  1. Jim Bowden wrote an article for The Athletic predicting the NL All Star team. He has 3 Braves starting position players. He also has one position player from every team in the NL Central also starting the game, except for the Brewers. He doesn’t have any Brewers position player as either starting or bench players for the game. In fact in addition to the 9 starting position players (counting a DH) and 11 bench players, he also has a list of 6 position players who “just missed” inclusion, and he doesn’t have any Brewers among that group either. So basically no Brewers among the top 26 NL position player candidates. On the pitching side he has four Brewers included as making the group of 11 NL pitchers for the All Star Game: Corbin Burnes, Josh Hader, Freddy Peralta, Brandon Woodruff
  2. Per Will Sammon: On Travis Shaw, Craig Counsell said rehabbing it is the course of action recommended and suggested August for possible return. Per Sophia Minnaert: Travis Shaw will try to rehab his left shoulder until around August. He will work to get the shoulder strong and healthy to see how it feels playing.
  3. Brewers record versus each division opponent thus far: 6-3 vs. Cubs 4-2 vs. Reds 3-3 vs. Cardinals 1-2 vs. Pirates Hopefully by the end of the weekend the Brewers are back to even (or better) against the Pirates.
  4. For as much grief was given over the Brewers trading Trent Grisham, the Cardinals have had their share of guys that have exploded onto the scene after leaving their system in the past few years, including Luke Voit, Randy Arozarena, Zac Gallen, Sandy Alcantara, Carson Kelly, and Adolis Garcia.
  5. The Cubs (and Brewers) current winning percentage of .565 projects for 91.5 wins over the course of a 162-game season. Certainly good, but not that much above what was expected to be necessary to win the NL Central. Good luck to your Cardinals this weekend… but not too much luck.
  6. Prospects Live recently did a Mock Draft covering the first 63 selections (including 3 Brewers picks): 2021 MLB MOCK DRAFT 5.0 The write-ups also include a mention that the Brewers have had “top decision makers” out to see prep bat Peyton Stovall (currently mocked to the Cubs) and have attended several games for two-way college player Spencer Schwellenbach from Nebraska (mocked to the Cardinals). I know it’s looking less likely he’ll be available at #15, but I am hoping the Brewers land Matt McLain with their first pick.

  8. Willy Adames since joining the Brewers: .300 BA / .382 OBP / .483 SLG / .866 OPS / 137 OPS+ / 140 wRC+ / 11.8% BB% / 25.0% K% I’m not sure it’s fair to expect him to be quite that good offensively going forward (although his career road OPS with Tampa Bay was .854), but it sure feels like the Brewers have their best all-around shortstop in a long time.
  9. An early one today. If you look at the batter versus pitcher stats this one appears to be a significant advantage for the Reds (Reds hitters with career .934 OPS vs. Peralta; Brewers hitters with career .506 OPS vs. Castillo), but the way both pitchers have been trending this season it should hopefully be closer to the reverse of those historical lines.

  11. 1 for 3 with 2 walks. And the hit was a double. His line was good for a 238 wRC+ on the night. So if that’s the Yelich they get for the rest of the contract then they have a future Hall of Famer under control for nearly a decade.
  12. Yelich got a good looking swing on that one.
  13. Yeah, his second 4-hit game already since joining the Crew. His addition has certainly been one of the highlights of the first half of the season.
  14. This feels a little like the series games in Philadelphia where I still have faith the Brewers will score some runs, but they probably dug themselves too big of a hole to come all the way back and win.
  15. Brett Anderson isn’t pitching well by any means, but with a couple of slightly different outcomes this could be a 1-0 or 1-1 game right now.
  16. I missed the play and just saw the aftermath of this Shaw injury. Sounds like it occurred on a dive attempt, maybe a shoulder or back injury? EDIT: Just saw the replay. Tough break.
  17. Considering that inning was a disaster defensively for the Brewers it’s sort of a win to only be down one run.
  18. If the Brewers somehow traded for both Trey Mancini and Eduardo Escobar... Primary Lineup 2B Wong (L) 1B Mancini ® LF Yelich (L) RF Garcia ® C Narvaez (L) SS Adames ® 3B Escobar (S) CF Cain ® Bench: Urias ®, Taylor ®, Piña ®, Bradley (L), keep one of Shaw or Vogelbach (L) That lineup looks like it should be able to be at least league average to me.

  20. Haven’t seen it mentioned yet, but Antoine Kelly was not a fan of this trade proposal: Twitter Link
  21. I think the best place to conceal sticky substances going forward would be inside the belt or elastic waistband of the pants. I saw a pitcher for the Giants the other day that seemed to tug at the waistband on his right hip after nearly every pitch. EDIT: I misunderstood what you were saying initially JCREW, yes you would think if you had a substance and you wiped your hand frequently it would show on your uniform.
  22. Was just going to post that, seems like a pretty significant step signaling he may be added to the Brewers bullpen fairly soon. McCalvy also added the following: In talking about Aaron Ashby's move to the 'pen, Rick Sweet referenced Josh Hader, Brandon Woodruff and Corbin Burnes, all of whom made the same move to relief under Sweet before getting called up.
  23. Ke’Bryan Hayes missed the bag as he was watching his home run hit off the foul pole. Here’s the footage on Twitter for those interested.
  24. ...And you can add another hit for Winker to those numbers. Below are Castellanos career numbers against the Brewers for those interested... [pre]G GS PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS TB GDP HBP 29 29 125 118 22 34 12 1 8 22 4 31 .288 .320 .610 .930 72 4 2[/pre]
