  1. If its in place Im surprised we dont know who is coming back yet. Hopefully it isnt a 27 y/o long reliever and a slap hitting MI with no OBP skills.
  2. If this deal allows us to get Jordan Zimmerman and we believe we can extend him due somewhat to his WI roots, then I dont care who we get for Gallardo, its a huge upgrade. Ok, I do care who we get so long as it back fills somewhat what we would hypothetically give for Zimmerman.
  3. In other words, Strasburg was not free to sign with any other team. Generally speaking his salary was almost set before he signed the contract, by the arbitration system. Gallardo got 5.5 in his second year but he is well past that point in his career so if he were a FA he would be able to sign with any team he wanted, thereby driving his price up in terms of dollars and years. $13mil for a 1-year commitment on Gallardo was an easy decision. In the FA market he would most likely be looking for 4yrs 50-60mil.
  4. It was Strasburg's 2nd Arby year. In Gallardo's 2nd Arby year he got 5.5. I'd say Melvin has a handle on things.
  5. The BBWA is so stupid. They wont vote for guys like Bonds, Clemens and Palmeiro because steroids, but they also wont vote for guys like Raines, Trammell and McGriff who really made their cases before the steroid years. If you penalize Bonds and ManRam, shouldnt you give a bump to guys like Trammell Raines and McGriff?
  6. This has been a depressingly quiet off season for Milwaukee. Dont get me wrong, I dont want them to make moves just for the sake of making moves, but I check the news every morning for something to get me excited about Spring Training and it just hasnt happened for me yet.
  7. Id take express. Was that this year you got it?
  8. Apparently Amazon Prime cant get everything to you in 2 business days. Anyone know where I could buy either the $9.99 Baseball Express version or even the $49.99 full version in a store in Wisconsin? Doesnt look like I could get it guaranteed by Christmas anymore. Im in Oshkosh, specifically. Appleton is usually a good place to look.
  9. Gary Anderson left because he was in over his head and he knew it. One more year of decline and he was going to get canned. Once you get canned it becomes a lot harder to get an Oregon State job without going to coordinator way or to a lesser conference school. He goes to OSU, goes 7-4 every year, and they love him. Go 7-4 here every year and you are done.
  10. Cubs took Taylor Featherston Texas took Deshields Milwaukee Passes
  11. This is a win-win deal for the Brewers long term. If Heyward continues to stall in his progression it will not hurt the Brewers too much. If he breaks out I believe he will test free agency and potentially leave STL anyway.
  12. The Brewers got lucky to dodge the bombs that were Sabathia and Fielder contracts. Even their 3-4 year deals at moderate prices are touch-and-go. Suppan (bad), Lohse (surprisingly good) and Garza (incomplete). The crackdown on PEDs and returned players to pre-PED breakdown levels, early 30s, outside of the very, very top of the spectrum players. I would avoid a contract like this like the plague. Trading for guys like Greinke, Sabathia (Shields in KC) is still a great idea as prospects are still over-valued and your commitment to guys like this are usually 2-3 years at the end of a decent contract and under the age of 30.
  13. As a kid I thought for sure it was slobber, but then again, my 4 year old thinks that Billy Joel's "Only The Good Die Young" is "Only The Good Time Song" so maybe I wasnt hearing it correctly. That video is pretty clear he says the slopper is slopping around.
  14. Re: Mice. Dont use poison. Use traps. With poison they wander off, die and stink up the place. I live in an old house (built 1888) so I always have mice. I cant stop it. But I know where their approximate entry point is into my kitchen. I have two traps in there (the black "tunnel" no-touch traps, reusable) baited with peanut butter. I usually get 1-2 week but since I have done that I have not found any evidence of mice anywhere else in the kitchen or house, so I have been happy with it.
  15. I was hoping for more of a Paul Goldschmidt type, not a Mark Grace type hitter for that spot.
  16. Here is a different idea: Trade him this offseason for 50% salary relief and a young Will Smith-type middle reliever. Think we could get Betances from New York?
  17. They need a LH firstbaseman. Someone like Morneau but he is hurt and likely not available/too expensive.
  18. Id rather we solve the lack of offense problem with allowing amphetamines and PEDs back in to the game.
  19. I love how we gloss over the fact that he DIDNT hit .300 in his first season and just willy-nilly elected him to the hall of fame I didnt even know he was sick. Gosh darn it. Reminds me of my youth in the 80s, there was always this one player who played for that funny team out west who was always really good but you never actually saw him play. That guy was incredible. a really sad day for baseball.
  20. Hat tip to Keith Law for nailing the Brewers prediction. He had info, he applied it. I would rather a reporter report on good info and then comment that he doesnt agree with the thinking than making up what he thinks a team will do and then applauding it.
  21. If this Barlow is making $18,000,000 in the ticket department I sure hope that number buys out some of his arby years.
  22. I am a big Doug Melvin supporter and apologist, but his inability to solve the 1b problem is very irritating. We suffered through a historically bad year at 1b with guys like Halton, Maldanado, Yuni B, Blake Lalli, Alex Gonzalez and Juan Francisco. Lucroy played there some, but removing him from behind the dish makes him far, far less valuable and frankly I see no difference between Maldanado playing 1b or C with Lucroy is also in lineup at he other position. Now we are back facing the EXACT same problems at the EXACT same position the very next year. We have Overbay on the team but he cant even get starts over Lucroy right now. I dont claim to offer solutions, but I think we can all agree that there is a problem that needs to be fixed and it needs to happen soon.
