  1. Who actually dials numbers on a cell phone? I don't even know almost anyone's phone number anymore. I just use the contacts list. I have everyone's information in there and I have it backed up on a card for when my phone blows up. I can't seriously take as an argument that the UI is bad because a user can't dial a number by touch. How often are you dialing numbers on your cell phone? I can't remember the last time I did. Now you don't have to click to your contacts, you can just touch the one you want in the list displayed. This phone is boss. I'm going to wait about a year to get one. It's ahead of its time for sure. There are people who don't have or use a cell phone still? This is amazing to me. I'm not sure how I ever survived without one. When meeting up with friends or whatever, what did we used to do? Call and plan ahead hours in advance? Can't do that. It's a dynamic world. I need to be connected to my friends and such. It's a great convenience. Plans constantly change. Meeting up with people is so much easier. If we want to meet at Summerfest you just text them when you'll be there (text messaging is the single best feature of a phone!) and they'll text you where they're at when they get there. I probably use text messaging more than any other feature. You can send one message to everyone at once (So if I want to do something I can send 15 people the same message) and get replies. Sometimes (very often) you don't want a conversation, you just want bare bones details on what's happening. Or you're in a loud place....or a library or something. Text messaging is, to me, the single biggest use of my phone. I agree, people often use them at bad times (like when interacting with others) and I still can't stand it when people drive inattentively because of them. But for the most part I've accepted them as a ubiquitous and necessary accessory for people in modern society.
  2. Trade the pick. Drafting players isn't going to help this team very much this year. It's rare for a rookie or even second year player to have major, positive impact on a team trying to go places. This years draft is hyped a lot. Picks are worth a lot more than they usually are. We should take advantage of this and gather a known quantity for ourselves. We didn't get in the lotto so lets use our pick to clean house by moving a contract we don't want any longer and creating our front court. This team is young enough and needs veterans. I'm not saying we can't get a good player with that pick, but I think we can help the team more if we trade it. We could compete in this Eastern conference with Mike Redd and Pau Gasol as our 2 stars. We have a steller set of role players to boot.
  3. Trade the pick. I think they can get more for it, plus the dumping of a contract they might not want (Gadzuric) and get a pretty good player back. Why not trade: Bogut or CV, Gadz, #6 pick 2007 draft. for Gasol, second round pick. And then sign a FA with the cap room saved from trading away Gadzuric. Probably be Mo. Getting younger is not going to help this team. We have 2 valuable assets in our front court. But they're too young. We need to trade one of them (Bogut or CV) to get a veteran player who is a star and brings toughness and some leadership to the team. I'm in the TRADE THE PICK camp.
  4. Something doesn't add up here. If you're falling at a rate of 120 MPH for 2 miles over 60 seconds...you'd open your chute....well, lets say your chute would never open! J/K, as you're up a couple thousand feet more than that. Should be fun. I've never gone but it sounds like a good time. But I just can't deal with the fact that I'd be jumping out of a plane. I mean, I'm pretty excited we even have planes! I'm perfectly happy we can fly. Why would I want to jump out?! I can't feel sympathy for anyone that gets hurt skydiving. I mean, you jumped out of a plane, 2 miles high.
  5. Ohhhh, the Si. I believe those were the more rare ones and more sought after. That car is one of the first variable valve timing cars ever built. It's a great car. VTEC baby, VTEC!
  6. Just get that Fred McGriff video they've been selling for 20 years. Apparently the team featured in those videos won like 4 titles!
  7. It's tough because you only have 2 umps. In MLB every base is accounted for of course. So it sounds like this guy (or team) is exploiting the fact that there aren't enough umps. It's smart play although unsportsmanlike. I'd imagine the ump, if he caught this happening, that the player could be ejected for something like that. Obviously the player is out but exploiting a situation like that could be determined unsportsmanlike conduct and I'm sure the league rules allow for an ump to make a judgment call on what this means. It's really funny though.
  8. I reference this stat: Tbow leads the NL in holds. And everyone at the top has around the same W/L ratio. In short he's our setup, 8th inning guy and he's not too bad at it.
  9. I should edit that he's actually doing better than I thought. He has 3 blows on the year but 20 holds, 1 save and 1 win. That's 22 out of 25 good appearances. 88% of the time we are successful with Tbow pitching. Those are good numbers and something I'm comfortable with. He's not going to be perfect. Please give me a setup man in the league that is? You will lose 1 run baseball games in the 8th and 9th sometimes. Get over it.
  10. His meltdowns frustrate me as well, and he didn't get the job done today -- period. However, in his defense, in his previous 8 IP, he had given up zero runs, one hit, and two 2 BB's. Bingo! These are really great numbers. He's doing fine. You have to expect a blown opportunity from time to time. He's had 23 opportunities this year I believe and 3 of them have been failures. Hardly uncommon. If he had blown 6 of them to date, then we probably have a problem. But he's at 86% right now.
  11. TBow is what he is. An erratic late game pitcher who either gives the opponent no chance (slider is working) or makes a real contest out of it (slider isn't working). He's 20-3 (in opportunities) which is a little below average I think, but we have a lot of close wins. His ERA doesn't mean much because with these guys, if it's blown it's pretty much blown and a bad blow or 2 will really destroy the ERA. It's all about Holds/Chances. If you're holding 90% of them you're at the top of your position. He's held 86% of his chances. That's pretty good. We can't freak out every time a guy blows something when it's a 1 run game. The other team has professional batters too and they're going to get hits and score runs, even against your late inning pitching gods. It's part of the game. 20-3 isn't too bad, especially when you consider we've won more close games than lost overall.
  12. He can flat out pitch. He paints the corners well, has a tremendous breaking ball and works batters real well. The only reason I could imagine sending him back would be because we don't want to over use him. He's 21 or 22 and the arm is still a tender thing at this point. But I'm not a doctor or close to the team to make this call. I'd expect they wouldn't risk blowing this kids arm just to have him in the rotation. And his agent must be in tune to this too. He's going to advocate the team do what's in YoGa's best interests. As for ability? He can pitch. He'll have ups and downs but with that kind of command and that breaking ball, he's got a future. He should only be sent down if there are concerns he would get too much work up here. But you could also suppose that the MLB team is going to have superior facilities, training staff and monitoring tools so being up here could be better in the long run.
  13. I can't remember the last time Supp had a good outing, hopefully he turns one in tonight. We need it. Against the Padres he pitched very well in a loss. He's due for a good game. Hopefully he braks out of his slump.
  14. I think Manny is a great, great piece of trade bait.
  15. Hahahahahaha, Cubs blow!
  16. Don't give her the ring on a holiday or her birthday. It can be considered a gift then and if the wedding gets called off she has a lot more leverage in keeping it. I read some story about a wealthy man in NYC that bought his GF a $80,000.00 ring or something insane like that and gave it to her on Christmas. How very sweet, proposing on Christmas. Well, she eventually left him and wanted to keep the ring. Of course he balked so they went to court. They ruled that although it was a proposal ring, it was given on Christmas with the belief it was a gift and it became her property. So make sure there isn't anything on Earth going on the the day you propose. Also, don't do it at a baseball game.
  17. That was really funny! Thanks for the link. I'm a Star Wars fan so this was of course rather funny. I don't watch TV much and don't keep up with these kinds of things so it's nice to have a link to it like this. Too many funny parts with the Emperors personality/quotes probably being the funniest to me. "I don't speak-o minimum wage-o." Or the subtle detention center scene with all the flash conference call with some guys around the "office" and then Vader. And of course Vader opts for adding a reactor....I don't know, if you've worked in a few different industries and in an office, that's a very funny joke. I've worked on software projects before where an architect for a certain system is called and asked about something that turns out doesn't exist but maybe could and they go on about how it should exist and how to design it, etc and basically "invent" what you've just asked about even though it's probably not needed or exists elsewhere blah, blah, blah.
  18. I must be getting older. I've had a theroy about the "Summerfest Inverse Bell Curve of Interest". Essentially what it means is Summerfest is interesting when you're a teenager and as you get around 30+ until about 40, when all interest in loud events with lots of drunk people significantly drops off. Teenagers have a place to loiter first and foremost. And Summerfest gets enough bands teenagers are more likely to be in to as well to keep some interest. But really, 12 hours of loitering in the summer with nothing else to do isn't the worst way to blow time when you're 15-19 or so. You don't need money as a diet of frosty's usually gets it done at this time. It's something new, being in a huge social setting like this. You hit 20, 21 and suddenly Summerfest is the lamest place on Earth. You're a little short on cash (college), have to work more and don't have much interest at all in most of the music, which consists of music for the teenagers or washed up acts from 10-15 years ago riding the summer festival scene. To boot, you generally have many other much cooler, hip places to spend your nights with friends and such. As you age you generally come into a little more money and suddenly all your favorite bands are washed up groups from 10-15 years ago. Summerfest! Since your social life starts to slow down around 30 or so Summerfest becomes something new, fun and interesting to do in the summer. You get to be a teenager again except now you can drink beer and afford food. You're pretty much a nerd at this point so you and your friends decide to let it all hang out during a night out at Summerfest. It feels new and refreshing. Now, I definitely don't fit the last category here. But I noticed on the band lineups some of them are a little closer to being interesting for me, with more than a few being something I'd actually watch. I can definitely see the bell curve going from all time lows the last few years (last 5 or 6 really, if not more) to a gradual increase in which hypothesize will reach a climax in the next 5 or 7 years. Summerfest is for teenagers and 30 somethings.
  19. I will be there. I love Wednesday day games for some reason. Vargas seems to pitch in them a lot too...at least when I go. I love going into game 3 with 2 wins because although the sweep would be great, it's about as loose of a game there is. Go Crew!
  20. You'd have to re-bore the cylinder if it has a notch in it. And getting a new pistons, head gasket, etc....sounds like more trouble than it's worth. I'd buy an electric lawn mower. They don't pollute (from the point of operation anyways) nearly as bad as gasoline ones.
  21. I think I like Vargas more than Bush this year so far. Vargas doesn't go very long and his WHIP is rather high...but he gets it done. He seems to become a different pitcher when runners get on... Bush has had a rough going at it so far. Couple good games could change some things, and maybe his second half will be better. But right now I think I keep Vargas as the #5 when Cappuano comes back: Sheets Cappuano Suppan Yo Vargas Or something to that effect.
  22. Was at the game and it was really fun. Pretty good crowd that let Bonds really have it and really cheered for Yo. It was an exciting, nail biter of a game. We had a few opportunities to score a few more runs, but that's baseball. A win is a win and you have to be happy with that. Great to see Yo perform well (what a curve ball and changeup!) and get a hit right after I tell a friend he swings the bat well and might hit better than most NL pitchers. But the crowd had a fun time and it wasn't your typical Friday night crowd (which I like too, but that's more of a drunk, party crowd). More of a baseball crowd it seemed. Was a good time for a Monday night.
  23. Looks like Sheets hasn't done too well against the Giants. Lets hope he gets a little closer to the mean tonight. The Giants really don't have great offense. Tim has been struggling lately. Our bats have been going pretty well. Would be nice to put a stomping on these guys and take the series. The Giants are really down right now and kicking them would be great. Lets kill 'em!
  24. If you can make it out to Silvercreek Brew Pub I Cederburg, you're doing yourself a favor. They have a wide selection of their own beers on tap as well as plenty of other good beers on tap. A real beer drinkers pub. If you go, you have to get their Maibock. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/nerd.gif z glass and about 12% alcohol. They have a nice, darker IPA as well. Great environment and overall a very nice, secluded place.
  25. Don't you mean, "Scary Sherri", as she was referred to during her days with the Macho Man?
