chourio, Wiemer, Frelick, Kelly) with Aaron Ashby swapped in place of Ethan Small. Yes, I realize Ashby just signed an extension and is unlikely to get traded, but we’re dreaming about acquiring Juan Soto here.
  5. Looking at Laureano’s home runs this season his swing seems geared towards AmFam Field. He has hit 16 balls that would’ve been over the wall in Milwaukee, but his season total is at just 10 HR (yes I realize half his games would be away).

  7. Laureano is actually still arbitration eligible for three years after this season. The lost service time from his PED suspension resulted in him being under team control for an additional season.

  9. They aren’t all smooth sailing for Woody, but he’s fun to watch when he’s locked in.
  10. EDIT: Since the initial post went up the Red Sox have replaced Brayan Bello with left handed relief pitcher Austin Davis. Davis hasn’t gone more than 2.0 IP in a game this year, so this appears to be an opener situation.
  11. Reminder that today’s game is available exclusively on YouTube: I’ll be attending today’s game, so if someone could post the lineups when they’re available that would be appreciated!
  12. Oops, I missed this post before commenting. Looks like you covered it already, seems likely someone among that pool is on the move.

  14. Notable players that will be Rule 5 Draft eligible this coming December if they aren’t added to the 40-man roster: Brice Turang Felix Valerio Antonie Kelly Cam Devanney Thomas Dillard Abner Uribe Joe Gray Jr. Tristan Lutz Micah Bello Victor Castaneda Cam Robinson Taylor Floyd Carlos Rodriguez (OF) Justin Jarvis Eduardo Garcia I think it’s likely we see someone from that list traded this week. Also, 40-man roster guys who aren’t on the active roster are possibilities such as Ethan Small, Keston Hiura, and Mario Feliciano,

  16. What about the Marlins as a trade partner? They’ve fallen to 6 games under .500 and are solidly in 4th place in a touch division. The Brewers have made a couple of trades with the Marlins since Kim Ng took over their baseball operations. Here are some potentially reasonable targets: Utility player options that can cover shortstop include left handed hitting Joey Wendle and to a lesser extent the right handed hitting Jon Berti. The Brewers clearly like players with positional flexibility (see Jace Peterson). Wendle as a rental would likely cost less than Berti who has a few years of team control remaining. 1B/DH types obviously include former Brewers Garrett Cooper who can play both first base and possibly an outfield corner in addition to fan favorite Jesus Aguilar. Cooper has one year remaining of team control after this one. On the pitching side there are a some intriguing bullpen options, but possibly no better fit than LHRP Steven Okert who has been dominant the past two years and was previously drafted [but not signed] by the Brewers on two different occasions.
  17. For his career Charlie Blackmon has hit Eric Lauer very well with an overall line of 11-for-20 including 3 doubles and 2 home runs. The Crew hitter that’s proven to be a Kuhl customer is Willy Adames (3-for-5 with a double). On the other end of the spectrum is Kolten Wong and his lifetime 1-for-15 line against Chad Kuhl.
  18. Ureña’s July stint with the Rockies has gone a bit better than his April with the Brewers. He’s started three games for the Rockies and has gone 6 or more innings in each appearance. Overall he has 18.2 IP and just 3 earned runs (1.45 ERA) over those three starts. Back in April he threw just a total of 7.2 IP over 4 relief appearances with the Brewers.
  19. Brewers draft Aiden Maldonado who they previously drafted in the 38th round in 2018. He played for both Illinois and Minnesota out of the Big Ten. So far it doesn’t seem like the Brewers have selected anyone that will require a large over-slot deal to sign.
