  1. RE: Peralta… hopefully the Brewers use of discomfort is closer to Rowdy Tellez’s knee “discomfort” from last week than it is John Axford’s elbow “discomfort” from two weeks ago. It does seem like they coin pretty much everything discomfort in-game, and we usually find out more a day or two later. Hoping Counsell says it’s believed to be minor in the post-game presser.
  2. The easiest way to view the magic number against all MLB teams in real-time is through this website: Playoff Magic
  3. The Brewers facing Jack Flaherty is one time when I miss Ryan Braun and his career 8-for-20 with 2 doubles, 4 HR, and 3 BB against Flaherty. The best current Brewers hitter against Flaherty has been Christian Yelich (8-for-25, 1 double, 2 HR, 3 BB). ————————————————

  5. The Brewers have now thrown an MLB leading 15 shutouts this season.
  6. The Padres are in the midst of quite the free fall against some bad teams lately.
  7. Brewers have outhit the Cardinals 14-4 tonight. Hopefully the rest of the series they have more to show for it on nights with 14 hits (and 17 hitters reaching base).
  8. I was about to type the same thing about my heart skipping a beat. That was way too close to disaster for what should’ve been the easiest throw of the night.
  9. Devin Williams didn’t look completely right earlier this season… But more recently he seems a lot like the pitcher we watched in 2020 is back on the mound.
  10. Doesn’t look like Edman is picking up Williams’ changeup at all.
  11. Williams pitching in his hometown in a huge situation. Come on Devin!
  12. Would’ve been nice to scratch across an insurance run. I have confidence in the bullpen, but I’ve also seen this devil magic show one too many times.
  13. So the Reds aren’t going undefeated against the Cubs and Pirates after all!
  14. The Cubs Codi Heuer (acquired from the White Sox in the Kimbrel trade) is going for the two inning save it appears.
  15. I wonder who the Cubs “closer” is currently? I’m not sure if they’ve had a save situation since they traded Kimbrel.
  16. Just catching up on tonight’s game. Would it be fair to say the Brewers have missed some opportunities for this game to be a larger deficit?
  17. I put this in the major league section because David Dahl played in 63 games for the Rangers this season, and he is one of those players I can’t bring myself to stop believing in even though the evidence says I probably should. Still just 27 years old, it seems worth the chance to make a longshot bet on a late 20’s breakout.
  18. Per Will Sammon: Brewers signed OF David Dahl to minor-league contract.
  19. In the 98 combined career plate appearances the current Brewers hitters have against Adam Wainwright they’ve never hit a home run. Today would be a good day to change that. On the other side, Burnes has been excellent against the Cardinals hitters (.214 BA / .240 OBP), but he has allowed 5 home runs in 87 combined plate appearances for these Cardinals batters. ———————————————————————

  21. Here’s where I’m at currently: If the unlikely series of events occurs that would cause the Brewers to miss the playoffs, then there is a high likelihood I’ll be ready to see the Brewers season end at that point.
  22. I typically use this website to follow the draft order, but they also have a page that breaks down remaining strength of schedule: MLB Strength of Schedule (Tankathon) The Brewers are listed as having the 6th toughest remaining schedule in MLB (4th in the NL). I like that the site lists out each team’s six remaining games against the toughest opponents and there are a lot of Brewers logos throughout that page for other teams.
  23. Eric Lauer sounded really surprised (and a little annoyed) he was removed after only 4 innings. Said he didn’t think it was the plan, but they thought he “was breathing a little heavy” but then he admitted he does still have congestion and a burning feeling when he breaths.
  24. The Brewers are 25 games over .500 on August 15th.
