  1. Ben needs the Brewers and the Brewers need Ben. Lets make this happen.
  2. What is the fascination with Cabrera. The guy has never shown the ability to throw strikes and I doubt he ever will. I would be willing to give him a minor league deal but I wouldnt guarantee him anything. As far as making him or McClung the closer thats a huge mistake. A closer must be able to throw strikes and these guys dont.
  3. Im definitely concerned with the lack of activity so far this offseason but there doesnt seem to be much going on other than the big markets signing guys. Im still holding out hope that we will resign Sheets and possibly sign Fuentes as well.
  4. Melvin really needs to make amends and get Ben back in the fold. We can probably get him for a two yr deal and the money shouldnt be overly prohibitive. When you really look closely at the other options it makes total sense for the Brewers to resign Sheets.
  5. The Brewers will be substantially worse if they make this trade. If they can get a nice return for Cameron thats fine but taking a 5th outfielder and an overpaid scrub pitcher in return makes no sense. Worst case scenario is the Brewers keep Cameron for one more season and have a top flight CF. To just give him away for scraps makes no sense in any way.
  6. What exactly do the Brewers see in Igawa? The guy has been a complete failure each chance he has gotten in the majors. Its not like the guy has great stuff and is young and unpolished. He is 28 and his stuff is lackluster to say the least. The yankees fans I know have been laughing at me for days about this and I cant exactly argue. I wouldnt want Igawa on a minor league contract much less paying him several mil per year. The yankees are desperate for a CF and for us to receive anything less than Ian kennedy makes me really question what Melvin is thinking.
  7. There is little to no doubt in my mind that this trade is nothing more than a salary dump and that Attanassio has been killed by the falling stock market. You've got nothing to base this on, and has been pointed out, it's not like the players salaries are coming out of Attanasio's pocket, or being funded by his other buisnesses.I have plenty to base this on. I work in the business and know firsthand how everyone is suffering. It is not possible to be in the money management business and to have not suffered losses the last few months. The Brewers are one of many teams that are cutting payroll due to the economy. This trade cannot be explained away as anything other than a pure salary dump. Taking back Igawa makes no sense at all for this reason since he is due 12 mil over the next 3 years and he is a complete stiff.
  8. This quote sums it up for me. Ive seen Igawa pitch several times and I can say that he is definitely AAAA quality. Melvin would have to be out of his mind to take Igawa unless the yankees pay his entire contract. 12 mil for 3 yrs of Igawa is a complete waste of money. There is little to no doubt in my mind that this trade is nothing more than a salary dump and that Attanassio has been killed by the falling stock market. I dont expect the team to spend any real money this offseason which is a shame but thats how I see things.
  9. Cameron would definitely be at least a type B and I think there is a decent chance he would be a type A. This is just one more reason why trading him straight up for melky counsell makes no sense.
  10. Suppan is not a reason why you shouldnt seen free agent pitchers. He just happens to be a bad pitcher that shouldnt have been signed at all.
  11. What exactly has cabrera ever shown that tells you he will be better than Cameron?
  12. If defense was irrelevant Ibanez would be considered better than Cameron because he is a better hitter. Since this is not beer league softball cameron has much more value than Ibanez and the fact that Cameron only has a one yr deal makes him that much more valuable. With the yankees being so desperate for a CF we should really be able to get much more than cabrera in return. We should at the very least be able to get Kennedy since he has no spot with that team anyway.
  13. I would take Jenkins back as a 4th outfielder.
  14. I dont like this move at all from the Phillies standpoint. Burrell could have been had for a similar deal if not less and they gave up a draft pick. Add in the fact that Ibanez is much older and just as bad in the field and it all adds up to a bad deal.
  15. The only reason Sheets wouldnt be interested in coming back is because we havent shown him any love and respect. The fact that he was emotional after the season ended shows how much he has loved playing in Milwaukee and if Melvin would just show Ben some respect and tell him how much he is wanted and needed I am sure Ben would reconsider.
  16. If we were willing to give CC the money we should be willing to spend it on other top flight players. As far as having 20 million to spend I dont see us using the money. we will probably just add a stiff like Moyer or Garland for 5 mil or so and be done. If we arent willing to give Sheets the money I dont think we will be signing or trading for any established star players. As of now i see this team winning approximately 75 games and that is sad.
  17. Its pretty hard not to panic when we refuse to negotiate with Ben Sheets and Melvin mentions guys like Jaime Moyer. Its hard not to panic when we are about to have a complete salary dump with Cameron. So far we have signed the likes of Swindle, Julio, and Coffey and are on the verge of losing Sheets and Cameron with CC already out the door. If we sign a Moyer or Garland or any of these other third tier stiffs while Sheets leaves we will have severely weakened our rotation. CF is a complete mess with Melky Counsell replacing Cameron. I dont get all this talk about its early when we seem to be taking steps backward every day. We only seem to be searching the trash bin for replacements for stars and although its early nothing good has happened so far. We waited so long to have a playoff team and here we are now trading for the likes of Melky Counsell. yes the offseason is still ongoing but the signs are not good. I am sorry for being so negative but I am very sad with the thoughts of losing Sheets and not adding a viable replacement.
  18. I agree with this statement completely. When Melvin says he is looking at the likes of Jaime Moyer yet wont offer Sheets a deal I really question what is going on. I think we could sign Sheets and Fuentes/Hoffman and be in position to make the playoffs again next season. Instead we are dumping salary (Cameron) and looking at retreads instead of signing Sheets who is great. On one hand the Brewers wanted to keep CC and compete but since we lost him it seems like we have decided to break down this team and start over. None of this makes any sense to me at all and I really wish someone would give a logical explanation as to what is going on with this team. We waited so long to make the playoffs that I would hate to see us become the pirates again just one season later when we still have a great young nucleus of players.
  19. Just sign Sheets already. Enough of the over the hill stiffs like Moyer and injured guys like Smoltz. What is wrong with this organization. we were willing to pay CC which means we have some money to spend yet wont even make an offer to Ben Sheets who is as good as sabathia. Its about time Melvin wakes up unless he wants to be a bottom feeding organization again like the Pirates.
  20. I have no problem taking a flier on an arm but I wonder if this along with the Coffey, Swindle, and Julio signings means we are going to have a complete scrap heap bullpen. I dont think we are going to spend on a closer but I hope Im wrong.
  21. For what its worth they keep reporting this cameron deal as done on several NY radio stations. Hopefully they are wrong because if its Cameron for cabrera straight up Melvin needs to have his head examined.
  22. I have seen Cabrera play a lot the last few seasons and I can say that he is garbage; maybe a very slightly better Gwynn Jr but thats about it. He was so bad last season that they sent him to the minors in favor of the imortal Brett Gardner. If cabrera cant even keep his job over Brett Gardner we have no buisness trading cameron for him. If the Brewers would just resign Sheets, keep Cameron and add a closer we can still contend. There is no reason to throw away 2009 just because CC is gone. It seems like the Brewers decided that they would either keep CC and go for it or give away 2009 altogether and that just makes no sense.
  23. Cameron has value to the Brewers as a well above avg CF. We dont have to trade him especially for trash like cabrera. If the yankees dont want to give us a viable pitcher meaning Hughes or Kennedy they can keep cabrera and let him be their CF. We have nothing to gain by trading Cameron unless we get a legit pitcher back.
  24. This basically sums it all up for me. Other than being lefthanded what good is cabrera and does it matter if he is lefthanded when he cant hit. Craig Counsell bats lefthanded as well but I dont want him in the lineup either. This trade if it goes down straight up is nothing more than a salary dump and that is very disappointing. Are we just completely giving up on 2009 already because that is shocking to me after making the playoffs this past season.
