  1. Correct me if I am wrong on this but I also remember Darren and Bill talking about how Gagne was up for the fifth day in a row warming up in the St. Louis series after the 4 straight appearances and 64 pitches in the St. Louis/ Cincinatti run . Then he went out and pitched the following day and blew another save on his sixth day up and throwing.
  2. After watching this team lose spectacularly for most of my childhood, and at the begining of one of the most promising seasons since I have been alive you want to know if I think the Brewers should blow the team up and start over by trading one of the most coveted players in the league who will be a Brewer for at least 3 more seasons after this one? Yeah, why not I love that August and September Baseball when there is nothing to play for
  3. I think he was easily worth the risk for a 1 yr $10 million contract, and if I had the info right now I would still sign him to that contract. He was one of the better relievers out there this winter that would sign a one year deal. The Brewers definitely needed a closer. He was a closer with experience that was lights out as recently as last year that wore down after he got traded, in his first year back from injury. And the best part of it all When Gagne does end up saving 40 games for us this year we will offer him arbitration and somebody will end up giving him a huge contract and the brewers will get 2 more picks for him being a type-A Free Agent. That is just a guess but I believe arbitration compensation is built on the prior 2 years of stats for that particular player. I think we have seen the worst out of Gagne so far this season He has had 16 outings this season. 11 outing he has not allowed a run. 2 outtings he has allowed 1 run. 3 outings he has allowed 2-3 runs In those 3 outings of 2 or 3 runs -one was opening day with a new team facing perhaps the best 3,4,5 in the NL Lee, Ramirez, Fukudome -the second of the outings came on the heels of pitching 4 days in a row (I dont care if the pitcher says he is OK or not, but you do not throw a high velocity pitcher 4 days in a row). -the third of the outings came yesterday when he was getting squeezed and umpires were blowing calls. A tape of that 9th inning needs to be sent to the commisioner's office ASAP. In all actuality Gagne has been pretty effective IMO.Take out the the idiotic decision by Ned Yost of pitching Gagne 4 days in a row and gagne has a 4.49 ERA with some really bad luck on his side. The luck will turn for him.
  4. Loved Rob Deer- 3TO before 3TO was cool
  5. I went with a group of 4 people and no retros. I also talked with about 20 people from the game and no retros. This explains a little bit of it.
  6. Did you still get opening day with this pack? I just don't understand why Fan's choice packs get bumped for the 9 game packs, 4 game packs (I am assuming), and even some single game tickets. I am sitting in Terrace Box and only got around 5 bad days. Opening day (understandable), Cardinals May 10th, 2 Pirates games (Bobbleheads I believe) and September 26th cubbies game. Every other game is in the first 2 rows usually but definitely in the first 3 rows.
  7. That is good news just to keep Cabrera out of the NL and for the Prince Fielder Precedent. To Bad I don't think Boras will be moved so easily. Basically it looks like Cabrera gave up 1 year of arbitration for the long-term contract at 24. If he would have waited 2 years he could have got 30 million probably if he stayed healthy. I like this deal all around. Hopefully Prince will wake up, dump Boras, and sign a similar deal.
  8. They might have signed before we had to offer it to them otherwise we probably did offer them arbitration.
  9. I am not positive but am pretty sure he is not a type A Free Agent, because in order for a player to be a type A or Type B free agent the team (in this case the Giants) has to offer said Free Agent Arbitration. In Bonds Case considering he made 15 million last season and had a superb year, he would probably be making around the same amount this year if offered arbitration and he accepted. Which I believe he would do to stay in the place he has called home for the past 15 season and make great money on top of it. From what I can tell the Giants want nothing to do with Barry any more so Barry is probably just a regular Free Agent.
  10. Is anyone else suprised that Barry Bonds doesn't have a job yet? I just read an article http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3254672 And I find it very suprising that nobody has picked him up yet. Yes he used Steroids or HGH, nobody is denying that (except him) but so did Pettite, Tejada, Gagne and a host of others, and people don't care. It would be different if his skills had totally eroded him but the guy had the 4th highest OPS last season among players with over 450 Plate appearances. You're telling me nobody wants him to DH for them? On another note would you mind seeing him in Milwaukee? If the Brewers had a DH I would love to see him, but considering Braun is just learning left, the outfield is pretty much set and he is a defensive liability and a cancer on a very young and impressionable team, I would pass. Sorry in advance if this topic has already been brought up.
  11. I didn't like the Linebrink trade at all at first either. Actually I hated it. Then I got to thinking Suppan is going to be a Brewer for 3 more years, Yo has 6 years left on his Arby clock, Villanueva has 5 years left, Parra still has at least 6 years left. I believe Capuano and Bush are Brewers for at least 2 more years. And that doesn't include Vargas, Sheets or anyone else in the Brewers Rotation. What I am saying is Melvin's motive all along was probably to get 2 prospects that will be ready to help in 4-5 years instead of 1-2 while getting what was perceived a better bullpen arm for the stretch run. That is just my take on the trade 7 months later.
  12. I like the outfield of Hart, Hall, and Gwynn/Gross/Mench next season. Who plays where does not really matter to me. In no way would I sign another outfielder because the price to benefit would be rediculous and could be spent better else where. The last thing I would want to see is 7-10 million for 3 years spent on a Dave Roberts/Kenny Lofton/ Juan Pierre type. If we want that type of player out there why not save 6.5 million-9.5 million a year and try Gwynn out there. And to put Full disclosure out ther I am not the biggest Tony Gwynn fan.
  13. Well partially yes, and that is part of the problem; Wisconsonites have gone soft. I see 55K Mets fans managed to find sweatshirts before going to Shea, 36K went outside in Boston that night, and 32K braved the seasonal conditions at Jacobs Field. Baseball is a six month sport and therefore subject to weather variations, it's part of its charm. My experience Saturday - to say nothing of the amazing chessboard nature of the late innings - was rather desensitizing. It was September-quality baseball played in a generic thermostat vacuum. And partially no, because 40,000 people wake up Saturday morning and drive from LaCrosse, Eau Claire, Green Bay knowing they will see a baseball game no questions ask - no rainout, no voucher, no parking money sunk. Just a planned outing to see a baseball game guaranteed is the reasoning behind the roof investment. No one thinks "well, I'd really like to see the Brewers tonight but I'm not going to go because it's cold. I think all those people enjoy the cold to one degree or another (pun intended). Kudos to Minnesnowtans for green-lighting the outdoor park. Did you really use The Cleveland Indians as an example of why a roof in Milwaukee is a bad thing? Talk about a short term memory.
  14. They should bring Wickman back and for the seventh inning stretch have an eating contest between Wickman, King and Kobeyashi
  15. Good post all together but I can't let this go. Did you not see the Jeff Suppan, Gill Meche, Jason Marquis and Vicente Padilla signings of a year ago? Now Gill Meche and Jason Marquis have pitched well above historical patterns. However those 4 represent a total of 15 years and $151.75 million of salaries
  16. My question is when does Inman get shut down? At 153 innings already he is about 2 starts over when you would normally think he would be shut down. He pitched 110 innings last season. At 20 years old you would think that they would keep with the pattern of trying to add 25-30 innings per year. Well that limit would be 135-140. He probably has 1 more regular season scheduled start and the missions are in the hunt for the AA playoffs. If they make the playoffs he could potetially get 1-3 more additional starts and end up with 170-175 innings on his arm this year. I hope the Padres shut him down soon. He had a hell of a year and would be a shame to be that reckless with a talent such as Will Inman
  17. Month long suicide beards? Sounds like fun but I think the employer would frown upon that. I'll go with the beard but I would have to keep it somewhat trimmed. I don't know if that would go against the point behind the beard-a-thon.
  18. I could see him being a David Kryzel part of a trade. Not much more.
  19. How about a retro of Lenny Harris throwing Alex Sanchez through a wall. That would be a great bobble in my opinion
  20. Ned Yost Anybody?? anybody?? No?? OK
  21. No offense to Sheets but Zambrano will be 26 when he starts his contract and has pitched 210+ innings each season over the past 5 seasons. Sheets will be 30 when he starts his next contract and hasn't had 160 innings pitched in any of his previous 3 seasons. In terms of contract stature there is no comparison. Zambrano is worth more. If Sheets costs more than 10-12 million a year the Brewers should look at other options.
  22. But a 5 year old playing with a kid 1 month younger and who knows the difference physically is not as dangerous? Again the grouping of ages in the league is wrong. You say your kid is 11 and as physically imposing as a 13 year old. How is that any different than him playing with a small 9 year old. I think the original poster has more of a problem with his son's team not winning than the safety of the children.
  23. No offense Big Reed. But get over it. Your son does not play against him directly, there are no awards at the end of the season, your son is presumably in a much better league later on. I just don't get why you are hell bent on making an ass out of yourself and being that parent that takes little league soccer way to seriously. It just doesn't seem like it would be worth the time, effort or the frustration that it is clearly causing you. Take a deep breath and tell your son to have a good time while he is out there.
  24. Another thing to note and I am not totally sure its still in place with the Waiver transactions, but He has a not trade clause. And he has demonstrated in the past that he likes to use the no trade clause. I doubt he is going anywhere unless it is to the Yanks, Red Sox or Dodgers.
