  1. Considering this is the first time Arnold has been in charge I'm not sure how relevant what they've done in the past is.
  2. Getting Justin Wilson and Woodruff back is like getting an all star starter and veteran lefty reliever for free which means less need to overspend on offense. Speaking of offense, there are several players who've under performed but have enough of a track record to think they'll turn it around. Most notably Urias and Adames. I wouldn't mind at all if they keep the farm intact. I really don't really want them to trade anyone of note just for a stop gap player.
  3. Who knew all we needed was to play against better teams?
  4. There is a far better chance the Brewers get on a hot streak than the Cards. The Brewers have been the most injury riddled team in the division, are still above .500 and are starting to get healthy. Not only did they ride the injury wave and play better baseball than the Cards during that time but they're returning players are going to be fresh during the dog days of August. As far as the prospect capital to greatly improve their roster goes: if they had that much prospect capital why haven't they used it to improve the team before it got this bad? If their close to the majors talent was any good they'd be on the roster. If their best players are further away it'd take more players to get anyone decent and they'd be trading their future on the hopes a hot streak and four teams collapsing ahead of them. I don't see that happening. If it does all the better as it's probably going to be too little too late either way.
  5. I always liked Yost. He was the right man for the time and thought he was far better than most fans gave him credit for. Taking KC to consecutive World Series and winning one with very good but not great teams validated that for me.
  6. The Cardinals have the worst record in the NL and the top three teams in the division are the Pirates, Reds and Brewers. How much fun would it be if the next five or so years the competition in the central would be between those three teams while the Cubs and Cards scraped the bottom?
  7. No, just forgetful that he has a full no trade clause and no reason to waive it. For him to waive it would require the Brewers to suck with little to no hope for them to turn it around during the life of the contract.
  8. Nothing to add, I just really like the term playing teams with their tails up. Definitely going to steal that one.
  9. They were coming off a series win against the Pirates before they swept us and have a six game winning streak against teams with a winning record. The old adage "it isn't who you play, it's when you play them" holds true.
  10. I'm not saying facebook algorithms are evil but it forgot to remind me it was my wife's birthday then 17 ads for couches so comfortable you could sleep all night on them popped up.
  11. Not only will we be getting guys back but the usual strain the long season that starts to show up in August will be somewhat mitigated.
  12. I think you might have missed the part where I said it doesn't necessarily mean a non-tender or that even if they didn't keep him he has trade value.
  13. While I agree with the sentiment of Taylor I don't think surgery necessarily means a non-tender. Even if the team doesn't want to pay him he'll have some amount of trade value. He's a good defender who can play anywhere in the outfield, hits well enough to start and profiles as a well above average 4th outfielder. There's a lot to like about him even after surgery. Even if they can't find a trade partner he isn't going to make so much in year one of arbitration to break the bank.
  14. This isn't exactly new music but I really liked Tenacious D's version of Wicked Game by Chris Isaak.
  15. When I heard Al Pacino is expecting a child all I wondered what the kid's first thought will be when he sees his dad for the first time. I think it'll go something like this. AHHHHHH MOM WHAT THE HELL!!!! AHHHH HE'S A RAISIN!!!! AHHH PLEASE TELL ME IT WAS INVITRO!!!!! AHHHHH.
  16. Most of us have been trying to.
  17. There's a pretty significant difference between .270/.309/.418 and .306/.388/.510. Let him play in AA for at least half the season then promote him to AAA if warranted and play out the season there. I want Chourio's years in the majors to be the best he can offer over wasting a year or so learning on the fly.
  18. Coming into work this morning and the street in front of the shop was blocked off. No problem park a couple blocks away and walk. Get closer and there's a squad car blocking the road. I ask if it's ok to get to the store, he asks if I work there, I say yes and he says no. I ask how long he says he doesn't know. He then asked for my number and said he'd call when all was clear and he did. Still don't know what the hell happened but I thought it was cool of him to go the extra mile to take my number then call when all was clear.
  19. I wasn't sure if you meant you have no clue what they're doing or if you think they don't have a clue what they're doing. Then I realized both are probably right.
  20. Right now the central is the only division in the NL that has three teams .500 or above.
  21. I just noticed Drew Rasmussen was put on the 60 day DL due to a flexor strain. If he needs surgery it'd be his third. IIRC the Brewers decided to convert to to a relief role because he had two already. When I heard the Rays put him in the rotation I thought that might come back to haunt them. I guess it is. Pity, dude is a stud.
  22. I think a player who plays through injuries like Winker has requires time to get over the phantom effect. It's not as easy to get over it as simply once the pain is gone everything automatically goes back to normal. For some the mechanical adjustments made to get through it gets imprinted and it takes time to readjust. For others it takes time to get used to not feeling pain. All in all, give it another month and lets see where he's at.
  23. When people use CE and BCE instead of BC and AD. It doesn't change anything. It's the same dates and based off the same thing.
  24. Is two rookies struggling in their first month in the majors more shocking? I'd say a DH OPSing only about ten point highers than two elite defenders is a bigger concern now. I also think there's a replacement that is more likely to do better than Winker's overall production than Turang at the moment. Huira isn't the answer but he hit better than Winker last season and appears likely at this moment to be better now. I'm not advocating that mind you. I think we let things go for May and reassess then. I'm just saying if a move is to be made now to win now Huira is a better bet than someone like Toro.
