  1. Listen I dont want Swishers contract but he might be headed here anyway. I am starting to get really concerned about this offseason.
  2. Garland is this years version of Suppan. He will probably get 4 yrs because of his durability but he is an avg pitcher at best. My biggest fear is giving a guy like this a contract similar to Suppan where we are stuck with avg to below avg performance for big money. Please Melvin stay away from guys like Garland. We need to either keep Sabathia which is highly unlikely or sign Sheets which is a gamble im willing to take. Unfortunately I have a bad feeling Melvin will get desperate and overpay a guy like Garland which will not help this team at all.
  3. Dont be surprised if Swisher is traded to the Crew for Cameron.
  4. He isnt going to the Dodgers. The Dodgers owner has money problems and thats why they didnt trade for CC last yr. The owner didnt want to pay the 5 million left on Sabathias contract and the only reason they traded for ramirez is the Red Sox picked up the rest of his salary. The Angels on the other hand have the money and the desire to land CC. The Yankees only real challenger financially for CC will be the Angels. The only way he ends up with the Brewers is if the Angels dont go all out and he really really despises N.Y.
  5. I really hope we resign Sheets. We can probably get him for half of what it will cost CC and Sheets is just as good. I will be very upset if we let our ace go. CC is either going to Anaheim or NY so we really need to focus on Ben. A rotation of Sheets, Gallardo, Parra, Bush, Suppan is good enough to make the playoffs. The last thing we need is for Sheets to go to Houston while we get desperate and overpay for a guy like Garland.
  6. I would hate to spend big money on medicroty. Every year there are pitchers like Suppan, Silva, or Washburn that end up getting way more than they are worth and I fear the Brewers signing a guy like that to make up for the loss of Sheets and Sabathia. We already have one albatross of a contract with Suppan and the last thing we can afford is another one like Garland. Sabathia is most likely out of reach financially and I can live with that but we really need to make an effort to resign Sheets. Im willing to take a chance on Ben because he is a great pitcher vs paying a 5th starter type 10 mil per year because of durability.
  7. I was curious to hear what everyones biggest fears are regarding this offseason. My biggest fear is losing Sheets and Sabathia and Melvin getting desperate enough where he overpays for another Suppan type or closer. I am very concerned that if we dont resign one of our two aces we will end up giving a 10 mil plus per year deal to a Garland or a Fuentes and that would make us a much weaker team going forward. My theory regarding free agents has always been either sign the top of the line types like Sheets and Sabathia or look for bargains on short term deals. Overpaying for mediocrity is the worst strategy possible and I fear that is what we will do if we lose out on Sheets and Sabathia.
  8. I will be extremely angry if the Padres trade Peavy to the cubs for the likes of Pie and Samardzija. If this trade happens and we lose CC and Sheets we may as well start a whole new rebuilding job because we will have no shot of beating out the cubs for the forseeable future.
  9. If we are looking to contend next yr we dont make this trade. Melky is a big step down from Cameron defensively and offensively its not even close. Melky is really no more than a 5th outfielder. Im also not a big fan of Kennedy but I would take him before I would take Cabrera.
  10. I live in New York so I see plenty of Melky Cabrera and I want no part of him. The guy cant hit and doesnt walk nearly enough. His defense isnt so good either so lets just keep Cameron and get draft picks for him after next season.
  11. Melky Cabrera is no better than Gwynn. Id rather keep Cameron that take Cabrera in exchange for him.
  12. Definitely the right move. One yr for 10 million is defintely a good situation for the Brewers. Its nice to have at least one gold glove caliber player on the team.
  13. colbyjack, thanks for setting the record straight. I remember what this organization was before Jack Z came along and I fear it happening again. I really cant believe anyone would not realize what a great job Jack did as Brewers scouting director. He will be sorely missed and we really have to hope that the next guy turns out nearly as well as Jack did.
  14. Bradley would be perfect if he wasnt always hurt and always a jerk. Then again if he wasnt a bad guy he would be out of our price range.

  17. I wouldnt pay a closer 10 mil per yr for the 3 or 4 yrs that it will take so I would pass on Fuentes. As far as Byrd is concerned he is another Suppan so no thanks there. My theory with free agents is this; either sign an elite guy like Sabathia or focus on sleepers like a Juan Cruz. We should never ever sign mediocre free agents like Suppan or in this case Byrd for big money.

  20. This scouting situation is very concerning to me. I really hope we dont wind up with someone that will be picking the likes of Kenny Felder and Antone Williamson in the first round. The draft will always be the lifeblood of this organization so hopefully Melvin hires the right guy. It really cant be underestimated how big of a loss Jack Z was.
  21. Its amazing how good Macha looks when the other candidates were Brenly and Randolph.
  22. Unless we can get an amazing package for him I see no reason why we should trade Fielder now. We have no other viable left handed power bats in the lineup and trading Prince would really kill an already inconsistent offense. If we plan on contending again next season we are far better off with Prince. Now if we were offered a great deal we should probably do it but I see no reason to trade Fielder for anything less than a great deal.
  23. Randolph is strategically inept and the players revolted against him leading to his firing. He is as bad if not worse than Brenly.
  24. How many managers have there been that have won despite there in game deficiencies. Any dope would have won with Johnson and Schilling. I would much rather have a guy like Manny Acta who is very good strategically but has had to manage terrible teams in washington. Im sure if a guy like this was available Melvin wouldnt want him because he has a bad W/L record and that is just completely shortsighted.
  25. Ive watched so many Brewers games the last few years that I am sure I deserve the job if that is the main qualification. I am also qualified because I wont be bunting in the 5th inning or earlier of every game.
