  1. I generally do not care if the Brewers keep all their players or trade all their players - whichever is fine with me. However, if Melvin truly is looking to trade guys and does not - Lind, Parra, KRod as lesser parts and Gomez, Lucroy or even Braun as larger parts, it would concern me that other teams are getting similar deals done and Melvin cannot close his deals. The Rockies moved 6 years of Tulowitzki and now they might be dumping CarGo. If they can unload CarGo then I wonder why we cant unload Braun. We cannot do things half-way. Tear it all the way down Miami Marlins style, trade them all. I think they would stink for 2015 (duh) and 2016 but I think by 2017 they would be a team on the come. I think this happens faster than fans think, especially post PED testing. This is a young mans game now. Lind, Parra, KRod, Braun, Gomez, Lucroy, Fiers, maybe even Peralta. Ship them out, load up on so many prospects it makes it hard to find a place to play them all. Enough should make it that the team will be young and competitive and rebuild that base we had in 2005. With the freed up salaray relief you supplement with a veteran starter here and a veteran hitter there.
  2. I certainly do not think "anyone" can play 1b, but if the Brewers think he can hack it then it should be explored. Again, Im not assuming he can play it, but if scouts or GMs think he can, then maybe that's where you play him. He is LH so he might be a decent platoon candidate for Davis in LF as well.
  3. Now if the Angels could just add Chase Utley their quest to be eliminated in the first round of the playoffs will be complete.
  4. Orlando's big brother. Stuck in minors for Twins, even though he probably shouldnt be. He seems to be a classic Melvin player. Terrible glove, hits the cover off the ball. I thought he was primed to breakout this year but Twins soured on him for some reason. Im not sure what the Twins might be looking for, but if the Brewers engage them Arcia should be a target in my opinion. Will Smith, K-Rod, Cotts all seem to be options the Twins could consider.
  5. First off, I highly doubt Lucroy is the catcher that Seattle is working on a deal with. If he were, Taijuan Walker would be a great start to any deal, but I would need more to part with Lucroy. I dont know what Seattle has in their system, but I would not look at the Major League Roster for as second player. Any deal surrounding Lucroy and Walker would have to be expanded though to replace Walker in their rotation. Perhaps Lucroy and Garza (retaining some salary) for Walker plus a prospect or two. That makes the most sense.
  6. What he said doesnt bother met at all. He should be traded though, just because he is most likely to be a first baseman for most of his next contract, like Joe Mauer, and is value then takes a huge hit.
  7. So we should set out sights on a Nicky Delmonico type. Less if we can unload garbage like Garza or Lohse.
  8. I know we didnt Draft him, but everything about Jungmann reminds me of Ben Diggins. Hopefully his career is better than that but I am not holding my breath.
  9. I think 2011 was way worse. Many on this forum, including myself wanted the Brewers to take Sonny Gray with one of their two picks. To see that they could have conceivably gone Jose Fernandez at 12 and Sonny Gray at 15 is troublesome to say the least.
  10. I cant get too worked up about this: Prince Fielder: .368 AVG, 70 hits, 10 home runs, 38 RBI, 1.008 OPS: Missed all of last year due to injury, before that was declining. Contact generally isnt a good one. Nelson Cruz: .341 AVG, 18 HR, 38 RBI, .687 SLG, 1.082 OPS, 205 OPS +, 123 total bases. If we had kept him, then I supppose we either dont play Hart or Braun in the late 2000s. Plus he has already gone through TEX, BAL and now on to Seattle. Michael Brantley: .313 AVG, 17 doubles, 4 home runs, 28 RBI, 7/7 stolen bases, .901 OPS. Great player. Would love to have him in LF right now. Would not have made playoffs in 2008 without Sabathia. May not have traded for Gomez. Lorenzo Cain: .293 AVG, 32 runs scored, 19 RBI, 8/10 SB. 2.8 WAR (was leading the AL in WAR as of two days ago). Great Player. Would love to have him in LF right now. Would not have made playoffs in 2011 without Grienke. Between him and Brantley would not have acquired Gomez. Nori Aoki: .322 AVG, 21 runs, 11/15 SB, .813 OPS. Jake Odorizzi: 3-5, 2.31 ERA, 0.965 WHIP, 66 1/3 IP, 53 K, 0.3 HR/9 IP, 2.1 WAR. Chalk it up to having to give to get. Loved that playoff run. Alcides Escobar: .281 AVG, 20 runs scored. 2011 playoff run + Jean Segura. I will take that trade every day of the week. If we keep those players we give up playoffs in 2008 and 2011 and we also dont have Gomez or Segura. I love Melvin, I think it is time for him to move on, but these roster moves are not the reason.
  11. My fantasy baseball team is curious what Craig Counsell thinks.
  12. So who starts at SS now? Gomez, Herrera? Sardinas?
  13. The fact that the trend is to hire former gritty major leaguers as managers, with no experience, is further proof that managers are close to irrelevant in baseball. It wont matter.
  14. I think Ramirez can only be traded to NL Central teams.
  15. lcbj68c - Dont you live in Florida? Maybe Im mistaken or maybe you moved, but for some reason I seem to remember you living in Florida. In that case, hell yeah Id want them to move to Florida too!!
  16. I echo this sentiment and will add a little anecdote as well. My dad was watching one of those games when Cecil Cooper was coaching in the system. He sat about where you did, practically in the dugout. After the game and the players left he shot the bull with Coop while the two of them swept of the sunflower seed shells in the dugout. Pretty neat story. That being said, Maryvale is pretty bad.
  17. Exactly my point. As a matter of fact, it isnt even half as bad as PEDs.
  18. If its a drug relapse (cocaine, alcohol, etc), then yes, from a social perspective that is worse, but from an MLB Disciplinary standpoint, what could possibly be worse than PEDs? Players are frequently promoted to the 40 man roster so as not to be subjected to marijuana testing. Amphetamines? Does MLB do random recreational drug tests?
  19. Anyone remember when football games started at 12:00 noon and then promptly at 3:00 pm CST? It was rare, but on occasion the noon game ran over a bit into the 3:00 game. Now the games are scheduled for noon and either 3:15 or 3:30 and we still have run over. Football games have increased in time by 15-25 minutes in the past 20 years and 90% of the game is just guys standing around on the field. Yet, nobody busts their chops about it like baseball.
  20. Melvin supposedly did everything he could to keep Sabathia and Fielder. Some fans didnt believe he did enough. Thank goodness we arent stuck with them. This is the new-age of baseball, which is really the old-age of baseball. In the 90s and early 2000s players actually got BETTER after the age of 30 with PEDs. In the 70s and 80s it was common place for players to be shells of their former selves after the age of 33. When contracts were being handed out in the late 90s and early 2000s it was never a second thought to give a 29-31 year old Free Agent a 5-8 year deal, because they were using PEDs to keep themselves from breaking down. Now a guy hits 30 and he wants a 5-10 year deal but he might be league average or worse by the time he is 34. In my opinion the increase in value of youth combined with league minimum salaries and team friendly deals that buy out 1-2 years of FA hugely favor small market teams, or at the very least, put small market teams on the same footing as the big spenders, as it allows teams to secure talent from the age of 21-23 up until age 30, after 30 let the Angels pay some one 25 million a year for 10 years and dont look back.
  21. For the record I wasnt talking about Lucroy or Gomez, I meant the next generation of players such as Lucroy and Gomez. You need minimum salary guys to make it balance out with the big guys. The yankees red sox and dodgers can afford to have $5mil bench guys and 6th inning relievers. we cant.
  22. At this point the difference between Papelbon and KRod, in my amateur opinion, is so small that giving up anything of potential value, even a young 4/5 starter (Jungmann) or a future, cost effective reliever (wagner) is not a good idea. We wont be able to afford the Lucroys and Gomez's of the future of we are giving away young, cheap, controllable players that could contribute a fill out a roster. I could see making a move if KRod was not available, but he is and he is most likely available in that 6-7 million dollar range.
  23. I do not see the upgrade from KRod to Papelbon being worth a low-cost, controllable player. Even if Jungmann is nothing but a number 5 starter, that has a lot of value, Id rather keep him - and anyone else such as Devin Williams, etc.
