  1. I was all gung ho for botalico prior to this season but he friggen sucks. He has nothin'. He's meat. Trade him or cut him. Either way, we win.
  2. You arent the only one who see's that. I mentioned it in '03 when he made his debut. His style was much more Aaron like back then, but the similarities remain.
  3. not a good feeling about today. A win would be a wonderful suprise but I am expecting to get run out of town. 9-2 Marlins. Bummer. I hope we kick some rear, but I just dont see it today.
  4. ...and somewhere ....in an office........a big fat check is being made out to......... Harold D. Wynegar. 28 in a row. You're fired.
  5. Thats a glass half full perspective. Its no fun for a lot of us to look at things that way. Sure, when/if the wheels come off you aren't as broken hearted as someone who really kept hope alive but is that any fun? Lets say ATL tanks and comes back down to the pack. Right now Milw is only 2.5 out of 2nd in the WC chase. I don't see a reason Milwaukee can't gain ground (while playing a weak central) on the likes of Philly, NY, Fla and ATL. What "holes" are you going to plug? What position is currently a "hole"? Right field is the only possible "hole" but dealing Jenkins is going to be sort of hard, plus his OPS is tracking toward .800 (currently .765) and he has played a nice RF. I don't see any "holes" that need to be plugged. We don't have all-stars at any position but I don't see us in any dire need at any single position. We are set at 3rd, SS, 2B, 1B, LF, CF and perhaps RF. We are set with our Starting pitching and the bullpen is among the best in baseball. I just don't see all these problem spots that people talk about. If we did decide to deal a trio of prospects, say Hart-Hendrickson-Nelson, what position would Melvin be trying to fix? I can envision it. A while back I calculated what would happen if Milwaukee played .500 vs every team in the league, but managed 2 of 3 from Cincy, Pittsburgh and Houston. At that point it would have given the team something like 86 wins. I can't find that post but it seams like a scenario like that is sort of being played out. Our schedule down the stretch is very favorable. Keeping ATL withing reach is crucial.
  6. I know we all hate the cubs but finishing ahead of them won't give us long term satisfaction. The Braves are currently way out in front of the Wild Card pack and need to be brought back down to Earth. The Cubs suck. That is great, but catching ATL should be the greater goal. Milwaukee has a pretty nicely balanced team, despite the fact that a lot of fans still are convinced we "suck" and thinking of the postseason is strickly for the clinically insane. We are middle of the NL pack in scoring runs and towards the top of the leader board in team ERA and Whip. This isn't the 2002 Milwaukee Brewers. The team is one winning stretch away from being right smack dab in the Wild Card chase. Jenkins and Hardy, who tag teamed to create serious drag on the offense in the first 60+ games are both looking more like the players we assumed they would be this year. Branyan is back healthy and adding a new bit of pop in the lineup. Clark, Lee, Hall, Overbay and Miller are all very solid spots in the order. Weeks has jumped in and made the offense much more potent. The entire pitching staff has been exceptional. This team should be setting its sights on running off a 20 game stretch where they win 14 or 15 and putting themselves in postseason contention. Watching the Cubs flounder is fun and all but that isn't enough. Blow by the Cubs on your way to making a Wild Card push. That would be crushing to Cubs fan far more than simply watching us finish with a few less losses than they.
  7. It really IS time to move on but, gosh dang it.....that was seriously depressing yesterday. Man. Its games like that which really keep us out of the hunt.
  8. I missed the HR....any idea on distance? Was it a line shot? Towering blast? Fence scrapper? Rickie friggen rocks.
  9. No offense to Lyle, but its getting old seeing one of the best offensive prospects in baseball ride the pines. Send him down or play the man. This is poor handling of a young superstar in the making.
  10. The Brewer's elbows were all wrong tonight.
  11. homer.. you know good and well that all of those posts were in the context of the elbow argument. I cant rewrite my analysis in EVERY post during an argument. I mentioned several times that Harts main problem could be addressed and that unless he changes he will suck at the big league level. Apparently he has made an elbow adjustment and has since turned things around. I dont see how that makes me wrong. I think it supports what I have been saying all along. But, believe what you want.
  12. well hoffy... yes it was me who noticed harts elbow problems. And for the record I never said he was a bust. I said he was a future bust if he didnt change his hitting style/swing/approach/stance. Apparently he has done that and, by george, results. I guess my perceptions might not have been as completly outrageous and stupid as people thought.
  13. Darron and Bill get a lot of grief on this site but let me tell you that it sure was enjoyable to listen to them giggle for 20 minutes after Princes bomb. It was hilarious how excited they were. Everytime they tried to talk they both just started giggling. Totally funny. That was a blast.
  14. again.... when did I say the '04 brewers would finish ahead of STL? When did that happen again? You guys are truely pathetic. Argue with me all you want but at least use some facts to support your claim. Do you guys work for the government or something? You cant just say something over and over and over and expect it to become true because it helps your argument. I never said Milwaukee will finish ahead of STL in '04. What I said was clear and there is no need to repeat it again. Again....the JD DREW comparison in ATL has no value. Does ATL have a huge payroll and can they attrack pretty much ANY FA they desire? Yes. How does that compare with Milwaukee's situation? No FA's sign here unless they come from the state or are already on the team. Signing Jenkins was the only option and it made sense at the time. It was jenkins or a retread. Melvin made the right move.
  15. luzinski.... when the hell do you plan on making any comment putting YOURSELF out on a limb? When is that going to happen? What was YOUR prediction for the NL central last year? You still havent shown where I said the brewers were better than the cardindals! I SAID I WAS WRONG! READ what I said. I said it pretty clearly sirl Never did I say Milwaukee was better than STL. I said it clearly that it was a two teir division due to Hou and Chi having superior pitching and I was wrong. BIG FRIGGEN DEAL! Show me ONE baseball publication that has ever predicted all of the divisions even close. I went out on a limb and made a rational prediction based on what I felt at the time. It turned out that the Cardinal pitching staff proved me wrong. The best professional gamblers jump for joy if they hit 60%. I never said I had that one right but for all the statements I make and have made, you sure seem obsessed with that one. For the record.....I NEVER SAID MILWAUKEE IS GOING TO FINISH AHEAD OF STL. Stop saying that. Argue with the facts. I said simply that CHicago and Houston were the top tier and everyone else would have to play for third. CHeck out the career numbers of their pitching staff prior to '04 to see my logic. So I was wrong about STL. Sue me. THen bite me. Now for Jenkins. ..... tell me how you would have prefered the Brewers to handle Jenkins at that time. Should you allow your late 20's, 850 career OPS outfielder to walk knowing that NO free agent in his class will even sniff Milwaukee? What option did Milwaukee have? It was either sign Jenks or get stuck with some has been or cast off. Jenks had two of the top 9 OPS seasons of all time brewer history and was entering the prime of his career. It was a no brainer. So was Tony Mandarich. Sometimes no brainers don't work out. What I am NOT hearing is all the disenters saying what the options were? What Free Agent would have been able to fill the shoes left by the loss of GJ? I don't think we could have done any better than we did. Unfortunatly Jenks has let his game slide to horrible levels and he basically sucks. That doesn't mean that at the time it wasn't a smart move. It was.
  16. Or maybe he sees that a bunch of bashers are trying to backtrack now. Scoop on the other hand called his success way back in the day. I took a completly unfair amount of heat for making the soriano comparison. In fact, I didn't go as far as I SHOULD have. I said he was a poor mans Soriano. I should have just said, he has the talent of Soriano, which he just might. Either way, Hall is kicking ass and all his detractors can shut it.
  17. Hey Danzig... why don't you start chronicaling all of my thoughts. That way you would actually have a clue as to how accurate or not they are. You completly misrepresent what I said about the Cardinals last year. I said, and I assumed I cleared this up long ago, that it was a race between the Cubs and Houston and the rest of the division would fight it out for 3rd. My reasoning was straightforward. While the Cards had a solid offense there pitching, in my opinion, was a patchwork job of has beens and cast offs. If you want to tell me that you knew all along that Carpenter, Marquis, Morris, Suppan and Williams would be good enough to win 100+ games based on their numbers PRIOR to '04, you are full of crap. I said it was a two tier division with Houston and Chicago at the top and the rest was a race for third. Milwaukee was 7 games over .500 well into the season and hung around. My point was simply that STL didn't have the pitching to blow Milwaukee out of the water. Turns out, they did. There is no way in hell anyone could have looked at their starting rotation and argued prior to '04 that they would ALL turn there careers around. Now...why don't you tell me about all the other bad "predictions" I have made. It isn't bragging when you can back it up and I have been right on the button with several arguments. Fire away.
  18. Luzinski why dont you go find a misleading and out of context qoute to use as your tag line? As far as Jenkins....yes I was thrilled when they signed him to his deal. Where else was Milwaukee going to come up with a guy with a n .850 career OPS for 7-8 mil per year? No where. Free agents dont sign with the Brewers. Jenks already had 2 of the top 9 OPS seasons in franchise history and was entering, what should have been his prime years. I was stoked as every Brewer fan should have been. He was on pace to be one of the top offensive players in Milwaukee history. Has he fallen flat on his face? Yep. Was there anything to indicate this type of monumental downfall? Not at that time there wasn't. Again, 2 of the top 9 OPS seasons EVER for Milwaukee and about to enter his prime? It was a good signing that went bad. I have no explanation as to why he sucks so bad right now. But where the hell was Milwaukee supposed to come up with a Free Agent to replace an .850 OPS guy for that kind of money? Answer me that. Also......all I did is call out the Hall bashers. Where are they now? I said last year that Hall was a poor mans Soriano and got laughed off the website. Now Billy has a higher OPS than Soriano and the Hall bashers don't have much to say.
  19. lets not overlook Billys OPS just hit .900. We need to rethink Mr Hall. He is an ALL-STAR candidate THIS year. Send Hall to the midsummer classic!!
  20. Homer.. I take 100 shots here for every "atta boy" so I am not going to apoligize for reminding you when I was right. Which I am most of the time, thank you very little.
  21. Does anyone want to laugh at me for calling Hall a poor mans Soriano (last year) right about now? I didnt think so. Good job Billy Hall.
  22. Does anyone else just hate Neifi Perez? I can't stand looking at his chicken legs in his ill fitting uniform. What a dork. I can't stand the guy. I can't stand the Cubs period. Why do we half to SUCK year after year? I hate Neifi Perez.
