  1. No one said anything about All Star appearances. Ricky Bones made an All-Star game too. Was he worth a crap? No. All Star appearances make no difference when comparing players. Nomar is going to the AS game this year. Did he earn it? NO. Is he in a huge market, yes. End of story. Big market players have a totally unfair advantage when determining All-Star members. Next, in the history of the Milwaukee Brewers Geoff Jenkins is in the top 9 TWICE for best OPS seasons ever. That has earned him more of a right to suck for a while than Spivey. I am not trying to say that Jenkins hasn't sucked this year, because he has. I AM saying that he has earned a longer leash than Junior. There is no comparison. Spivey hasn't done ANYTHING to earn some starting mandate. Jenkins has. Does Geoff need to get is arse in gear? Heck yeah. Bottem line, GJ has a history with this organization and has had monster seasons, JS hasn't.
  2. In the last few weeks Milwaukee has had Johan Santana, Jake Peavey and Eric Gagne on the ropes. Three of the top pitchers in MLB. 0-3. We needs some offense. Put me on board for wanting to see if R Weeks can add some punch to this anemic offense. Spivey sucks. Plain and simple. Jenkins at least has a track record of good baseball to allow him a bit of a leash. Spivey hasn't earned any right to suck for this long and remain in the lineup. Melvin owes it to Sheets-Davis-Capuano and Santos to get some freakin offense in the lineup. Weeks is mashing at an unreal rate. I have never seen a Brewer farmhand dominating like this at AAA. He needs to be in Milwaukee sooner than later.
  3. Put me on record as saying it is going to be ugly when/if Hart gets a chance in the big leagues. Early prediction. 1st 100 AB's, 12 hits, 2 doubles, 35 k's, O bombs. He is a long way from being a major league hitter. Comparisons to Sexson are way off base. I always pull for Brewer prospects but this is going to be ugly. He is the kind of guy who might find his stroke for a different organization when he is 28 or 29. He is no where close as far as I can tell. Jenkins might be struggling but his horrid numbers would destroy anything Hart could be doing.
  4. Ned Yost needs a head CT. I am sure he has some sort of brain damage. How can you sit there and lose with Overbay and Branyan unused? PINCH FRICKIN HIT FOR MILLER! He is the worst double play risk on the team and you decide to let him hit with Lyle sitting there. Nice freakin managing. Ned flat out sucks. I am more convinced of that every day. There is no way you let Miller hit there. Moeller can catch the remainder if needed. You have to give your best players a chance to win the game. Total BS.
  5. I am not trying to pick a fight with you either so read what I say before asking stupid questions. I never said Jenkins should pull outside pitches. That would be stupid. I said he needs to start attempting to pull pitches middle-in. Big difference. He is taking perfectly pullable pitches, which he used to hit HARD to right and fighting them off, trying to the other way. Its getting hard for me to sit there and watch that. He is a pull hitter with great bat speed and Wyneger has his swing all inside out. He is swinging like a left handed Yount. It worked for Robin but Geoff is a pull hitter with an uppercut. Don't pull the outside stuff but turn the hips and yank the pitches middle in. Like I said about JJ earlier, he needs to stop worrying about contact. Contact comes natural for him. Its time to start driving the ball hard. He made that adjustment soon after coincidentaly and now he is starting to contribute. Same for Jenks. When he starts pulling the ball hard, his numbers will baloon. For now, he sucks.
  6. why is everyone so excited? Everyone knows Milw is not a contender anyway. The season was decided last winter when rosters were set and the playing of the games is merely a formality. We have the useless retread Jeff Cirillo for cripe sakes!! He isn't a 5 tool superstar so obviously resorting to having washed up hacks like him on the roster proves we can't hang with those monster organizations like the Cubs, Houston and the mighty Reds. How are we supposed to compete for a wildcard birth with a rotation of Sheets, Davis, Capuano, Santos and Obermueller with teams like Arizona and Atlanta in the league! They are the REAL teams. I mean they are loaded with superstars like Councell, Cintron, Laroche and Mondesi. Every team has wicked talent at every position except Milwaukee. Sheesh. This will all come to a screeching halt soon. Smoke and mirrors people. The real Brewers will come out and play soon. This is too small of a sample to get a true indication of the major disparity of talent between teams like the Mets and the Brewers. Now that my sarcastic rant is over, let me say that I think STL comes back to the pack a bit rather soon. I still am not sold on a runaway season for STL. I just don't see it. Milwaukee clearly has superior pitching, while Stl clearly has superior offensive consistancy. Milwaukee needs to keep beating up on the weak sisters and hope that Stl comes back to reality. I think the Cards are due for a bit of a slump. By the way, where are the Cirillo bashers? I stuck with my guns when he was hitting .190. Where are you? I will also stick by my argument that Jenkins isn't going to turn this around until he remembers that he is a pull hitter. Taking outside pitches the other way is wonderful but looking to slap fastballs down the pipe to left is not what Mil is paying him 7 mil for. Turn and yank Geoff. Anyway....great game! Looking forward to Sheets manana.
  7. no mention of Drew or Weaver. Does anyone think either could be the pick?
  8. unable to watch this game, following online..... what is the deal with Santana......?? 5 straight K's? Is he throwing upper 90's or??? I know he is one of the best but ...5 k's in a row? Of course 2 were Helms and Moeller...but still.
  9. How about Weeks with 10 XBH in 65 AB's. That is extremely encouraging. The way he runs I will stand by my prediction that someday he will lead the lead in triples. I also think he will get close to the record for XBH's by a rookie in 2006.
  10. fine....then double switch with bill hall. I just think it made sense to double switch in that situation. I still think that Cirillo is perfectly capable of filling in on an emergency basis. Its not like I am expecting Helms or Branyan to play 2b. I wouldn't expect them to. JC is more of a utility type defender and could fairly easily adapt to a few innings at 2b.
  11. well then Ned should have let Alou make a move and react to it. That has nothing to do with the fact that you declared Cirillo CANT play 2b. I think that is an awfully strange thing to say especially in that situation. Who would be a better choice to play 2b then if Spivey goes down for a game? Bill Hall? So a bad defensive ss is better than a good defensive 3b when deciding who an emergency 2b is? So we are only carrying ONE person on the roster who can play 2b? Wow.
  12. So in a situation where a double switch is obviously in order, Cirillo should not even be considered at 2b? I totally disagree. Today we saw Yost burn a reliever, perhaps the hottest in the pen, to face ONE hitter. That hitter was the opposing pitcher. Name another time you remember seeing THAT manuver. We know that Miller was available and could have been double switched with Moeller. Spivey could have been pulled for Cirillo. Jeff is a major league third baseman and a solid defensive player. He could have managed 2nd base for 3 freaking innings rather than burning Wise to face fricken Brett Tomko. That was a bush league move and blaming it on the idea that Cirillo is somehow incapable of playing 2nd for 3 innings is just plain foolish. I am not advocating benching Spivey and inserting Cirillo full time. I am saying he can play there if a situation arises. It arose.
  13. endaround... so I want you to make a stand for once. Say right now that Jeff Cirillo is completly incapable of filling in at 2b for the 2005 Milwaukee Brewers.
  14. Oh well...then... Case closed.....checkmate.....game set match. You are right. Jeff Cirillo can NOT play 2nd base for 3 innings if the Milwaukee Brewers need him too.
  15. so cirillo cant play 2nd but can pinch hit for someone who just splashed the ocean? As far as your comment that Jeff cant play 2nd for 3 innings, I believe I watched doug meintkavich (spelling...i know)......play 2b for boston last year. If a career 1b can play a few innings, a career 3b can certainly fill in for a few innings.
  16. dhonks...... tomko has a career avg in the .170s and an ops around 400. Either let Capuano face him or double switch so Wise can stay in the game for the next inning. Pull Moeller for Miller or Spivey for Cirillo. Bad Managing.
  17. well..I must say Ned is absolutly brain dead on this call. He wastes a pitcher out of the bullpen for 1 at bat. Against the pitcher. What is he smoking? Thats just horrific baseball managing. Someone check his feeding tube because I think the last signs of brain activity were a while ago.
  18. anyone else concerned that cappys velocity is down in the mid 80's? He never was mid 90's but his heater shouldn't be topping out in the 87 range.
  19. Me too. He doesn't sound like a Count. Thats the most dangerous kind though.
  20. I must say I am really liking Santos. He has performed like a mad man thus far. When he takes the mound I feel confident that he is a professional pitcher who gives you a fighting chance.
  21. well aparently doug melvin doesnt think he sucks either. after all he DID sign him to a pretty hefty deal. So why are you so focused on my belief that Jenkins was and can be a big time stick? I was talking about cirillo vs helms. Got a problem with my opinion? Maybe you could offer an opinion instead of focusing on your dislike for me, Or perhaps you could find a qoute taken out of context and use it for a tag line,
  22. because I have eyes, a brain and thousands of baseball games under my belt both having played and watched. People are so fixated on stats (myself included) that they forget that they can trust their eyes sometimes. JC is a better baseball player than WH. He just is. If I never saw a stat of either I would say the same thing. How can things be proven without stats? Its a matter of using your head. Rocky is a better movie than Gigli. I can tell by watching both and using the hundreds of movies I have seen as a frame of reference. Gigli cost more to make but it sucks compared to Rocky. I don't need box office numbers to make that call.
