  1. I always liked Yost. He was the right man for the time and thought he was far better than most fans gave him credit for. Taking KC to consecutive World Series and winning one with very good but not great teams validated that for me.
  2. The Cardinals have the worst record in the NL and the top three teams in the division are the Pirates, Reds and Brewers. How much fun would it be if the next five or so years the competition in the central would be between those three teams while the Cubs and Cards scraped the bottom?
  3. Barring a major injury that would put next season into jeopardy Burnes and Woodruff will still bring plenty back in a trade. Adames still has time to turn it around. I don't think he was as highly thought of outside the Brewers organization as was inside it so I doubt he's lost a ton of trade value as it is. He had power and defense but always struggled getting on base.
  4. No, just forgetful that he has a full no trade clause and no reason to waive it. For him to waive it would require the Brewers to suck with little to no hope for them to turn it around during the life of the contract.
  5. Nothing to add, I just really like the term playing teams with their tails up. Definitely going to steal that one.
  6. They were coming off a series win against the Pirates before they swept us and have a six game winning streak against teams with a winning record. The old adage "it isn't who you play, it's when you play them" holds true.
  7. I wonder if the shift was at least partially a cause.
  8. I'm not saying facebook algorithms are evil but it forgot to remind me it was my wife's birthday then 17 ads for couches so comfortable you could sleep all night on them popped up.
  9. Not only will we be getting guys back but the usual strain the long season that starts to show up in August will be somewhat mitigated.
  10. I think you might have missed the part where I said it doesn't necessarily mean a non-tender or that even if they didn't keep him he has trade value.
  11. While I agree with the sentiment of Taylor I don't think surgery necessarily means a non-tender. Even if the team doesn't want to pay him he'll have some amount of trade value. He's a good defender who can play anywhere in the outfield, hits well enough to start and profiles as a well above average 4th outfielder. There's a lot to like about him even after surgery. Even if they can't find a trade partner he isn't going to make so much in year one of arbitration to break the bank.
  12. This isn't exactly new music but I really liked Tenacious D's version of Wicked Game by Chris Isaak.
  13. When I heard Al Pacino is expecting a child all I wondered what the kid's first thought will be when he sees his dad for the first time. I think it'll go something like this. AHHHHHH MOM WHAT THE HELL!!!! AHHHH HE'S A RAISIN!!!! AHHH PLEASE TELL ME IT WAS INVITRO!!!!! AHHHHH.
  14. I can't speak for others but I don't think it should be just baseball that closes on Memorial day.
  15. This is kind of what I was getting at in an earlier comment. The reason why people have a hard time knowing the difference is due to how we celebrate it. Frankly I think most people view it more as the kickoff to summer than a solemn day of remembrance. Memorial day should be a day to remember the soldiers who died in wars. I just don't know how playing a game so fans can drink and enjoy themselves does that. Monday should be a day spent in reflection lasting far longer than a moment of silence while wearing red, white and blue then drinking beer and eating brats.
  16. Most of us have been trying to.
  17. Voit might have done better given more ab's but that wasn't going to happen. His job was to manage to produce with sporadic playing time. He didn't appear capable of that. We found someone who profiles better at the job that was available and cut him to make room. That's what happens to fringe players.
  18. On any other holiday I'd agree. Given the purpose of memorial day I don't think any team should play. Monday should be more a more solemn day. There's plenty of time for fun and sun on Saturday and Sunday.
  19. I wonder if they forgot to get one of those tags like you need for a mattress or refrigerator for garbage pickup.
  20. There's a pretty significant difference between .270/.309/.418 and .306/.388/.510. Let him play in AA for at least half the season then promote him to AAA if warranted and play out the season there. I want Chourio's years in the majors to be the best he can offer over wasting a year or so learning on the fly.
  21. Coming into work this morning and the street in front of the shop was blocked off. No problem park a couple blocks away and walk. Get closer and there's a squad car blocking the road. I ask if it's ok to get to the store, he asks if I work there, I say yes and he says no. I ask how long he says he doesn't know. He then asked for my number and said he'd call when all was clear and he did. Still don't know what the hell happened but I thought it was cool of him to go the extra mile to take my number then call when all was clear.
  22. While I wasn't in the group counting them out I wouldn't be so quick to say I told you so. They played a pretty hard schedule early and their record showed it. They're playing a soft part of their schedule now and it shows. Since the Cards went on hot their streak they've gone 11-3 to get all the way up to a 21-27 record. During that streak the two good teams they've played in that stretch, the Brewers and Dodgers, are both teams dealing with significant injuries to their pitching staffs. That bit of luck does help them in the long run but if their performance against good teams not dealing with a rash if injuries is any indication they'll need a lot more luck to catch up. The Cards are not as bad as they started out but they also are not a good as the last 15 games might suggest either.
  23. The draft helps teams rebuilding and allows players careers to move forward. That's a good thing all around. I don't think it wasn't meant for teams in the Brewers situation. That said, if it's supposed to help the player blocked from a 40 man roster spot it seems like they should adjust the rules so the player can move forward with their careers in the best possible situation. I can't help but think being moved to a team that doesn't have 40 better options than you does that. Perhaps it's time to dump the mandatory full season and go with a set number of days they need to be on the major league roster.
  24. Considering the goal was to let him work things out in the bullpen we couldn't have picked a better start in that role to get him on the right path.
