  1. I completely agree about staying away from Cardinal pitchers that Duncan has resurected. Once these guys leave him (Suppan and Looper) they go back to their old sucky ways. I also agree that Melvin has to stop picking up all these soft tossers. From Suppan to Looper Ive had enough of guys that cant strike anyone out. This organization needs some power arms.
  2. Melvin does deserve a lot of blame for this pitching staff. I thought this rotation was garbage to begin the season and that has shown to be true. Parra falling apart was unexpected as was the Bush injury but is anyone at all surprised that Suppan and Looper are bad. Doug needs to start focusing more on young power pitchers with upside; enough of these soft tossers like Suppan, Looper and Bush. This staff reminds me of the teams Melvin had in Texas where they had great offenses and no pitching. Back then his staff ace was John Burkett who is basically a better version of Suppan. I fear that Melvin may not have the ability to prpoerly evaluate pitching and if that is true we are in big trouble not just this year but for the forseeable future. I was happy to see us drafting more pitchers the last few years but so far I dont see any sure things. On a side note didnt we draft Jeffress over Drabek or were they in different drafts? Kyle Drabek is exactly the type of young power arm that this organization lacks.
  3. I blame Mark A for the mess we are in. He is so desperate to be relevant that he is forcing Melvin to do something. This team is just not good enough and trading Weeks or Escobar for Washburn wont change that. Melvin cant serious believe that this team is a serious contender and thats why the owner must be pushing the buttons.
  4. I blame Mark A for this entire situation. He is just so desperate to be relevant that he has become irrational. Trading Weeks or Escobar for Washburn would be flat out stupid. Im almost at the point where I want the team to keep losing so Melvin cant do anything stupid.
  5. As far as Im concerned they cant fire this clown soon enough. He has done a terrible job and his aloof personality doesnt help either. Here are my reasons why I cant stand Macha: 1 Kendall still plays too much- when is this organization gonna realize that the guy is flat out terrible. He is arguably the worst everyday offensive player in the game and his defense has been below average as well this year. I dont want to hear anyone about how well Kendall handles a staff; if he is so good why is our pitching so bad. Top flight cathers like Mauer dont even start every game yet Kendall as awful as he is plays practically every game. 2 Macha just doesnt like young players- I dont think this can be disputed at this point; his comments about Melvin putting him in a "zim zam" and being flummoxed about how to handle Gamel tells me he is clueless and just doesnt like young players. He also stated Suppan opening day because he was worried that our ace Gallardo couldnt handle the opening day assignment. This tells me that Macha will choose the veteran over the young guy whenever possible. 3 His handling of Gallardo- Yo pitched 24 innings last year and is so ever important to the future of this franchise yet Macha has abused him; how many times will gallardo be asked to pitch that extra inning when his pitch count is over 100. This shows that Macha has little to no regard for the future of this franchise.
  6. Gamel for Davis? Please tell me thats a joke.
  7. Hart was awful in the second half of 2008 so Melvin should have known to trade him for pitching while he still had value. In the case of Hardy I dont really blame Melvin for not seeing that he would be awful in 2009 but at this point his value is not very high.
  8. I have to admit that it baffles me that anyone thinks McClung is any good at all. The guy walks the ballpark and cant pitch an inning in under 20 pitches ever. Sadly he was a better option than Smith and Burns but that isnt saying much.
  9. We have absolutely no need for Lopez after the season. Weeks will be back to play second and Lopez wants to play every day. I will gladly take the compensation pick for him.
  10. Happy Birthday Mat. Cant wait to see you back in a Brewers uniform.
  11. I like Melvin but he really has to take some heat for putting together this awful pitching staff. Its not like we have had a ton of injuries either. The inability to develop arms has destroyed this team. He also kept Hart and Hardy a season too long where Hart must have no value whatsoever and Hardy's value is much lower with only one season till free agency.
  12. What a shock seeing Looper inplode in the 6th inning. Once again this team is showing that they are mediocre at best. They would have to be out of their minds to gut the farm system for any pitcher.
  13. I hate the way Macha has handled both Gallardo and Parra. There have been too many times where he has pushed the envelope and asked them to throw that one extra inning. Gallardo pitched 24 innings last season and he is a key to the franchises success for years to come. He completely needs to be handled with care this season even if that jeopardizes our playoff hopes.
  14. Hopefully McClung isnt hurt too bad but I dont exactly see this as a bad loss. I dont think the guy is any good at all and personally I cant stand watching him pitch.
  15. Kazmir would clearly be an improvement over what we have but I would stay away. He has a sizeable contract and has arm issues. He also walks way too many which doesnt allow him to throw enough innings. Too many warning signs in my opinion for us to take this gamble.
  16. When the Brewers have some .700 OPS guy who plays average to below average defense in CF people will realize what a great Brewer Cameron has been. I just dont understand how he gets lumped in with the likes of Suppan and Hall as a "bad contract". Cameron has been worth every penny we have paid him and more. I would like to see him back next season but I would consider trading him if we got the right package.
  17. Your saying your sixth sense sees Gamel as the next Robideaux or Meyer? Im sorry but that is completely ridiculous. All you have to do is watch Gamel swing and you can see he is a natural. He will be a great hitter and I stand by that prediction.
  18. I think the time has come where we really need to consider selling. We would all like to contend but lets face the facts; we are in 4th place and have been bad for two full months now. Its time to serious consider becoming a seller and seeing what we can get for guys like Hoffman and possibly Looper if anyone wants him. Teams are always desperate for bullpen arms at the deadline and Hoffman could net us a serious return.
  19. Youve really got to love a manager with the insight to bat his worst hitter leadoff.
  20. I hope the rumor that Melvin wont trade Gamel or Escobar are true. I would be heartbroken if Gamel was traded. Better to just ride it out with who we have and make another run next season.
  21. I love Gamel and think he is going to be an absolute star especially if he can stick at third which I think he can. I would take Gamel over both Wallace and LaPorta.
  22. This is exactly how I feel. After Sal Bando and Dean Taylor I cant say anything too bad about Doug Melvin. He clearly has his faults like all GMs but there really arent too many better.
  23. I havent read the entire thread but I will comment on Melvin anyway. I have been critical of Doug plenty of times over the last few years but I still think he is an excellent GM and I dont want him fired. My criticisms of him are his stubbornness in regards to Yost (he should have been fired a long time before he was) and his pitching staffs. Melvin has never put together a real good staff. From his times in Texas when John Burkett was his number one starter to his time in Milwaukee where Gallardo is the only stud starter he has developed. Melvin has always had great offenses and he is great in picking up undervalued guys like McGehee and Podsednik off the scrap heap but he has yet to show that he can put together a top flight pitching staff. Still he has helped us go from laughingstock to contender and I just think the odds of us getting someone better are not good. If we were gonna let him go we had our guy in Jack Z. Now I dont see any better candidates and Doug is definitely well above average so we need to keep him.
  24. Baseball is not like basketball where you can just build around one or two guys. This team has many holes and Roy Halladay is not the difference between us being contenders and world series champions. I could understand this potential deal if were better but this team is flat out mediocre.
  25. Capps acted like his loser team just clinched the pennant. Its obvious these teams dont like one another. They are still a last place team and we are still very very mediocre. Doug has to be out of his mind if he thinks we are one pithcer away from being a legitimate world series contender. We may very well be the 4th best team in our own division.
