  1. ^^Terrible attempt at throwback jersey.http://watchmojo.com/sports/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/tumblr_l0myniwzzp1qb2rs7o1_400.jpg The Captain.
  2. A 1.93 ERA with no losses is difficulty? http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=axforjo01&year=Career&t=p#oppon_extra
  3. Well the joy of tackon runs is that when a pitcher comes in and lays a complete egg, you still have a good lead.
  4. You're giving the assumption that minor league call ups will produce better numbers than the two statistically average guys. They're certainly going to try and see if Green will do anything, and if he does, they may consider platooning, but I don't see this happening and it's not worth the risk of having a rookie in your line-up with literally less than a month of experience for the playoffs. I think there's a general myth that if a player isn't batting hot, he's automatically as valuable as anybody. There's the 'we couldn't get any worse' argument that is full of crap. Gamel batting around .200 is worse than someone who's around .240-.250. If you're arguing that they should have acquired a quality SS and 3B, I would imagine they tried, but as a small market team, you simply can't magically obtain decent players at every position. Having weak bats in your line-up isn't all that rare. Teams have even won the World Series with over half of the lineup batting under .270.
  5. Let me get this straight. Yuni makes a great defensive play and if it weren't for Prince having a bad scoop, he would've gotten an out. He helps turn a close double play. Then he runs down a ground ball and throws on the run... and instead of acknowledging he made some nice plays, you guys get on the announcers for saying his range is good. Same thing with last night where he made the 4th top web gem and nobody even said anything about it. But a ground ball that any player produce an out gets criticism saying he's the worst SS in baseball.
  6. This team has the most incompetent base running. If I see another %#%!$#!# hit and run.... And shouldn't the batter confirm the sign before running the stupid play?
  7. "Prince Fielder... how far will it fly???" ...nobody really knows, since you can't see the ball. Braun really needs to stop aiming at the top of the wall. He should aim a foot or two above it next time. Go Crew! I think this is the most career ER against Dempster in his career.
  8. That was my main complaint. The average shortstop clearly would have dove and kept that on the infield. He's slow and he doesn't try. A shortstop with good range maybe even gives McGehee the confidence to stay at 3rd base for the force.Whenever a ball gets close to Yuni or McGehee, everyone instantly assumes that an average shortstop would have made a spectacular play on it. It would have taken a great play to knock that down. Once he took the bad angle, he didn't have a shot at a dive and committed way too early to fielding it cleanly. McGehee's defense has been good this half of the season, Yuni's has been about average. Even if he did knock it down, people would probably say the average SS would have turned that into an out. When he makes a great play that gets a web gem (last night) nobody even mentioned it in the thread.
  9. I replayed it. It was impossible to see where the ball actually was with WMLW, but it looked like Yuni could have ran deeper and kept it in the infield. He was screwed once went too shallow for that ball. There wasn't a chance at an out there, probably for any shortstop, but he could have at least knocked it down.
  10. The drag bunt he's doing isn't fooling anyone. I was at the game yesterday and the third baseman was playing well on the infield and they still tried it. It's prone to errors, I'll give you that, but with a player batting .310, it's hard to watch a guy lay down a bunt when he has a runner in scoring position. McGehee continues to bat well against Dempster and the Cubs. If only every team were named the Cubs. Betancourt hit a line drive to Soriano for an out again (like he did last night). Before McGehee turned it around, he had a lot of line drive outs, so I hope that's a good sign. Fielder should have gotten that hop.
  11. What's the situation that has the Brewers on WMLW instead of FSN? The picture quality is almost unbearable.
  12. Pirates up 7-0. They were talking about how the Brewers figured their pitching out and aren't just winning by out-home running the other team. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=dempsry01&year=Career&t=p#oppon_extra Splits against Brewers. I really want to find splits in just starts. I could only find one game in the past 5 seasons where the Brewers had over 4 ER.
  13. Since JHJ has come here, he's had a .258 BA, .303 OBP, .626 OPS Yuni in that stretch is .255, .274, .685. I don't see them moving JHJ into that role. The value of Yuni is that he has proved he can go on a hot streak, and I think it would be wrong to think he can't do it again. He's a streaky hitter, and the Brewers are hoping he gets hot again come the end of the year. The value Yuni has over JHJ is that he has some power and puts the ball in play. JHJ is a career .258 hitter, hasn't hit over 10 HR in a season, and he's in the tail end of his career. Yuni has more promise at this point as a 6-hole hitter. I think the Brewers should have more of a power-hitter (especially with Casey's power numbers down) than a guy who will draw more walks. I think Jerry works at the bottom as a 7/8 hitter as someone who will get on base in various ways, but the 6-spot should get more chances with runners on, and having a guy who has the power can give an advantage over someone who relies on singles and walks. As far as making drastic moves, it's just way to late in the season to experiment with minor league players. They've gotten 9.5 games up with these guys, so I think the last thing they want to do at this point is put unproven guys in and lose momentum. Gamel got called up and went 3 for 27. Why would they risk a .115 batting average when guys like Casey and Yuni are at their career statistical averages since the all-star break? I like moving Green up, and if he proves some success, he'll find some playing time. If Gamel lit it up when he got called, he would've definitely been at least platooning. The question we should be asking: Is it more likely minor league call-ups come to the bigs and immediately start batting hot, or is it more likely Casey plays like he did last year, or Yuni gets on another hot streak? As much as I like the idea of Green tearing it up and starting in place of a player who is clearly under-performing, I don't see it happening, and I think there's too much risk involved trying something drastic when the team is up 9.5 (could be 10 today) games. I really hope I'm wrong with this, and we see Green tear it up in his limited appearances, but I would be less surprised if he gets 10 plate appearances, strikes out a couple times and gets a base hit or two.
  14. Lucroy does seem to be pretty good at this. I never understood the guys like Soto who would frame pitches that bounce in the dirt. Even when Soto gets a strike, he moves the ball to the middle of the plate. Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems like he gets less calls this way, because framing to the middle tells the umpire that the pitcher missed. I always loved the way Kendall framed pitches. He didn't frame them all that often, and when he did, it seemed like he'd get the call. He'd have the ability to catch the ball far on his glove while moving it to the edge of the strike zone, seeming like he didn't frame the pitch at all. It would seem like common sense would say that if you frame every pitch, it loses its effectiveness.
  15. As it stands, I think their lineup is remarkably better than 2008. Mike Cameron in CF? I'll take Morgan. Weeks was obviously hurt back then too. His replacement was Ray Durham. Meh. Counsell was .226 in a 3B platoon with Bill Hall. Kendall at catcher? Huge upgrade offensively now. Okay, the line-up was similar, but the pitching increased dramatically, even without CC. Sheets, Bush, Suppan, Parra, and Sabathia... Two of those guys had a higher ERA than our 5th guy right now. But you've got a huge upgrade in the bullpen. I'll take Krod and Ax over Gagne and Torres any day.
  16. http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Pat+Lee+Green+Bay+Packers+v+Cleveland+Browns+mc6Kg34DmCvl.jpg This is how I feel. We lose a number, but we're deserving of a Pat Lee number instead of Emmit Smith.

  18. Yes! I got a Homer Drew bobblehead on my desk at work.
  19. True, but I was at the 2008 game against the Blue Jays were they nearly blew a 7 run lead in the 9th. Yes, they did win, but it left a permanent scar on my psyche. I almost feel worse when they are up by more than 4. I know it's irrational, but I just felt like sharing...I remember that game vividly. Dave Bush had a no-hitter in the 8th, and I remember Braun diving at a ball to left field hit by Overbay that he had no business catching. Yeah I looked that game up again, and the Brewers were up 8-0 in the 8th, and 8-1 going into the 9th. Dillard got two outs, then gave up a 2-run home run, fell apart and let two more base runners on. I remember being incredibly pissed that Yost put in David Riske of all people to relieve him, and gave up a grand slam. I remember being incredibly furious.
  20. He didn't pitch yesterday, and hoping he doesn't tomorrow. Dillard went two yesterday, and De Le Cruz also got roughed up and threw a lot of pitches. Who else do you use? LoeLoe pitched yesterday, but I imagine he might come in and pitch the 9th. Saying it makes 'zero sense' is really silly, considering it makes a lot of sense.

  22. Guys, I know the Brewers blew a 6-run lead recently, but it's VERY VERY rare to do.
  23. Yuni McGehee Yuni and McGehee have been doing pretty average, if not, above average since the break. Yuni, on an AL team batted .259, .240, .250 in his last three seasons. Yes, he had a terrible first half of the season, but he picked it up big time since the all star break. He was bound to cool off, but I don't think you can expect him to bat over .350 the rest of the year. The Brewers aren't going to be able to afford hot shots at every position, so it's just not worth it to complain about a player that's playing above his career numbers. McGehee is a totally different story. He's well below his numbers last year and his power numbers have been significantly down this year. Literally a third of his home runs have come in one game this year. Brewer fans should expect more from him... and I think they should expect even more than what he's been doing lately. He definitely has the potential to go on a hot streak and play like last year, but I think all of us are sick of waiting for that to happen. I think it's a bit of a stretch, however, to get on him in a 7-0 game when he hit a 2-run home run.
  24. You're going to get on McGehee for making an out in a 7-1 game after he hit a 2-run homer in his previous AB?Not to mention Yuni had two hits in the second inning...
