  1. I don't know how quickly New York can turn around and trade Swisher but what do you guys think about Swisher and Cabrera for Cameron and Billy Hall? Our outfield needs are met. We have another LH power bat in the lineup and if Swisher and Weeks revert to career norms they would be a nice patient group in front of a fearsome middle of the order. If Swisher fails at CF then you still have Cabrera and a $6M bench player. Weeks Swisher Braun Fielder Hardy Hart 3B Kendall Any deal with Cameron I would try to shed Hall and his $6 million salary or Suppan I think they would be more receptive to Hall.
  2. Rottino's problem is he is not good enough. As hard as it is to say he isn't. Irrabarren's problem is Week's is blocking him and you need your utility middle infielder to play SS unless you go with just one backup OF but IMO that is severely limiting the power off your bench. I guess I look at last year's stats and AAA stats of Hurricane's .277/.329/.341/.670 Rottino's .260/.313/.392/.705 Neither of those are screaming "I need to be in the Major Leagues"
  3. Yeah I don't know. On name recognition you would say yes, but if you look at him he was only a 5 time all-star, didn't get 300 wins only finished above 4th place in Cy Young voting once. He was a very good pitcher for a long period of time. Is that enough to get into Cooperstown? I don't know.
  4. Actually I am not sure, I kind of just assumed they were paying for Coco. I guess I shouldn't do that.
  5. Again I have never seen DeJesus play, but does he have the arm to play RF. I noticed just looking at his profile he has only 51 AB's in RF over the past 3 seasons compared to 500 as a LF and 1,000 as a CF. Also shouldn't we expect more value out of a Right Fielder. DeJesus will be 29 to start next season and has never had an OPS over .820. I guess I am just playing Devil's Advocate here. I would definitely take him on this team but exactly what are we willing to give up? I also want to make sure he's not another Johny Estrada. Looks great on paper then you get him on your team and you can't wait to get rid of him.
  6. Here's an idea. Trade Hardy if the right deal comes along and put Bill Hall at SS for a year to boost his value then trade him and let Escobar take the position in 2010. I don't think there is any chance that Bill Hall has another season as miserable as he did last season. If he had a .700 OPS he would be servicable as a SS. If he put his career averages he would be an above average SS. Then sign a 3B like Casey Blake. Remember this all centers around getting a decent haul for J.J. Hardy as in an unbelievable package of prospects or a young #1 type pitcher like Matt Cain. If we don't get that then I would not trade Hardy.
  7. That is what I was trying to get at. Do the Brewers really want to trade away Hart or Weeks for someone that his prior team found very questionable as a Center Fielder. Now I don't know DeJesus's outfield ability but would he be an upgrade in CF over Hart? I have no idea. And if he wasn't would we still want to trade Hart for DeJesus?
  8. I just wanted this repeated. There is no reason to be playing baseball as late as they do. Why is the start of the season pushed back to April 7th next season and the World Baseball Clasic shouldn't be an excuse for possibly playing baseball in November. Baseball should also put in planned day-night double headers on Saturdays. Thats just my 2 cents.
  9. I have never seen DeJesus play. So these are just guesses. But I am guessing there is a reason that the Royals traded what seems to be a young (27), effective (2.64 ERA), and controllable reliever (4 years under arby yet) for Coco Crisp to play CF when they already had DeJesus who didn't even play there full time last season. Crisp had a worse BA, OBP, and Slugging in a much better lineup than what DeJesus had. Plus Crisp is older. So why would they trade a pre arby bull-pen arm and take on a 6 million contract obligation to replace what appears to be a better player. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe DeJesus is the cat's ass in CF however i would not be willing to part with Weeks or Hart to find out.
  10. Could you imagine How good the Brewers would have been if you replace Pujols with Prince? This is how I would determine the MVP vote if I had a ballot. Pujols is better at every facet of the game. How don't you vote for Pujols over Prince?
  11. Pure Numbers I think it is definitely Braun. But if you prorate those numbers factoring in the 2 months that Braun missed for AAA. I think Prince is more likely to replicate. People have to remember Prince is 6 months younger than Braun. I wouldn't be suprised if Prince hit 60 next season. I would be suprised if Braun hit 60.
  12. Tbadder, I guess I have to vehemently disagree with everything you said. Prince never produced a season in the minors like Gamel did this year, Weeks never did until AAA. Braun even struggled for a half year in high A and Gamel's season stats compare very favorably to Braun's half season stats at AA. They both were 22 at the time. I think the reason it doesn't feel like we have any top prospects is because we have so many prospects performing at such a high level and we are paying so much more attention to the prospects. Hell it has been discussed to death but the Huntsville lineup was scarry this year with prospects. Gillespie and Errecart were barely even mentioned and I could easily see each of them having an decent length major league career. Caleb Gindl and Taylor Green provided us with a very high prospect at the High A and Low A levels and I am excited about the draft class we just got in. And that doesn't even include Jeremy Jeffress who I would rank as our top prospect. Weeks, Fielder and Braun had the high prospect status and buzz because of their draft position. This group of prospects seem to have their high prospect status because of their production. Edit: Please avoid using long nested quotes, especially if you are responding to the last post in the thread. - Toby
  13. turn on a TV and lay down anytime after 9PM and I am usually out cold within 5 minutes. It doesn't take much for me to fall asleep.
  14. Does anyone know when the deadline to offer a player arbitration is? Any team that does sign him would be foolish to sign him before that deadline. I think Hoffman would like to finish his career out in San Diego and if they did offer Arbitration I am sure that he would accept and it would cost the Padres more money than if they would have signed him outright. Hoffman would probably make 10 million a year in arbitration.
  15. I think Ichiro is to marketable in Seatle for them to trade. I think he earns every penny of that 17 million back for the Mariners through advertising.
  16. 2 years of AAA? Really. Now I am not nieve enough to think that Escobar can jump from AA to the majors and rake right away. And I know that he has trouble working the count, getting walks and is struggling right now in winter ball. However He has hit well over .300 the past two years while being younger for his league plus has speed. Now if that was all that was going to define his playing career I would agree He might spend a couple years in AAA, but from what I hear his glove is going to carry him. I can't really see any situation besides an injury that costs him the whole 2009 season or forgetting how to play baseball in which he isn't on a big league roster in 2010.
  17. I can't believe it was only 4 short months ago that everybody was saying that there was no way that the Brewer's could trade Corey Hart. And Hart and Braun are the Cornerstones of this franchise. Then Again Prince was also a cornerstone of this franchise once upon a time. The Problem is you can't trade a player when a player is playing well because of the fan backlash and you can't get anything for the player when everyone wants to trade him during a bad stretch. What am I saying, pretty much nothing. I just like making observations. I definitely wouldn't trade Prince or Hart though unless you get what they would have been worth after last season. If we really needed to fix our team I would trade J.J. Hardy for starting pitching and rent a Short Stop for a year and let Alcides earn the spot in 2010. I think you would be selling high on JJ. But then again you would probably get a lot of fan backlash. That's my two cents.
  18. Luckily we have you to clear that up. If just a guy is a 24 year old that already has 3 years of major league experience in New York City with decent stats for his position, then I want quite a few "just a guy"s. I mean the guy is 6 months older than LaPorta and just a year older than Gamel and already has 3 major league seasons under his belt with modest but decent results. Tell me why if you get this kid out of New York and the night life why he couldn't become a decent player?
  19. OK here is my try at an off-season I am operating under a couple of assumptions: Sheets and Sabathia will not be back, our new scouting director knows what he is doing Trade #1: the Popular Cameron to the Yankees for Cabrera and Kennedy Trade #2: Suppan, Bill Hall, Salome, and possibly another mid tier prospect for Vazquez and Nick Swisher Trade #3: Adrian Beltre for low level prospects (Brad Nelson, Tony Gwynn) of Jack Z's choosing. Basically a salary dump for Seattle. See if they would pitch in some money. Sign Randy Johnson to a 2 year $20 million contract to close for the Brewers Sign Felipe Lopez to a 1 year $1.5 million contract. Re-sign Russel Branyan after a thorough physical. Re-sign Kapler. Re-sign Shouse. Next years Lineup 2B- Ricky Weeks SS- J.J. Hardy 1B- Prince Fielder LF-Ryan Braun CF-Nick Swisher 3B-Adrian Beltre RF-Corey Hart C-Jason Kendall P- Bench C-Rivera CI-Branyan MI-Lopez OF-Kapler OF-Cabrera Starting Pitching Gallardo Vazquez Bush Parra McClung Bull Pen Villanueva Riske Torres Stetter Shouse Dillard/DiFellice CL-Randy Johnson AAA Arms- Kennedy, DiFellice/Dillard, Aguilar, Pena, Later in the year-Jeffries AAA Bats - Gamel, Escobar, Gillespie, Errecart, Cain, Brantley???
  20. And still make the Wild Card. I don't know if anyone's told you this but the division crown hasn't mattered in over 10 years.
  21. Am I the only person that finds it very funny every time some only mentions a players negetive attributes when a poster wants to discredit a guy? Yes he struck out 140 times. Yes, he had a low batting average. But he also hit 25 home runs in 120 games (5th best in MLB for CF although he played in about 1/4 less games), walked at a very high rate, played gold glove calibur CF and was a model team mate. But yeah the best way to describe him is as a player that hit under .250 and struck out 140 times.
  22. I wonder how much the Sox have soured on Nick Swisher and if Swisher can actually play CF decently. A deal of Bill Hall, Jeff Suppan plus a little extra for Swisher and Vazquez would be really nice. Swisher and Hall have basically the same contract only Swisher has an extra year and 10+ million and Vazquez and Suppan have basically the same contract. If Swisher could play CF decently and return to his 2007 form this deal would be awesome. It would also be nice to have another left-handed bat in the lineup.
  23. The more I think about it the more I like this idea. Unless a major arm or prospect was included like Kennedy I would have to take a flier and wait till next year. If Cameron would not have missed the first the first 25 games Cameron would have probably hit 30 bombs, stolen 20 bases and had a .800 OPS while playing the best Centerfield the Brewers have had since I don't even know. That is worth alot on any trade market. If he has another season like last year I bet he is considered a type A free agent at season's end.
  24. I wonder if the Brewers could dump Suppan or Bill Hall in the deal. Melky Cabrera had a huge season in 2006 as a 21 year old. I think that is why there is love for him. If the Brewers got 2006 Melky Cabrera or even the 2007 twenty two year old version and 2007 pre trade Betemit, I think this trade would be a no brainer. A good GM doesn't buy their players at the highest prices. He looks for Bargains. Right now Melky and Betemit are at low prices and the Yanks can't wait around to see if their prices rise. I would love to see a Cameron for Betemit, Cabrera and decent pitcher deal or like I said if we could do a Cameron and Suppan for Betemit and Cabrera I would definitely do it.
  25. I mentioned it on the first page but I thought I could bring it up here again. Randy Johnson. Not a type A free agent. No Draft picks. Older so probably not looking for a long term deal. and pitching 1 inning at a time might make him dominate once again. If I were to give closer type money to a pitcher this year it would be to the Big Unit.
