  1. I'm mostly puzzled about how I had Fox but now I don't. Every other channel has been strong.
  2. Cut the cord. Friend gave me an RCA indoor antenna. Hooked it up, I get ABC Nbc cbs fox, etc. I live in Oshkosh so I pull gb stations. Then about a week ago fox disappears, completely. Can't figure out what is going on. So I sprung for an HD Mohu Leaf Ultimate 50, supposed to be very good. The 50 as in good for 50 miles away. All station antennas are within 40 miles of me. Just hooked it up, I get more channels now. Comet, Cw, etc. still no Fox. I know the supposedly broadcast in some alternative frequency, but I used to get it, for a month or so. I read some conspiracy theories that they turn their signal down to drive viewers to cable. How do I get Fox back?
  3. Radio is still free. Oh yeah!! I stream baseball radio feeds and NHL radio feeds for next to nothing. I tried cutting the cord and piece-mealing local sports and after I ran the numbers it wasnt worth it. It added up to a lot of trouble and close to no savings. I pay $50/mo for internet and that is all I have at my house. I really wanted to have access to Baseball (Brewers) and Hockey (Wild). Set aside the local blackout restrictions that make MLB TV and NHL Game Center worthless for local teams, even if I could buy both and get my local teams I would be looking at, spread over the full year $11 per service, so $22.00. Making my total expenditure $72.00. I could add the basic cable, plus a box, keeping internet for around $87.00 a year. So the $15.00 savings really isnt worth it to miss out on some other cable channels I might actually watch. I dont know who or what I am rooting for.
  4. re: Domingo Santana. I liked what I saw of him last year. I was hoping he would be a starter in the outfield somewhere. Sounds like Stearns (and some on this board) may not be high on him. Maybe if we trade Braun or Lucroy we can throw him in the deal a la Nelson Cruz, who I personally compare Domingo Santana to.
  5. The only problem I see with this trade is that our mentality is that trades are supposed to be somewhat exciting. Ok, we trade a major league 1b and get some prospects back, in AA, AAA, maybe even a rookie. This trade though is three lottery tickets that might mature in 4-5 years if ever. Hard to get excited about it, but that doesnt mean its a bad deal.
  6. I agree with you, for the record, just pointing out how much a non-citizen has to lose if they cannot control their anger. Chances are though, if no charges are filed now, they wont be, unless a Ray Rice video pops up.
  7. If he gets charged and convicted of even domestic battery he could be facing the Slava Voynov treatment. Voynov, a defenseman for the LA Kings was convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence charges. On July 2, 2015, Voynov pleaded no contest to a reduced misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to 90 days in jail. He received three years probation and was ordered to attend counseling. On September 3, Voynov was released from Seal Beach Police Detention Center, where he was being held since July 7. Upon his release he was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, where they held him at an unspecified detention facility to await trial in front of an immigration judge. Voynov was held without bond, which is common when ICE thinks the subject is a danger to the community or flight risk. All of this for a misdemeanor DV conviction, of which I see multiple times a month in my profession - in other words it can be relatively small potatoes, but as a non-citizen it is effectively ending Voynov's career here in the States. If Chapman is charged and immigration treats him the same way he could be headed out of here.
  8. I like this guy a lot. He seems to me to be a real Nelson Cruz type, which is exciting. Physically though, he looks just like WWE Superstar Giant Gonzalez http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/mlb/players/full/31931.png&w=350&h=254 http://mastowc.weebly.com/uploads/1/3/8/3/13839291/1553100.jpg?560
  9. Not new thread-worthy by any means, so it fits in here. Diamonds. What a scam. what a joke. Please, dont ever buy diamonds for your wife, they are worthless almost as soon as you leave the jeweler. Case in point: Im an attorney, a criminal defense attorney primarily, which means my clients are almost always broke. I stupidly did some work for a guy without being paid up front and low and behold when his bill came due he had no money so...he offers his diamond earrings and after deciding that if I didnt take these as payment I would most likely receive nothing at all, agreed to accept them under the condition that they be professionally graded and locally appraised. Both were done to my satisfaction, with certificates to prove authenticity. Appraisal comes back at $9,400.00 retail value, which is close to what he paid for them. A bit of research on my end indicates that wholesale value of diamonds (what retailers pay) is about 1/3 of retail value (did you get that, they are marked up 300%....suckers!!) so I figure that I am going to be completely reasonable when I go to these places and try to move these for between $2,500 and $3,000. Boy was I wrong. Each diamond is 1 full carat, set in platimum (which I guess is pretty nice) I have placed them on craigslist and ebay, numerous times and there is no interest, even at a listing price of 3K and pics of the appraisal and grade - and I wouldnt expect there to be much, who is buying diamonds sight unseen off ebay?). So off the the local jewlers in the Fox Valley and Milwaukee who advertise that they give the most for jewelry, etc. To this point I have been offered a max $875.00 total for the set. That's it, that's all they are worth. Each place I go examines them, confirms that they are what the appraisal says they are, offers me next to nothing. I question them about what the retail price is, and they dont dispute my appraisal. On guy said he would simply put them in his case and list them for close to the appraised value. I ask, why such a low offer then? And each jeweler has said the exact same thing. "we reference the book" and that dictates what we can offer. This last place I asked what they would do with them, keeping in mind that these earrings were sold from a local jeweler as they are just 2 years ago and they told me they would be sold to a third party, tossed into a vat where the platinum/gold/whatever would be melted down and the diamonds would remain on top and then by plucked out and resold to wholesalers. That seemed like a stretch since they were already good enough to be sold in a store as they are. Luckily for me my wife thinks diamonds are a waste of money before we got married, so she literally owns no diamonds, but this has been a huge eye opener for me on what a scam diamonds are. There is no market for them, they are not able to be sold to anyone at all. They are worthless. If you have a $10,000 diamond on your finger, you are kidding yourself. I could find a shiny rock on the shores of Lake Michigan and set it in a ring and claim its a special $2,000.00 diamond and be closer to its actual resale value than the person who has a similar size actual diamond on their finger that they paid $10,000 for. Ok..Rant over.
  10. Is it optimism to point out that the Brewers look like they are in their way to NOT finishing with a top 10 draft pick? Passing teams left and right.
  11. Congrats Dodgers! You've landed both the the last place Phillies old, terrible, overpaid middle infielders. World Series here they come!!
  12. How does Stub Hub work? If they do not resell the tickets can they just cash them in to the Brewers and get tickets for games later in the season? I have checked Stub Hub to try and get seats last minute for a non-sellout game and they never seem to come down as game time approaches. My only assumption is that there is a deal with the team that Stub Hub can cash those tickets out after the fact.
  13. I played back in 2004ish. No time and less interest now, but it was fun back then.
  14. I think it comes down to when do the Brewers plan on competing again. If the Brewers are thinking that this rebuild will take 5 years, then Puig isnt the answer. However, as the game continues to skew toward younger players playing a larger role post-PED testing, I believe if they do it right they can compete after a 3 year rebuild, leaving a 27/28 year old Puig as a cornerstone in 2018/2019 seasons. And I agree about his "antics" who cares, what are we the Cardinals now?
  15. Puig is controllable through 2019 from what I can tell. Only way to get longer control than that is to trade for someone with close to no major league service time - and no guarantee that they can or would produce close to what Puig offers. My sense is that he is wearing out his welcome because he "doesnt play the game the right way" That's fine, I will take a guy who plays the wrong way but has the ability to put up a .900 OPS for the next 4 seasons. Also, if the Brewers continue to tank, which seems likely, a deal like I proposed above might be possible in August as the only player of the 4 I mentioned who would be claimed would be Puig and if the Brewers have the worst record they wouldnt have to worry about any other team claiming him.
  16. The Dodgers make by far the most sense in a Braun trade scenario. They bailed the Red Sox out of the Crawford/Gonzalez/Beckett debacle and it worked out well enough for LA that I dont think they would hesitate to do something like that again. Carl Crawford would have to be something the Brewers might have to agree to take back. He is due 20 million in 2016 and 2017. Fortunately his contract is a wash with Ryan Braun's 2016 and 2017 salary, so a swap based upon those two as a starting point would be financially viable for both teams. Based on those two players alone there really is no reason for the Brewers to make that trade though, so it would need to be expanded to help both teams now and the future. How about an off season trade of: Dodgers trade Carl Crawford (2 years/20 million per year through 2017) and Yasiel Puig (Controlled through 2019 at cost of 9mil in '18, arb eligible in 19) Brewers trade Ryan Baun (20 million per year through 2020) and Matt Garza (12.5 mil through '17) and Brewers retain some of Garza's salary. I keep hearing the Dodgers are ready to move on from Puig for one reason or another, and Garza would fill the Josh Beckett/Carl Crawford role of that 2012 Red Sox Trade, being somewhat serviceable dead money that needs to be taken on to get Braun. Brewers are going to stink in 2015 and 2016. My hope is that they can be team on the rise by 2017 and contend in 2018 and 2019, when Puig is still around and Crawford is off the books.
  17. Just so I am clear on August Waivers. If a player is put on waivers and a team claims them, that player can be pulled back - I get that. But in the same scenario can the Brewers just let him go? I would love to see team put in a claim for Garza and let him go and shed his entire salary.
  18. I believe his name is Zach Davies, not Will Davies
  19. I believe under the new rules a team trading for a player midseason cannot offer that player a QO. If that is the case, and I think it is, then Baltimore would not be offering a deal representative of a rental + QO. Rather, the Brewers would have to assess the Oriole's offer as one that is better than simply retaining and offering Parra a QO. So in other words Baltimore is simply acquiring a rental, they do not also get the option of offering their rental (Parra) and QO and then recovering a comp pick.
  20. I am actually sort of hoping they dont do anything and just try to have another go at it next year. Tender Parra the QO, which he will accept. Sign a middling 3b like David Freese, or better yet an aging SS that couldnt really hit all that well as a SS but we will try him at 3b anyway, how about Sean Rodriguez. Then load up on reject relief pitchers like Manny Parra and Joakim Soria. I like it. Sounds like 83 wins to me!!
  21. Remember when Melvin's theory was to strike early before the market was set? I remember he did that with Damian Miller signing and he got him for what was a relative bargain that off season. Maybe the Brewers should pull a Texas/Cleveland and add players. Im not serious, but thats probably where the value will be in the next 36 hours.
  22. Isnt he LH version of Mark Reynolds? What is he hitting about .210 with 15 HRs this year?
  23. This is what I mean about overplaying your hand. We've seen Zobrist and now Moss go for really good returns. Meanwhile, we are clinging to Parra and Lind like grim death. Can't wait to acquire Yhonathon Barrios 2.0
  24. Melvin is holding out for more.
  25. This really shouldnt be about paying Ramirez and Lohse. Those deals worked out, as LouisEly has shown, this should be about what to do going forward. The nucleus isnt there to reload with another Lohse or Ramirez. Instead we need to tear it down to the studs and rebuild. Too many holes and too many older players to supplement with a few more vet signings.
