The way I see it is we went into the season knowing there are questions in both health and quality in the rotation. That's why the team made sure there are multiple alternatives and a lot of relievers who can go multiple innings. It isn't time to panic and deviate from that plan now. Use the depth and rely on the bullpen as planned. The way this team is built it doesn't need another ace (though it would be nice). It needs another Colin Rae.

I seriously doubt that. His legal issues are not only well behind him but they also turned out to be nothing. I think what's keeping him from a job is the fact he was, by all accounts, a grade A jerk and clubhouse cancer combined with probably not being the same pitcher he was when he last had a MLB job. Teams will put up with a lot when you're one of the best. See Barry Bonds for example. When you're no longer elite, not so much. See Barry Bonds for example.

We ran into the same situation last season at about the same time. We ended up trotting out scrap heap players just to have a warm body to fill get by. The only difference is last season we were relying on the starters more than we planned to this season. It was the same front office that managed to find adequate replacements for them that have to find the pitchers this season. They did a good job of adding relievers who can go multiple innings and adding pitching depth in the upper minors and have one of the top farm systems to work with. Maybe let it play out for a while before declaring the naysayers were right.

Wouldn't that require them to have planned on a sudden injury when they sent Koening down. I just don't buy into the line of thinking the team sends someone down with the thought that they can just DL a starting pitcher with a fake injury if they need him sooner than ten days. To be clear I think there are times teams stash players on the DL but I don't think this is one of them. It's usually done for players that the team wants to keep but can't be sent down. It also means Hall can't play for a while which isn't ideal for a young pitcher learning how to deal with starting in the majors.

I only ever played fallout 4. They do have a sense of humor but I think the show did it better. I think part of it is actual actors can get the humor across easier than a game can.

I liked Doug Melvin and thought he was partially responsible for the quick turnaround. By not leaving the cupboards bare and a functioning front office in place it gave Stearns the ability to focus on other things. My only real complain is he didn't value defense nearly as much as he should have. Either that or he had no idea of what to look for.

I think there's more of a sense of humor to the shows than the game. Like theBruce mentioned, the atmosphere and style is spot on. The show certainly isn't dependent on knowing the game to be entertaining.

I watched the first Fallout episode. It did not disappoint. I think video game movies are what comic book movies used to be.

If there is a silver lining it's that he wasn't going to be the every day catcher here next season anyway. I'd rather see him as the every day catcher his first full season instead of a backup for one or two. He'll still have an entire season in the minors to get his arm and head right. Maybe he'll even learn how to slide without injuring himself.

The NL central is the only division where all the teams have a winning record. All the others have at least two teams with losing records.

FIP was never meant to tell the whole story. I think there's a legitimate argument that it's overvalued though. Or, more accurately, it doesn't have the same value for every team. The value of a high K, low walk pitcher with the Brewers defense isn't nearly as high as it is for the Nationals.

Silly question, how often does the replacement level get updated? By definition it's based on stats accumulated by freely available talent but that changes year to year.

The only thing I think WAR is good for is offense. It's hard to quantify the value of defense compared to offense. It's value is also somewhat dependent of the type of pitcher as well.

Being short has it's advantages. I'd only have fallen 5'7".

No to any contracts right now unless it's team friendly and doesn't have a no trade clause. We have one of the better minor league catching prospects in baseball and limited resources. The best route to continued success is versatility. Locking ourselves into long term contracts or no trade clauses hampers more than it helps.

I think it's more when you're allowed to defer money to avoid luxury taxes like the Dodgers do it really doesn't matter.

Not sure what this had to do with my comment but I agree wholeheartedly. The only point I was making was illegal gambling has little to do with MLB's connection to legal gambling. Gambling on it's own will not effect the integrity of the sport. The problem comes when someone owes money to "Vinny Da Fish" and can't pay.

I'm not singling you out for this but I think those who don't see the difference between legal in illegal betting are missing a key factor. Illegal gambling is done by people who proved they have no problem breaking the rules. Legal gambling is done by people who have a vested interest in not breaking the rules. Corporations looking to capitalize on legal gambling don't want to kill the golden goose. They're not going to be trying to rig outcomes. Organized crime, not so much.

2065 years ago Julius Caesar was assassinated. Condolences to his surviving family and friends. I also question how appropriate it was for King Features Syndicate to hire Brutus in their Popeye The Sailor Man tv series. I get giving someone a second chance but isn't making a fortune as a TV villain a mere 1105 years later rubbing salt in the wound?

Best possible outcome, the Brewers bullpen doesn't miss a beat. That would allow the Brewers to pick the best option of trading Williams or keep him for the stretch run depending on which path they feel boosts the stretch run the most. Worst possible outcome, the bullpen flounders, the brewers are out of it by the trade deadline and Williams doesn't have enough time to show he's healthy limiting his trade value.
