  1. I still think that award goes to the 4-game series in Philly earlier this season, but this one is certainly a contender.
  2. Miguel Sanchez has now pitched a scoreless inning in 6 of his last 7 appearances. Yesterday’s outing was the outlier among his recent success.
  3. I didn’t think the Giants were a more talented team than the Brewers coming into this series, and nothing I’ve seen in the past three days has changed my opinion. The Brewers sort of their own worst enemy the past two days, and kudos to the Giants for taking advantage of the extra opportunities they were given.
  4. The mental and physical errors from the Brewers the past week haven’t been a lot of fun to watch. Giving away outs on defense, and now giving up outs on offense.
  5. Yeah, which is why I said I wasn’t suggesting either would replicate Pomeranz’s success, just that the sample remains small thus far.
  6. Here is a sample of what we were saying in the IGT about Drew Pomeranz during his 5th appearance with the Brewers on August 13, 2019… At that point Pomeranz had gone 5 appearances, 6.0 IP, 5 hits, 4 walks, and 4 earned runs while having a .979 OPS against. After that he went 20 appearances, 20.1 IP, 11 hits, 4 walks, and just 3 earned runs while having a .443 OPS against. I’m not suggesting either will turn into Pomeranz, but I think we need to give these guys a little more leeway before we make any definitive conclusions, especially in the case of Curtiss who has been the victim of some awful defensive blunders.
  7. All things considered, pretty good job to limit the damage that inning. I think it’s a little premature to declare the deadline bullpen acquisitions a bust at this point.
  8. And its the routine plays that seem to be his nemesis Yes, given the luxury of taking his time to make the throw it’s like his entire technique falls apart. Just throw everything with your hair on fire, I guess.
  9. Seems like a lot of times when Urias does the take-your-time, exaggerated side arm throw at shortstop is when the ball sails 12+ feet in the air.
  10. Wow, Narvy got all of that one. Edit: After watching how truly bad Narvaez looked last season it has been a pleasure to watch him be the exact opposite this season.
  11. Definitely keeps hitters off balance. As weird as this sounds, I think Cueto’s occasionally extra delayed delivery might allow Yelich to time his swing mechanics better than he has been the majority of this year [and last]. I feel like Yelich is going to get ahold of one against Cueto. Also, it’s something Ethan Small does a fair amount of (albeit not the body twisting part), so we’ll likely see a lot more of that varied timing technique soon.
  12. 8 of the 9 players in the Brewers lineup will swing from the left-side while facing Johnny Cueto. If you’re wondering (because I was), Johnny Cueto has nearly identical platoon splits over the course of his career (.691 OPS for RHH, .700 OPS for LHH, a sample of nearly 8,500 plate appearances.
  13. At least on paper it appears there should be some runs scored early in this one. Current Giants hitters career line versus Brett Anderson (91 plate appearances): .328 BA / .422 OBP / .485 SLG Current Brewers hitters career line versus Johnny Cueto (80 plate appearances): .299 BA / .344 OBP / .470 SLG
  14. Brett Anderson: Batter (Giants) vs Pitching Stats Johnny Cueto: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Giants-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Giants-Brewers
  15. I don’t think Sal Romano is long for this team. He’ll be remembered about as fondly as someone like 2019 Alex Wilson.
  16. I wish I had a little more confidence in Romano. Sal Romano is the 59th player to appear for the Brewers this season… that’s so incredible.
  17. My lone Reds related comment for the night is anyone that thinks tonight’s game has been a rollercoaster should checkout a compilation of the Reds late innings losses suffered this year.
