  1. Listen Peavy has thrown a lot of innings over the years and his mechanics are not exactly smooth. Can this team really afford his contract if he gets hurt. I would far rather resign Hardy and trade Escobar for a good young starter than trade for Peavy and blow all of our payroll flexibilty for years to come.
  2. Why would we trade JJ Hardy for a middle reliever and an awful starter. Bob Ryan is a moron.
  3. This team doesnt need to make any moves for pr reasons. We have been selling tickets as well and I just dont see where Peavy would add to the bottom line. We really cant afford to gut our depth for one guy. We did it last year to get CC but we were more deperate then having not made the playoffs for 26 years. I also agree that Parra going forward might not be that much worse than Peavy and for a lot less money. This potential move screams desperation to me.
  4. I completely agree with this sentiment. I dont want to have that kind of money tied up into a pitcher with bad mechanics. Also if we trade Hart we will really have a weak lineup. We would be far better off spending our money to lock up guys like Hardy and Gallardo long term. Buying out 2 years of Gallardos free agency years would be a better investment than Peavy. This situation sounds like it has Attansios fingerprints all over it. Melvin is a franchise builder while Attanasio is a go for it kind of owner at all costs. This deal on the heels of the CC deal could really hurt any chances we have of being good beyond 2010.
  5. I really fear that we will overpay to get Peavy. The last thing this team needs to do is clean out the farm system in order to land Peavy who makes too much money for my taste. I would much rather spend the money to lock JJ up long term.
  6. So Macha makes the statement "The players make out the lineup" meaning that you will not be in the lineup if you are not producing. Apparently Kendall is somehow producing in the eyes of Macha. Im sorry but this guy has got to be replaced. I think there is a very good chance that his OBP for the season is well below 300. That is just not acceptable. What is it gonna take for Macha and Melvin to see that Kendall is an automatic out and the team cant afford his dead spot in the lineup on an everyday basis. Why was Kendall allowed to hit down a run today with two runners on and two outs. Corey Hart slumps and he sits. JJ Hardy slumped earlier in the season and he sat. Yet somehow Kendall just never sits.
  7. The more Counsell plays the more he is going to get exposed as the weak offensive player that he is. I really dont think we can afford to have him as our main leadoff hitter for the better part of the season.
  8. Rivera should be catching Parra. He caught him in the minors and should be catching him now. Kendall is essentially an automatic out at this point. I dont have any more confidence in him than I do the pitchers spot in the lineup. As far as who should be the catcher next season I vote for Benji Molina. He is a free agent and we may be able to get him for approximately 2 years 10 mil or so. That would be an excellent signing as Molina is good both offensively and defensively. No lineup can afford to have a guy like Kendall playing everyday.
  9. Now that we have a Corey Hart thread I thought it might be appropriate to have a thread on the biggest albatross in this lineup, Jason Kendall. How much longer will we continue to play him 4 out of every 5 games. He is essentially an automatic out who rarely hits a ball out of the infield and his defense has not exactly been good enough to overlook his offensive ineptitude. Between Kendall, Hart, 2nd base, and Hall if he continues to play nearly every day our lineup does not exactly look strong. Mike Rivera seems to hit the ball hard every game he plays and needs to play much more unless Kendall suddenly learns to hit which is doubtful at this point. Can this team stay in contention with Kendall playing every day when we have already lost one of our best offensive players in Rickie Weeks? I for one am not sure that we can.
  10. Trading for Peavy would be beyond risky for this franchise. Peavys's mechanics are not exactly sound so you really have to worry about the potential for injury which would kill us. If we trade several young studs for him and he does get hurt we are in big trouble. He will be taking up too much of our payroll and is too big of a risk for us to make a deal like this. Yes Peavy is very good but he is not great outside of Petco and his mechanics suggest problems in the future. For those reasons I would stay away from this deal unless it was at a deep discount which I dont see happening.
  11. I really hope Jj comes back quickly. I dont want to see Counsell playing everyday much longer and I dont want Hall in there either.
  12. I like Parra but he really has to change the way he pitches. He pitches like Suppan or Doug Davis, always nibbling like he is afraid of contact. Those guys have to pitch that way because they have below average stuff but Parra has well above average stuff especially for a lefthander. Someone has to sit Parra down and get it into his head that he has the stuff to be great; he pitches like he has no confidence and is just hoping to get guys out. I really see this as a mental situation for Parra. He needs to pitch more aggressively and challenge hitters in order to reach his vast potential. If he starts to do this he will be just fine; if he insists on pitching scared and nibbling he will never become the pitcher we all know he can become.
  13. This is my opinion of Hall; he is at his best when he is looking to go the other way where he has shown tremendous power in the past. Unfortunately he refuses to even attempt to change his batting style and has looked clueless for quite some time now. As far as Im concerned he should only play against lefties and as a defensive replacement late in games for Gamel. The Mat Gamel era is upon is; you only need to watch this kid bat once or twice to see that he is special.
  14. Parra has great stuff, he just needs to learn how to pitch. Nibbling is for guys like Suppan who cant get guys out any other way. Its frustrating watching Parra who has top flight stuff pitching like he is afraid of contact.
  15. The thing I cant stand about Parra is how he nibbles like he is Suppan or Doug Davis. Those guys nibble because they have below average stuff but Parra has well above average stuff especially for a lefthander. He really is not enjoyable to watch pitch at all.
  16. I was told that the Mets were interested. I dont know if they pulled out or not but that would have been a good landing spot for Nelson. At any rate good luck Brad and heres hoping you catch on in Seattle soon.
  17. I am very sad. I have always been a big Weeks fan and when he finally starts to realize his potential this happens. Rickie if you ever get around to reading this I would just like to wish you a speddy recovery and hope you will be a Brewer for years to come. I just feel so bad for Rickie. He has worked so hard and for this to happen it just flat out sucks for the team and especially for Rickie himself.
  18. Colby, do you expect Seid to be similar to Jack Z in his drafting style meaning power bats and high upside arms. The last thing I want to see is the Brewers taking the safe route and picking polished college guys with little to no upside like Kyle Peterson. Im probably overreacting but Im very nervous about this first draft without Jack Z running the show. I am hoping the team takes an impact bat in the first round or a pitcher with high upside. I personally prefer the high school route since the upside is usually higher and I would avoid the polished low upside choices in the early rounds if at all possible. As far as Braun is concerned I agree that he was and still is the right pick. Looks to me like Maybin is on his way to becoming a bust and Bruce while very good is no better than Braun.
  19. I hope Nelson does well. Cant really blame a young player for not being an effective pinch hitter when he used to playing every day. He had a very nice spring and has a chance of becoming a decent offensive player. Unfortunately we really had no room for him and he would never have had a real shot at an everyday job as a Brewer.
  20. The Mets are interested in Nelson.
  21. I just spoke to a friend of mine in Long Island and he hasnt seen one cartwheel being turned as of yet. If he sees one I will pass on the news.
  22. I didnt like the decision to start Hall in LF and said so at the time. I didnt like the decision because Hall has been gold glove quality at third and he shouldnt be moved. It was a bad decision regardless of who made it.
  23. How happy must Arod be. This deflects a ton of criticism from him.
  24. If Braun was really looking to leave Milwaukee he wouldnt have signed a contract that bought out two free agency years. Its obvious by now that he is confident in his abilities yet he was willing to leave money on the table to stay here and be the face of the franchise for years to come. I have a serious problem with anyone criticizing Braun when he has made a serious commitment to this organization. I truly believe that Mark A will pony up when the time comes to make sure that Braun is a career Brewer. Players and people like Braun and Evan Longoria are rare in sports; true superstars that arent out chasing every dollar.
  25. When I say competent outfielder I mean offensively. Yes Duffy can play defense but his offense is less than ideal.
