  1. Someone may have already mentioned this, but with many of the upper-level players, they have contracts with one or more memorabilia companies outlining what they can and can't sign. If I pay Braun for an exclusive autograph deal, I want something that distinguishes my items from what he signs for everybody else. Some players will personalize things that aren't signed through their company, others will do things like add their uniform number or "Go Brewers" or something similar. Some guys won't sign baseballs on sweet spots if you haven't paid or bought it through one of their authorized companies. Braun is just one of those guys. When he was in the minors, he was very good at signing virtually everything. Right before he was called up he signed a deal with Tristar (I believe) which prevented him from doing specific autos unofficially. So in this case it wasn't really the Brewers' fault. If you want to blame someone (and I don't think anyone really deserves blame as this happens all over sports), blame either Braun or the memorabilia company who makes him personalize the stuff. He's protecting his brand and his company or companies are protecting their investment in his autographed items.
  2. I've asked for extra stuff. This year I was able to get $100 extra ticket bank + 2 courtisde tickets to a game. I also could have traded the concession gift cards ($400 in my case) for a parking pass (declined since I sell half my tickets). The trick is to wait as long as possible to renew. They'll be desperate once again this offseason. Just point out all the promotions they give to the general public ($10 tickets, all-you-can-eat) and say shouldn't season ticket holders get some of those perks?
  3. Shocked that there is no Gallardo this year. Replace Suppan with him and that would be a very nice lineup.
  4. One thing I always noticed about Prince was that at no time at any of the 30-40 games that I went to last year did he get booed by the crowd here that seems to love to boo everyone for any little thing they do wrong. Weeks makes an error and the crowd is on him. Prince does the same and after the initial "that hurt us" gasp, it's like all is forgotten. Same thing when he'd strike out 3 times or leave the bases loaded with a bad AB. Other guys would get the boos but Prince seemed to always get a pass. So while he may not be embraced as a huge crowd favorite like Braun is, I still think he is liked by the vast majority of fans and they want to see him do well.
  5. Keep in mind that they have to hold a lot of Opening Day tickets for full and partial season ticket holders. I have a 20-pack and just got the form in the mail today to order extra Opening Day tickets. The letter said the forum had to be returned by 2/6 to guarantee OD tickets.
  6. I saw Prince 2 weeks ago in Vegas (he was signing autographs at the CES convention). I did remember thinking that he looked like he lost a few pounds. Nowhere near how he looked when he first was called up, but there was definitely a difference from last year.
  7. While the first row will be good for seeing the costumes, etc... be prepared to have a sore neck from looking up for most of the show as a lot of the action will be way above you down in the front row. I actually just got back from Vegas (was there for CES) yesterday and saw Mystere from the cheap seats. Personally I was pretty bored with the entire show - I was expecting much more for as great as everyone says it is and the prices they charge, but to each his own I guess.
  8. Since they started letting that coin company sponsor the singing of God Bless America on Sundays, anything goes for the almighty $.

  10. nice low risk/high reward signing
  11. Deals like this make the Braun deal seem like the steal of the century.
  12. CC said the Yankees give him the best shot at winning a championship, which is the reason he picked them. Sure, CC, we believe that...
  13. As long as they don't run out of $ or a salary cap is instituted (neither of which are likely anytime soon), I don't see how they are hurting themselves. Now if they are hurting the game, that's another question...
  14. I like the Big Unit on 620. He's hilarious with his water softener and arch support plugs. The callers are like me and don't sound all educated to make me feel dumb. And the commercials every 4 minutes mean I don't have to concentrate for too long of a time on any single topic. guy> seriously, as for 540 and 1250, both stations have positives and (usually more) negatives. i usually stick to the national stuff on XM for the most part.

  16. $60-70m payroll the next 2 years, then spend some money and "go for it" in 2011. That's all this team/market can hope for - have .500 seasons and make a playoff run every 2-3 years.
  17. I'm guessing payroll this year will be around $75m. And probably the same next year as well. Let more of the young guys get some experience and then "go for it" again in 2011.
  18. Once again, this team simply cannot afford to make a run like last year every year. It's simple economics. Just because we lose CC and the Cubs might sign Peavy doesn't mean we have to take drastic measures. This team is built to have consistently good seasons (around .500) and to "go for it" every 2-3 years. Last year was our "go for it" year. We should not expect another playoff run next year, or even likely the year after that. CC made the right move for his family and for the players union. He simply could not have left a huge offer like that on the table. I have no problem with him taking the deal and am happy for him. It gets him out of the NL too which is nice.
  19. Isn't pretty much common knowledge that last year was our "going for it" year? Sure we made a token offer to CC but nobody expects him or Sheets to be here next year. Let the Cubs do what they want, give up their young guys, etc... Sure they might win the division a few more times, but in 2-3 years when we load up to "go for it" again, we'll be very happy we don't have all that $ tied up in one player. This team cannot afford to have that mentality. It's sad, but true. We have to pick our spots like last year.
  20. Nice. I own one of the other 2 Sheets Bears jerseys (and a Jenkins as well).
  21. try to get a section with fewer seats per row. less instances of standing when people need to leave in the middle of an inning (if you are near the aisle) or less people to ask to get up everytime you leave (if you are in the middle). i still think club infield is the best deal if you buy a package where the seats are much cheaper than face value.

  23. Another LOTF experience: Sent in a Yount authentic pinstripe home jersey to get signed. Had explicit instructions for ink color and autograph placement. Got it today and everything was perfect. Looks nice. Thinking about doing a huge framed piece with both the Yount and a Braun auto'd retro jersey I have as well.
  24. While not free, I always recommend people get their own domain, get a cheap hosting plan and do it all yourself. You can have POP/IMAP/webmail, push for your smartphone, etc... Plus it just looks more professional than using hotmail and the rest. Plus with your own domain, you can do things like set up aliases to stop spam. so you use amazon@yourdomain.com when you buy from amazon, brewerfan@yourdomain.com for this site. Then when you get spam addressed to brewerfan@yourdomain.com, you know where they stole/bought/otherwise obtained your address from and can block it at the server level.
